I’m curious why this wouldn’t work with a  Series 2 watch that is on WatchOS 7?
I’d hate to purchase a new watch just to use Fitness +
Any thoughts?
I don't think the series 2 is getting WatchOS 7.

watchOS7 is for Series 3 and later. Series2 won't be getting it.

This x's a thousand. Just about anyone remotely somewhat serious about fitness, isn't going to use this....just about anyone who would use this will used it a couple months and quit.

This thing is dead on arrival.

This service will be dead in 2 years max. No one will use it, and there won't be any new workouts. It's just like music teachers in garage band.

Which sucks to be honest... I don't need / want them to dub each video.

I know, right?? I live in a German speaking country but have all my devices set to English too, including my Apple TV and iTunes (Apple Movie) store, everything. Yet Apple still manages to show me movie trailers in dubbed German, which totally sucks, completely ruins the experience. On top, for my girlfriend, who doesn't speak German, movie trailers are completely incomprehensible.

I guess if Apple had even ONE office in a non-English speaking country they would know the problem, but since they seem to all sit in the same city (San Francisco?) they probably don't even know such problems exist...

I think they should offer an on screen data option like Peloton and forget the mandatory Apple Watch. I would have tried them out to replace Peloton, but now I will not for probably another year. I have my own Polar HRM that works just fine. I get they are going for a premium experience, and to sell more watches; but it’s going to exclude a lot of potential subscribers, and ultimately reduce revenue for them.

I'm using Fitbod right now and the best thing about it is being able to tell it what equipment you have and your workout goals, and it builds routines around that. If Apple Fitness+ can do that, then I'll very likely switch because it would be great to have some videos and better integration with Apple Watch workout data. Fitbod syncs the exercise data after you finish the workout, and it would be better if it synced the data in real time.

I'm also hoping that their strength workouts aren't too similar to HIIT. I'd like some more traditional strength training workouts too like pull-ups, pushups, dumbbell curls, squats, deadlifts, benchpress. Things like that. I guess we'll see!

The article mentions you can choose your own music. Are you sure this isn’t a filter to select workouts that are to the music you like, rather than “dub” over it with your own?

Also, big question here is for HIIt, strength, cycling, yoga. How will these stack up to Peleton app. What is the real differentiator besides seeing my Apple Watch on the screen. Will any classes be live? Will the classesbe any good, will the instructors be PG13 weirdos? Lots of questions and people have options

As someone who doesn’t live in the countries listed for this, I wonder if there’s a workaround, like setting a different country in my phone’s setting. Unfortunately, this sounds like it’s going to go by the country on your Apple ID.

Will Fitness+ take input from additional sensors? I have a polar heart rate monitor I usually use in addition to my Apple Watch while I row.
Same question.

Wrist heart rate sensors don't give accurate readings when lifting weights, because of blood restrictions in the arm.
It can go as far as being a good 30-50% off according to my experience.

If I buy a third-party chest sensor, would it replace the heart rate displayed on the screen?

Obviously do what works best for you, but you've just called out $1400+ worth of kit and an ongoing $79 sub to use to aid motivation. I personally am done with any kind of gym and subscription. I have wasted thousands of pounds over the years, sweating indoors and being bored with my own thoughts. I bought a treadmill which whilst well used, never gave me the mental separation from home, the me time. Whilst running I would find myself staring at a ceiling that needed painting, a garden that needed weeding etc...

Being outside is for me, so much better mentally. I find it really gets the feel goods going - way better than indoor exercise ever did for me. Regardless of weather. Now I just use the Nike Run Club app for running and Strava for cycling. With a HRM I can monitor my progress and improvements, challenging me against me. I get that going out isn't always possible / suitable, but if you can I personally think it is far superior. It's also way cheaper.

Also, if workouts are more your thing I would recommend looking into the Insanity workout, I really found that fun and beneficial.

Variety is key. This is great for winter months and during a pandemic when gyms are closed.

You mean like Germany?

... and expanding their presence:

What stinks is will this only work with ATV hardware but not with the App on another SmarTV?

Already poaching instructors from the competitors

I hope so. Get the folks over at Fitness Blender. Heck, they should be recruiting all of the popular fitness YouTubers. Make a FitnessTwitch service and help them get paid. 99% of their market is their personality and you will never make people happy with only a dozen trainers.

I still wake up saying 'German potato soup'.

So Apple forgot a Mac version?! Why not allow a Mac instead of an Apple TV? Could be useful at companies or a quick workout in the home office...

Gonna go out on a limb here, but I'd guess an AppleTV connected to a TV in the livingroom is a much more common scenario than television-connected macs.

This is the wrong fitness+ in my opinion. They really should improve the health app to add further fitness tracking metrics. The only benefit of this seems to be apple watch integration which is great but it also strips out a lot of useful stats I would look at. I like my peloton but I also like see output, cadence, distance, etc. When I lift weights I want to track the exercise, weight and reps. Apple software doesn't track or recognise any of these metrics. I don't really need a fitness app that doesn't tell me anything else other than how many calories I burned.

That's generally the problem with this, it's designed for people who aren't fit and probably don't like fitness. Actual people who do regularly work out will probably prefer their other alternatives which give them much more feedback and ability to track progress. I'm not even excited about a lot of the Gymkit equipment, again I don't care how many calories I have so if you aren't syncing the reps, the output, or other basic metrics in some exercises, the apple watch isn't great for actual fitness activity without third party apps like Peloton.

This is basically a knockoff of the $10 peloton subscription with apple watch integration. I'm sure it will do fine but it would be nice if apple had some support for people who regularly work out. You should be able to at minimum track things like exercises, reps, weight for strength training, instead of just calories (who lifts to burn calories?), or output and cadence for cycling.

Why would the Mac need to be connected to a television? It has a screen of its own to display content on. It also seems like an oversight to me that there isn’t a fitness app on the Mac to track data and to launch fitness+ from. My home office is the only place I’d use fitness+ as I don’t want to monopolize the living room, or have to subject my roommate to me sweating profusely in front of him. For people on the go with MacBooks but no iPad, it would also provide a bigger screen than the iPhone.

Let’s remember to quote you (the expert) in 12 months time when Apple publish their figures.

Subscriptions are just wrong in principle. It is no different to: "you recently bought an Apple Watch. Want to track your workouts? We require $9.99 per month. Want to to track your heart rate? You need to pay $9.99 per month."

These services (including Fitness+) should be what you get for free when you buy an Apple Watch. It's a bit like charging you monthly to use the air-con in your car.

I think differentiator here is the "content". You don't need to subscribe to this service if you want to track your workouts and body metrics. If you want to watch a video that was produced to help you work out, that's a different story. Your analogy is similar to buying a TV and expecting a Netflix like on-demand video service to come free with it.

Another vote for elliptical.
Any of you, have a recommendation of which one to buy n y? Preferably under 2.5k. Planning on getting a concept 2 rower when they become available in November but will like to add an elliptical too. Thanks for any suggestions!

I hope it has the option of no music at all. I like to ride my stationary bike at night while I watch tv. I could see myself putting a workout on my phone with one earbud turned low just to hear any instructions.

My biggest remaining questions:
- Multiple user support. Letting two people seamlessly do a group exercise together would be a big plus.
- How often are new classes, and do you have access to all past classes? For example, if someone does a treadmill or yoga workout everyday, is the release cadence fast enough that they’re always seeing new content?
- Will this work on the Apple TV app that’s been filtering out to recent TV sets, or will it require AirPlay streaming from an iOS device?

I’m generally pretty excited about the service and can’t wait to try it out.

edit: It'd also be nice if there was an option to display the workout overlay on top of any playing video (or any app, really) when there's an active workout being tracked on the Watch. Lots of people watch TV/movies on their workout machines
