I’m surprised how many are attracted to this. When Fitbit offered premium services with live coaches etc for their devices, plenty around these forums derided the idea. “Who would pay a subscription?”

I don’t think this will be that compelling ultimately; within a few days 99% of the videos will be on YouTube and people will be able to follow along (without any Apple device) and those that do end up paying will soon realise it‘s $10 a month to see your watch stats on your TV.

It gives people the hope that they will get fit and look ripped. Apple gladly takes $10 for providing that hope. But the whole fitness business is like this, secondary and tertiary additions in form of supplements, clothes etc is what makes money.

Does anyone have experience with these kind of apps? How do these videos stack up against the Youtubers? I can see the expensive equipment and setup in the pictures here, but are the classes as interesting/fun/good as with the less well staffed (but passionate) Youtubers?

I don’t think there’s anything out there quite like this that will seamlessly sync a training watch with your screen which is why I am excited.

One of Apple’s comments was that you don’t need expensive equipment just some dumbbells if that.

My only concern is the same as you, will these trainers be good or too annoying.

I personally do not see the need at all for there to be a group of trainers/people on screen and I bet that this is a key reason the service is not launching now.

Ultimately, you can have all the tech you like, but it’s the trainer you come back to.

Really wish an Apple Watch wasn't required. This is the kind of service I'd actually use and would love to follow the workouts on my own without the tracking and watch integration. Hope Apple rethinks the forced watch integration.
S3 is just $200 (and the used one will be cheaper).

Take my money, seriously, this with the watch and an iPad, I won't need the gym. 80% of getting fit / Staying fit is having some form of motivation to do it, this is all I need.

Obviously do what works best for you, but you've just called out $1400+ worth of kit and an ongoing $79 sub to use to aid motivation. I personally am done with any kind of gym and subscription. I have wasted thousands of pounds over the years, sweating indoors and being bored with my own thoughts. I bought a treadmill which whilst well used, never gave me the mental separation from home, the me time. Whilst running I would find myself staring at a ceiling that needed painting, a garden that needed weeding etc...

Being outside is for me, so much better mentally. I find it really gets the feel goods going - way better than indoor exercise ever did for me. Regardless of weather. Now I just use the Nike Run Club app for running and Strava for cycling. With a HRM I can monitor my progress and improvements, challenging me against me. I get that going out isn't always possible / suitable, but if you can I personally think it is far superior. It's also way cheaper.

Also, if workouts are more your thing I would recommend looking into the Insanity workout, I really found that fun and beneficial.

You can have an iPad and Watch for $750, many like me have that kit anyway so another $79 in place of a much more expensive gym membership is not really more cost. More importantly, if you have an Apple Watch, you at least have an iPhone so already you have all that is needed without further investment.

I agree, I run on a regular basis as well but I want more than just going for a run. We all have different reasons, motivational needs and so on.

Whichever way you look at it, this is a service from Apple which has more positives than negatives for a change.

Subscriptions are just wrong in principle. It is no different to: "you recently bought an Apple Watch. Want to track your workouts? We require $9.99 per month. Want to to track your heart rate? You need to pay $9.99 per month."

These services (including Fitness+) should be what you get for free when you buy an Apple Watch. It's a bit like charging you monthly to use the air-con in your car.

This service will be dead in 2 years max. No one will use it, and there won't be any new workouts. It's just like music teachers in garage band.

Why doesn’t Apple roll out Fitness+ in more countries? What’s holding them back?

Yeah, they'd have to dub each video, but is something they're already doing with TV+ content and it is easier for a workout, there is no acting and I guess is only one person doing all the talk even if you see multiple people on screen.
I wouldn't pay $10 for it, but I'd be fine with the top tier bundle. Anyway, there isn't even News+ here so I guess I'd have to wait for it first, then maybe they'll launch Fitness+ and the bundle

Which sucks to be honest... I don't need / want them to dub each video. I don't live in an English speaking country, yet I speak English like 80% of the time. Everything I own is set to English.

I just hope you can change your region to be able to use it before it launches outside of English speaking countries.

I wish Apple really explores the dancing workouts!!! I would love to learn Michael Jackson’s choreography and many more! I am 27 by the way haha!

The king... Still not a single person - living or dead - that has come close to the perfection of his moves!

Why are all those Fitness+ trainers always smiling when they are doing a workout? When i'm working out my facial expression is like this

This isn’t for people who need to go out and buy all the equipment. This is for anyone with an Apple Watch who will most likely have access to an iPhone at least or a TV with Apple TV app.

It can be used for training anywhere. iPhone propped up outside or in a park.

You shouldn’t compare it to actually having to go out and buy a Peloton for which the bike and screen is needed and can only be used at home.

Is the very limited number of Countries where this service will be available at launch date linked to the fact that most likely the coaches will be English speaking only?

Who cares, please extend this worldwide!

Additional languages will be welcomed but don’t wait for them!
I agree. If anyone don't understand english then simply don't subscribe. In the meantime I'll use nike training club which is free and in english

I hope they create a workout series to follow similar to something like P90X.

Agreed. Adhoc exercises are aplenty out there on youtube. You get into a habit, and get results only from a structured program. I have had tremendous experience with Tony Horton and Shaun T workouts. I do like the idea of the whole AW integration with workouts... but really, it will be the quality and structure of programs that will determine how good the service will be. I also hope that they don't get sucked into shorter-workouts-are-better mindset.

You can get a $200 exercise/spin bike on Amazon now. This could well be a Peloton killer.

All this is doing is making me question the value of Peloton and iFit without providing alternative equipment.

While I also question the value of a Peloton over other alternatives, it struck me more as a prestige itemm even though it has some neat features. The pandemic has been a boon for Peloton.

You can do that without a subscription as well. My wife tracks her steps with the watch, it integrates with our scale; all without a susbcription.

It's more like if you want us to monitor your car and location, turn on the air when you get close; track your car's service needs, etc., you will need a subscription. car manufacturers are already doing that, look at MB's mBrace offering for example. The a/c still works but none of the mBrace features do without a subscription.

Even better, checkout craigslist or or something similar and pickup a lightly used (i.e.e I bought it, used it for a month and now it is taking up space) one dirt cheap. I got a real nice bike for $75 and a treadmill for "just haul it away..."

As I said, Peloton is more of a luxury purchase than anything else; you can get better bikes for less or the same but they aren't a "Peloton."

The weird thing is why it took them so long to launch this service as it’s such an obvious fit for the watch.

I can only assume that Apple had a target of x amount of active users for watch 3 and above and they think they’re going to hit this later in the year (with the SE which seem to be the one to get).

I want Fitness+, but not sure I can sell my fiancée on it. She would be all about it if it didn’t require an Apple Watch. I have always loved Apple Watch whereas she has no desire to own one. This would exclude her from doing workouts, which instantly and substantially reduces the value of this service in our home.
