That matters why? Do you question and complain to your friends and loved ones if their gifts to you don't fit according to their income?

Too many people in the world that don't understand what a gift is and have false impressions on how they think they HAVE to be treated. Nobody owes you anything, not a Christmas bonus, not a t shirt, not a gift card. Apple employees accepted employment where they did and unless it is stated in a contract, they are guaranteed nothing more than their salary and basic employment rights. There are millions of people in the world that are unemployed, recently laid off, homeless, and so on yet people think they deserve extra because they did the work they agreed to do when accepting a job. Be thankful to be earning an income and even more thankful if you are lucky enough to receive any type of added bonuses.

You have some good points, but... Let's say I went to a restaurant and the bill was $500, but I tipped $5? Is that ok? There are no rules at the restaurant that say how much I should be tipping. It would just be a crummy thing to do.

There are no rules that say Apple should give employees XYZ, but giving a preachy credo card and a a t-shirt are pretty corny.

If you can't give a classy gift, then don't give one at all. A cheesy gift is worse than no gift. MacBooks for all employees, I say!

Wow, what a compliment. :/

yup, considering they're 3000 quid :p

btw, random fact of the day: did you know that diamonds aren't all that rare, but though they're not that expensive for retailers to buy, they're rarely released into shops - it's a marketing strategy so it doesn't seem so odd for them to be so pricey!

They don't.

Can't you understand? Apple Retail employees mean absolutely nothing to Apple Corporate. It's not even that retail employees get a cheap shirt, it's that they're also given a placard used to continue their brainwashing. There is no bonus for retail employees, nor do they make any commission.

I know. I worked there for eight, crushing years.

Wow, so this really sucks!... They paying Angela Ahrendts 26 million dollars!!!. 231 billion in the bank - give them something for the holidays.

And what does that have to do with bonuses and other compensation that employees receive?

Nauseating, meaningless, patronising corporate ******** of the very worst kind. How utterly soul-destroying for the staff.

If this was given out at a different company, your cynical take would probably be accurate. But people work at Apple because they actually believe in the credo's premise, and AFAIK so do the executives. Just look at Tim Cook's disgust and horror during the Trump meeting. That credo is now a clarion call given recent political events.

better than I got: a pink slip.
I'm sad and sorry to hear that. We have had numerous friends get that this year as the company my husband used to work for shed the last of its subsidiaries right before the holidays. His was shed last Christmas, too, but fortunately to a company that kept his crew intact. He's trying to bring a few of them aboard where he works now but it's not easy. I wish you all the best in finding a new and better job.

I've known it for years, they're just damaged coal you can cut glass with, but DeBeers convinced people otherwise.

Try telling that to a women. I can almost guarantee you it won't go well, and if you mention she's been influenced by marketing, well, you're on your own.

People believe this?

I liked Apple better when their goal was just to make Insanely Great products.

The fact that Apple seems directionless and uninspired now has as much to do with the backlash against the company in this thread as the perception that the gifts are cheap tokens.

And BOOM, someone is always there sticking up for Apple, no matter how much of a double bag they have been!!!! CAN this company literally do no wrong in the eyes of some folk!
Sometimes people have a point. Not everything is just us or them, as the saying goes.

It's a very creepy mantra Gabe. I mean even if it wasn't a holiday gift it's creepy to print and hand that out to any employee but to act like it's some kind of gift?
Quite common in the corporate world. Seems like plenty of people just don't know that or feign not knowing that so that they could try to spin into something that it isn't.

A company holiday gift has nothing to do with holiday or other bonuses or any other compensation. So many people confuse and mix those things (either on purpose or not)--one isn't related to the other.
And as I mentioned earlier, to give this tripe is extremely insulting. Giving the company motto is like people in North Korea having to put pictures of the Kim family on every wall and having to wear lapel pins with their pictures on them.
