Betcha Apple is watching what's been happening at Starbucks and Amazon closely...hence the improvements to pay and benefits for its existing retail workforce.

6 sick days yikes. 10+ would be nice.
Recent changes give Apple’s part-time retail workers 6 sick days and their full-time retail employees 12 days a year. That‘s above average for much of the US workforce. I believe it’s accrued throughout the year and can roll over year to year.

Apple is giving many of its U.S. retail employees raises ranging from two percent to 10 percent depending on location, reports Bloomberg. Salespeople, Genius Bar support staff, and some senior hourly workers are being granted pay increases.

Apple is said to be boosting the pay of its retail employees because of inflation, the difficult labor market, and staff complaints about working conditions amid the pandemic.

Pay increases were announced earlier this week during store briefings and individual meetings with employees, according to Bloomberg. Most of those receiving raises are employees who have worked at the company before 2020, and not all employees will be receiving a pay boost.

Not all stores have yet been notified of Apple's plans, but the raises are set to take effect starting in February and are separate from annual raises that are provided in October. Bloomberg spoke to two Apple employees who received a pay increase, with a salesperson receiving an extra $3 per hour to put them at $25 per hour, and a worker who handles repairs now receiving $24 per hour after a $3 per hour raise.

In addition to raises, Apple this week also told employees that it is introducing improved benefits. Apple now offers 12 paid sick days, up from six, and those days can be used for mental health leave, illnesses, or taking family members to the doctor.

The company also changed when employees are eligible for an increase in the number of vacation days they receive annually. Previously, Apple offered additional vacation days after five years of employment, but now additional vacation days are provided after three years. Part time employees are also now eligible for vacation days and up to six weeks of paid parental leave.

I hope amazon gets on this. The most you can make in the warehouse is $21

LOL some are only getting 2% from a company making hundreds of billions. Meanwhile basic foods have all gone up massively around the country. I saw a used Honda Civic selling for just under $40K. When I was in high school those were the junk cars that kids with hardly any money would drive. Everything is so crazy right now.
Totally agree! Successful companies like Apple, Microsoft, Google, Tesla, Meta, etc., and wealthy individuals like Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, they should all distribute money evenly to the whole human kind!

When I worked for Apple retail 12 (Yikes!) years ago, I started at $15.50/hr. Rent for a decent 1 bedroom apartment I split with my girlfriend was $1,250ish per month, or 80 hours of work. Those same decent apartments are now $2,450ish per month, or 102 hours of work at $24. So take that as you will.

Going from $21 to $24 is a nice little increase, more like 14%. I'd be really disappointed if I was on the 2% end, and as far as retail goes, it sounds like it's better than most places in the US. I wonder if workers get insurance.

I'm sure Apple's not doing this out of generosity; it's not their thing, but I wonder what spurred it. There have been plenty of complaints and walk-out threats. The market is getting a lot more competitive.

Whatever the case, it would be nice to see Apple employees unionize. It would probably help the people on the 2% end!
Yes they get insurance! Part time workers have insurance too!

Pretty high… a doctors salary in maaaaaany countries. that’s why iPhones are so expensive.

Close many of the retails stores FFS!

I don't know who is stupid enough to walk into an apple store to buy an apple computer when you can do it online at a discount these days and/or shop at Costco w/membership or a best buy, micro center and walk out cheaper than any of them sold at a retail apple store.

Much overhead would be saved as well if they shut down a bunch of them.

edit: the last time I was in one of these jammed packed stores it took longer for me to walk out with an online edu discounted order as well than if I were to buy at a best buy!

Are these considered good employee benefits in the US? 12 sick days, six weeks parental leave and part time staff “now” entitled to annual leave? Man, it must suck to have a job in America.

So you're basing your opinion of every job in America on how one company pays/treats its retail workers? Just ignorant. This type of attitude is so prevalent online and it's obvious anyone who parrots it simply doesn't have a good grasp of the global labor market and how the US fits into that.

2% pay bump in the face of 7% inflation is a pay cut.

At least some were well above 2% (article stated 2% to 10%) and the examples given were actually more like 14%. Plus, the raises were apparently in addition to whatever the annual raises were.

Inflation right now is 7% (actually 7.5% in January) but for 2021 overall it was 4.7%. Time will tell where things go in 2022.

I worked for Apple retail for over two years. In that time I had exactly one Saturday off. And I was told if I asked for Sundays off for religious reasons I would be fired.

Note that the purpose of my message is just to say that while the pay may be better than Walmart or Target, it's still retail. So don't quit your day job to go work for an Apple Store. You're still working retail at the end of it. (Though the discount was, or maybe still is - pretty good).

aahhh, nice
what percentage of mac owners with fixable problems in an  store walk out with a non-needed new computer?
these Pinocchios deserve every penny  manipulates!

oh those security issues.....
I walked in with an iMac and walked out without anything and I received a receipt.

I was recycling. ?
