Now all the teens will be wanting to buy the watch because some old half dead billionaire dude is wearing one.

I don't know which is more hideous, the watch or that glove. Actually... it's the watch. Definitely the watch is more hideous.

No, you're right, the teens won't buy it because Lagerfled is wearing one. But they just might buy it if the sexy boys and girls in Chanel ( lagerfeld is still the artistic head of the company ) commercials are wearing one.

This guy is a fashion designer?! He looks like he got dressed in the dark.

I'm disappointed in Apple for the way they are marketing "Watch" - Steve Jobs is definitely rolling in his grave. I don't want to know about the super rich receiving Free gold watches - Yes, I'm jealous - but then again, I'm much more handsome than Lagerfeld who needs gold to distract people away from his ugly.
Apple is much more than celebrities, and they never needed them before - Apple can deliver a product all on it's own unless there is something completely wrong with "Watch".
Dear Apple,
You need the billions of little people - the rich only make up less than 1% of the world's population and they only need one "Watch".
I'm sorry, but this is the first time Apple has struck me wrong.

LOL bitter much?

God, these are brutally ugly. Little utility, ugly, and expensive, sweet jeebus. How did these ever get made???? I just don't understand.

Yawn. Beautifully designed, lots of uses, beautiful, Great value in a lot of cases, sweet, I'll buy one just to puss you off. The got made because you get so angry about it. Of course you don't understand it's not for you. THAT IS ALL, so back in your box.

Ugh.

New product whose utility function is still up for significant debate.

The next new product Apple comes out with must be of the impact of the iPhone. After this announcement, and the release of a product that so many view as somewhat unnecessary, the pressure is on to deliver something that will appeal to the masses. Otherwise, Apple should be viewed as a company that is trying to manipulate loyal customers for the purpose of more profit.

The next one has to be a home run, because I have a feeling this one is not the next "thing." They will sell, at least in the beginning, because all Apple products do.. But sales will still be disappointing.

Anyone else find it odd, by the way, that a company whose motto seemed to be to "think different," which included an advertisement containing the likes of Albert Einstein and Bob Dylan is now releasing a product in a way that is entirely symmetrical with mainstream commercialism so prevelant these days? Overpriced designer fashion houses? Vogue magazine? Gold watches, iPhones, MacBooks? All symbols of the "elite."

I don't get any of it, except the continued chase of the almighty dollar.. Maybe.

...Pretty sure that's just you.

Pretty cool that all these wealthy celebrities are being given expensive watches only they would be able to afford in the first place, I guess.

Rich people give very expensive gifts to each other, that's all. Since this guy got a gold Apple Watch with gold link bracelet from Apple, he'll likely give Jony or Tim a very expensive gift later on down the road. Gifts! :D

This guy is a fashion designer?! He looks like he got dressed in the dark.

The way he dresses has nothing to do with his job as a fashion designer. You might think that way but it isn't true. He designs for women's. He makes women beautiful. If you see the details of the dresses he sent down the runway, you will know why he's one of the most powerful fashion designers in the world.

The people in this forum needs to stop judging. Some of you sound like a housewife who has nothing to do but to bash people for no valid reason whatsoever. And what for? To see yourself worth a little more in your head? :(

The really rich ones who actually can afford and not think even once (let alone twice) about buying super expensive bags and watches and whatnot and getting new ones every month or two if not more often...they will certainly be buying it all. Their friends will then want to buy it as well. And friends of those friends will want to buy it then too. And so on and so forth.

And there's that too.

I have to admit Apple is really pushing on this product. More than any other device I've seen them sell over the past few decades.

The way they've got celebrities to wear this watch, invited all those fashion people to the launch and actually had them turn up, them doing one off pieces like this.

No one else has done this with their watches. Not Motorola, LG or Samsung. And it shows how Apple really thought it through. This product is not being marketed as a computerised watch. It's being sold more as fashion accessory like any other nicely designed watch.

It's incredibly savvy what they are doing and although I don't intend to purchase one I am really impressed by just how much of the fashion media they've sold on this product.

Some (if not many) people, especially those in the tech field or with tech interests, don't know much and/or don't care much about fashion, so it's not surprising. It's much like someone typical from the fashion world commenting on the technical specs and features of the device.

Watches are somewhat different products compared to computers, phones, music players, and similar devices. They existed long ago and were and still are just as much fashion accessories as they are functional devices for many. Marketing and sales need to be adjusted accordingly, which Apple certainly seems to be doing (and many others haven't really been).

You guys are not getting it. They're ( the lagerfeld and wintours of this world) not getting the watches because Apple thinks people will want an aWatch once they see old daddy Karl wearing one, but because those people , during a photo shoot, might decide that , among other accesories, an aWatch might look good on that half naked girl wearing nothing but a transparent new dress from " fill in your favorite haute-couture brand ".
Then , double spread ads in your favorite magazine, with said girl wearing nothing but said dress from *** and an aWatch might just influence a whole lot of people in turn...

Who would think we would be discussing fashion in a tech forum ? :D

Good for Karl. Now his wrist can express things as ridiculous and atrocious as his mouth.

The only people who pay him any attention are the easily impressed twits of the fashion world.

That Apple would spend the time and money to make him a custom gold gift anything is not something to be proud of.

But it still gave you the need to post on this thread
You know there's two types of Apple users, some people buy an Apple product because it suits their needs. Some buy anything with the Apple sticker on it, go figure.

So they give a watch away..... For free.
Apparently giving away stuff to people who can more than afford it is the way to make money.

Now you know.

To someone that would essentially be advertising it just by having it and using it and being seen with it and using it in their work. Seems like a rather good business strategy that has worked in many different markets for many different products for many years.
