I love going to my local Apple Store as much as I hate it with the fury of explosive diarrhea. If the store is busy, it's a completely Fuster CLuck!! While the stores are laid out in a logical way to let people view Apple products, there is often a LOT of confusion about where to go to actually purchase something. Need help from the Genius desk? You'd better have made an appointment two days prior, because otherwise you're screwed. NO one will talk with you about any problems without an appointment. There are no lines or queue's for checking out or Genius desk, and what happens if you want to pay in cash? There is a practical meltdown by employees.

The photo attached to the original article pretty much sums up every visit I've had to the Apple store in the past few years, and it's incredibly frustrating. The least they could do is have a bit of logical organization for entering the store, viewing product, checking out (buying) and leaving. Every Apple store I've been in had absolutely HORRIBLE flow.

Apple can hire me for $1 a year and I'll make things right!

So much for "it just works".

The device works. The problem is with the user.

And before you say "Apple users must be idiots then" just remember that MOST of the population is technically inept.

I'm GLAD Apple offers training for their products.

I always get suprised at how clueless some customers next to me are whenever I am at the genius bar getting something repaired. So it doesn't surprise me that they've served this many customers

My comment was meant in humor, but the reality is, a device that "just works" shouldn't require a training course to operate.

It's a pretty sad view of society when my 2 1/2 year old can figure out how to navigate and use apps on an iPhone yet many adults can't figure out how to make a simple phone call on one.
You should see my little Grace on an iPad... she is a master! :p

Hmm...I wonder how Apple knows how many people visit their stores?

Usually they have sensors in the front that count how many people enter and exit the store. It also helps them keep track of how many people come in vs how many people buy things.

I dont understand why people say so many good things about apple store support. I went to my local store in Canada, and their support was actually pretty bad, even purchasing something in the store was a bad experience. Is it because I have a little of trouble speaking? they were very rude.

That guy needs to use deodorant.

How do you know he did not? Deodorant does not stop perspiration. It just makes it not stink. Anti-perspirants do stop perspiration but they are bad for you and can cause cancer by trapping toxins inside your body.

.
This is amazing, is truly amazing. So many visits! But has anyone ever had "Genius" be able to fix something?? They just replace with refurb or send to someone else to fix.

I guess should not expect more from minimum wage, but still, why do they get credit not the fixer?

:apple:

i agree. a few weeks ago my brand spanking new macbook pro 13 i7 died on me after i plugged a usb device in. i knew it was the logic board. i told the guy at the genius bar that it was the logic board. he told me they would replace the magsafe connector because the charging light was fading. but i explained it charged fine before and it wasn't a power issue. so he said he would have the tech look at the logic board.

when i got my macbook back it started up fine then again a usb device killed. i went back to the apple store yet again. this time they just said they would give me a new one because it didn't make any sense in replacing the logic board because it was new.

i don't mind getting a new one. however i hadnt backed up anything yet because it was new and i had quit a bit of things on it.

why couldn't they just repair it instead of giving me a new one?

Deodarant doesnt stop you from sweating
Antiperspirant does. But it's bad for your pores.

but great for your social life

I would think the number would be far greater than 50,000 per day. Has anyone been to the 5th ave apple store? That place has to see AT LEAST 1000 a day itself. San Francisco's Union Square is also super busy. I wonder if there are some stores that don't see that many. I'm in the Cleveland area and the three stores around here are ALWAYS backed up. I've never had an appointment on time.

Customer Service?

Now only if Apple (or at least our local) Stores knew how to train their employees to be more knowledgeable, then Apple would actually have a place to go for their customers to get help rather than a place to buy. I work at a Apple Re-seller / Specialist store and I had a customer today who came from our local Apple store and was told that she could buy Snow Leopard from us if she wanted it or she could just buy Mountain Lion and install that. Well... I think if you work at an Apple store you should know Snow Leopard was pulled from Stores a long time ago and that the Apple Store website stopped selling them when Mountain Lion came out. On top of all of this, the customer has an original MacBook which cannot install Mountain Lion. Its also necessary to note that you have to install Snow Leopard in order to get Lion or Mountain Lion. We actually see things like this alot. The wrong information or the unwillingness to help the customers ends them up at our store searching for help. I'm wondering if this kind of "Customer Service" is found at everyone's local apple store? I hope this is not the case because I would like to think that they spend as much time on the grooming of their employees as they do their image...which I believe are one in the same.

I see a fair amount of them

in the process of transferring data from a PC to a Mac. I wonder how many of those types of appointments are done on a yearly basis.

It's funny when someone drags in their PC to have the data moved to a Mac.
It's even funnier to over hear sales guys being told they want a Mac to replace their PC, I've heard some people basically tell them that they'll do anything to get rid of their PC.

Yeah, I think the Apple Genius' should get a pay increase and so should their sales staff once they get training and experience. I'm all for taking care of the feet on the street.

I don't know how to take the 50k Genius number. Good or Bad?

Since I switched to Apple/Mac when the Mini came out, I had to visit the Genius Bar 5-7, all because of Hardware issues. I love Apple and their Customer Service is amazing but they need to start putting more focus on Quality > Quantity (Sales).

I owned 3 BlackBerry, 5 Androids and 3 iPhones. The only problems I had was with :apple: , all three (3GS, 4 & 4S).

Only macrumors members could take a comment like mine and turn it into some serious issue.

I dont care if he did or didnt use deodorant, or an antiperspirant, or if it causes cancer or anything else. You were supposed to take the comment with a grain of salt and get a laugh out of it.

Most products are fixed on site by geniuses in the workrooms. Plus, it's not really minimum wage, at least at the store I worked in, and it just makes more sense time-wise to replace the device when the issue is more serious than a shattered backplate.

300m? That's 300/7000 = 4.3% of the world population.

This, together with their market capitalization... I see a big ass bubble.
