So much hate over Apple giving gifts they aren't even obligated to give. Chill out people.
To be fair. I think the negativity is rooted in the mix of fantasy and reality of every working stiff.

We aspire to work at a great company. So when you think of a dream job like working for one of the most successful and most profitable companies on the planet then you imagine them being rewarded with something satisfying. But what do they get? A paintball shirt and a bunch of inspiration words that only an elementary school would frame.

You know that any executive would be disappointed in this "bonus" so why should a lowly worker be doing cartwheels over it?

Amazing the company is rolling in cash thanks to their employees. Jeez, the company's employee credo and a t shirt? They are getting very open with their greed and arrogance. You think Jony is excited about his new t shirt? No, probably his six digit bonus is a tad nicer.

Jony Ive, 6-digit bonus? Oh wow. He's not some overworked middle aged banker. Apple go to lengths to make sure nobody even knows what his actual salary is. A 'bonus' for Jony Ive is in the very high 7 figure range, dwarfed by his actual salary.

A quick calculation on their net profits, this $2 dollar t-shirt is the equivalent of McDonalds handing out a free Big Mac to be shared amongst a team of 10 staff members.

That cheap champagne and potato chips served at our yearly New Years party suddenly became plain daft decadence.

Employees are waiting for the release of Christmas OS 2.0. Mr. Ive is busy counting his money.

Unfortunately it's only available as a "one size fits all".

Employees who weigh more than 100 pounds are provided with a membership to Weight Watchers. Any employee who doesn't fit in the Apple Shirt by January 1st, will be terminated.

hmm.. yes, i am.. and you must be smart i take it?

there are literally millions of people who could work for apple..
and maybe a hundred who could run it.

idk, i feel like i'm just pointing out the obvious.. probably ill communication on my part then.

There are not millions of people that could work for Apple. The industry is totally scarce of talent in this area.

Might be true for the Apple Store employees, but talent retention / acquisition is a big priority for Apple. Only the best engineers work there , people who could get a job at another company comparable to Apple in a minute. Why do you think programmers just quit to found a startup, knowing they can rejoin in two years if they'd like to ? Why you think Google gives its engineers free time so they can work on private projects ?

....and it's still more than I get from my company!

I'm sure if you raised it with your company , they will be quick to point out that they would happily buy everyone 2 t-shirts and double sided printed page if they had the finances of Apple. :)
[doublepost=1481958968][/doublepost]This is advertising , hey you work in retail, here is a t-shirt to advertise how many cool locations we have....

Jeez they are skimping on everything these days. A result of not innovating anymore and therefore still trying to maintain the profits , but raising prices and penny pinching . Remember people sales are down but profits are maintained. This is Tim cooks apple.

I'm sure the Apple store employees would prefer a cash bonus instead of a $2 t-shirt.

I'm sure most employees would prefer some form of cash bonus. However, a bonus is just that, something extra that one is not entitled to. Apple has definitely given better gifts in the past and I am sure hundreds of other businesses have given better gifts this year, but at the end of the day, this is just something extra.

People complaining that it is a billion dollar company and saying this is a cheap gift, blah blah blah, are ridiculous. It is a Christmas gift. Whether it is a $5 gift card or a $5,000 check, it is a gift. Be thankful if you get anything and go on with your life. Just another sign of the entitlement of so many people in the world today.

Thats nice of you. Do you also give them thousands of dollars a year in stock in the company? How about retirement plans? How about giving them an extra $500 every few years to help buy a computer? Get them a nice discount on their cell phone bill? Pay tuition reimbursement for education? Pay full benefits even for part timers? Health, Dental and Vision? Life insurance? Give 8 weeks paid time off when they have a kid? How about extra paid vacation days every year, "just because"? How about discounts for in home care for sick family members that may be terminally ill? Or even paid days off to help take care of a sick family member? Maybe you buy lunch and food for them during holidays so they don't have to spend their money on lunch? Gym reimbursement so they can stay healthy? Free flu shots? Get the picture...I can keep going. I guarantee working for you is nowhere near as rewarding as working fro Apple Retail.

You do realise that what you mentioned is standard for most large companies and retail pays very little. Good chance the other poster actually pays more. Spend an hour in an Apple Store , and see what those staff have to do, and decide if you consider that rewarding . I could not do it

I'm going to be honest, this is a horrible gift. Which I understand, Apple doesn't have to do anything for that matter. But the shirt is ugly and screams cheap. A shirt doesn't seem like a practical gift to me from a company Christmas gift.

dude, you're talking about apple employees who receive monetary bonuses..

or do you think, to a senior software engineer, apple is like "here's your tshirt buddy, thanks for the effort this year" ?
or, do you think apple would give this person, say, $5000 xmas bonus? or both?

---

and for whatever reason, you're trying to twist it into me saying the coffee shop girls and software engineers are interchangeable skills.

idk.. go back an reread what i said, exactly.. because you're skewing it all up

Everybody seems to be focusing on the amount of money these shirts cost. Whatever ever happened to the notion "it's the thought that counts"?

I think people that belittle this gift are really lacking the spirit of Christmas in their hearts. Merry Christmas everybody and God bless you.

Can't pay the rent and feed the kids with that. Appleland really is a very long way away.

Corporate BS at its worst. I had a misfortune of working for a company that gave employees BS bonuses instead of cash. Trust me Apple. People prefer cash. Especially if they know that the company is making $ thanks to their work.

Every December, Apple provides its retail employees around the world with a special holiday gift to thank them for their contributions to the company and to celebrate the holiday season.

For 2016, Apple is giving each employee a T-shirt and a printed copy of the company's credo. The t-shirt is gray in color and features two circles created from what appears to be a list of all of the company's retail locations around the world.

The credo is printed on a heavy card stock and comes in a protective envelope. Apple first introduced its new six-paragraph credo in August of 2016.

Apple's employee gift this year is somewhat less impressive than the gifts that have been handed out in past years. In 2015, employees were given a set of black and red urBeats headphones from the Beats by Dr. Dre product lineup and a nine-month Apple Music subscription.

In 2014, employees received an Apple-branded Incase backpack, and gifts in the years before that have included things like blankets, water bottles, hoodies, free apps, discounted iTunes gift cards, and more.

apple isn't rolling in the cash thanks to their employees.. they're rolling in cash due to the execs and a small handful of employees..

the people who are apple employees could just as likely be starbucks employees.. and like apple, starbucks isn't rolling in the cash due to these people.

i'm not trying to discount or downtalk the importance of a solid workforce.. just trying to put some perspective on it regarding "the company is rolling in cash thanks to their employees".

----

it's a gift... gifts don't have to be hundreds or thousands of dollars to be sincere or appreciated.

if you're expecting a bigger present or a cash sum from a company at xmas then i'm pretty sure you should either A) move way up in the chain / play a more important role.. B) don't work for apple retail (or any retail for that matter).

idk, i'm kinda under the impression that the people claiming 'apple is out of touch' regarding this are ,in fact, out-of-touch themselves ;)

IKEA is handing out money, £1,200 regardless if you're mopping the floor or an exec. In Denmark they handout 130% of your monthly salary. The Lego company gave you a months salary.

http://www.mirror.co.uk/money/ikea-giving-staff-1200-bonus-9396124

"All staff will receive the same amount, irrespective of job title or current salary. Part-time will be covered too - and will receive bonuses that match up with the hours they have worked.

"We want to be an amazing place to work, where people are happy, thrive and want to stay," explained Ikea's human relations manager Karin Bergman."

Guess you have to work for a socialist company instead of one giving one exec another jet plane.
