apple isn't rolling in the cash thanks to their employees.. they're rolling in cash due to the execs and a small handful of employees..

the people who are apple employees could just as likely be starbucks employees.. and like apple, starbucks isn't rolling in the cash due to these people.

i'm not trying to discount or downtalk the importance of a solid workforce.. just trying to put some perspective on it regarding "the company is rolling in cash thanks to their employees".

----

it's a gift... gifts don't have to be hundreds or thousands of dollars to be sincere or appreciated.

if you're expecting a bigger present or a cash sum from a company at xmas then i'm pretty sure you should either A) move way up in the chain / play a more important role.. B) don't work for apple retail (or any retail for that matter).

idk, i'm kinda under the impression that the people claiming 'apple is out of touch' regarding this are ,in fact, out-of-touch themselves ;)

So, the execs are not employees.
The company exists because ALL of the employees, not just because of a few execs.

Where I work we get a bonus if we make a decent profit, ALL people get exactly the same, whether you are the director or working on the work floor.

Explanation from Angela - for the less heavenly textually gifted:

You are here to enrich lives (=> but when it comes to getting absurdly rich, it's all about me)
To help dreamers become doers (=> while I dream, you'll have lots to do)
to help passion expand human potential (running like crazy to achieve my job which may take a 100.000 years)
to do the best work of our lives (I've actually never done anything else and have a single life, so why expect me to have something else for you)

We give more than we take (well, you giveth and I haveth to take)
From the planet (which we have to milk to feed ourselves)
to the person beside us (ditto)
We become a place to belong (better not walk out before I ask you)
where everyone is welcome (especially customers, as the rest is fixed cost)
Everyone (as long as we keep margins intact)

We draw strength from our differences (that's why you just can't reach my salary level)
From background and perspective (tomorrow being the same as today)
to collaboration and debate (anything but my compensation)
We are open (except for internal issues - in fact we're the most secretive company in the world)

We redefine expectations (especially your targets)
First for ourselves, then for the world (in that sequence)
Because we're a little crazy (in fact we're lunatic moneymakers)
Because "good enough" isn't (we're insatiable, except when it comes to base salaries)
Because what we do says who we are (leaving out what doesn't fit the Christmas idea)

We find courage (whereas everybody here has enough reason to slap my face)
To try and to fail (oh please wear something less ugly when entering our AppleStore)
to learn and to grow (sorry, T-shirt had to be obese-proof)
to figure out what's next (same T-shirt next year, design may be different)
to imagine the unimaginable (e.g. you collected all designs over the years)
to do it all over again tomorrow (then we will start the same design cycle over again)

...so wear something less ugly when entering our AppleStore

What you just described, in so many words and probably took you hours of preparation, is what capitalism is all about. This does not only concern apple.
So keep bashing apple and stay ignorant.

No. Capitalism is about making products that customers will want and buy vs. other economic systems where customers can't afford nice products or have few choices because the state-only or state condoned manufacturer system reduces the need to innovate and compete.

Apple has always charged sky-high prices for its products, but it also use to product products that enticed you to pay such a price. That really isn't true anymore. I still buy mostly Apple but I don't upgrade like I use to because the innovation even between multiple generations is minimal. During the Jobs II era I upgraded regularly. I just sold my 4 year old MBP for the new one just because I'd never had a 4 year old Mac before and wanted to sell before it lost all value, not because the new MBP is fantastic. It's OK.

Some of the Apple bashing here is knee-jerk. But a lot of it comes from Apple fans like me who are sorely disappointed about this directionless, money-grabbing focused Apple. Everything in Apple's "new" creed is sampled from old Jobs era ads. But it's empty words -- that's why it had to be put to paper or they'd forget.

MR should consider an age restriction.
It's sad, what used to be a forum for tech literate, is now playground for spoiled "brats".
Apple should consider a minimum credential level in their decisions - which would clean up the atmosphere

This site will become that again...once Apple decides to start really innovating with technology again on a large scale. Right now, they're pulling OS updates and delaying new product launches. Not much for the techie crowd to get excited about.
Nope. No more techie the way we understood in the past.

This site will be sold to / taken over by Apple one day when the MR owners discover that "the Mac" will be EOL'd and superseded by the AR-iWear Pro on iOS 13. A wearable, port-less, wireless charging, triple authentication (iris, fingerprint & voice), self-updating set of goggles projecting a virtual full-vision-circle HUD. Taking input from brainwaves, eye-movement, voice and hand gestures.

/s

Just kidding, it won't be Apple obsoleting the Mac but some other company.
1984-2021 RIP Mac.

I enjoyed working for Apple as a tech, but corporate IT rewards hard work with lunches, gift cards and restricted stock options - not a throw-away T-shirt.

Seriously. I got a $25 butterball gift card for a few years, but those stopped like 5 ago.

People bashing this apparently have never been a part of corporate America. It's not like a startup where everyone gets huge checks and champagne every year. You're kinda lucky to have the job to begin with and if not, you are so replaceable it's not even funny.

But most posters here are probably in middle/high school. One day folks, you will understand.
Talking about Apple 2016 employees in here, not Kodak or Blackberry. That's the sad part

Look what just landed in my email

As a school teacher, I know what a great end of year work present looks like.

This shirt I would expect from a student who does not like me and is only giving it as his/her parents are making them do so.

It would be taken in good grace, taken home and put in the garage as a good rag that would be used when changing the oil in the car.

A totally boring grey t-shirt and a white piece of paper with corporate credo. Holy ****.
If they gave nothing to the employees it would be better than that.

I wish Cook was given that instead of all his bonuses and stocks.

Um, if you are crapping on this nice little positive t-shirt you've probably gotta get some help. Damn, you are some sad people.
Its the equivalent of getting socks for a present, the kind of gift with no thought

I'm sure Apple didn't have to do anything. Not that it matters anyway.
If they'd given employees a $1000 cash bonus people on here would say why didnt they give them $5000
No they wouldn't
