I've worked directly for Apple, the pay is pretty good but its also based on a COLA scale. Apple retail employees in Kansas will likely get paid less than New York or California, but its significantly higher than other retail companies.

Edited to add: I also worked for one of their third-party vendors and it was...less impressive. Much less impressive.

As someone who worked in an ER this entire pandemic and had vacation time taken away and received no stimulus check or hazard pay, I say good on Apple for giving bonuses. Clearly a privilege that not everyone gets to receive.

Maybe its because they will get it so taxed almost 40% will be gone. There's always a catch...just like the last "bonus" $2500 in RESTRICTED stock that takes 3 years to vest....ask the employees what its like to see half your RSU's disappear the same day in taxes.......it blow!!!! Another case of unless your eon the inside you really have no business commenting, or defending the company......The make record profits the last 18-20 months all thanks to the retail staff...$1000 is a joke compared to the billions the company made....Ask employees about their mental health the last 24 or so months....and the stresses that have been working for Apple retail and I promise you 99% will agree $1000 is a joke
calm down and please don't tell me whether i have business commenting on a forum thread.

all retail employees get paid for their services, this isn't slave labor. everyone's mental health is not what it was 24 or so months ago, and i highly doubt that apple employees are at the bottom of this food chain.

it's a bonus, nothing more. those employees who are offended by this "joke" can refuse it, i suppose.

p.s. read the post above this one.

No, it’s not slave labor. It’s indentured servitude. Last I heard it was near impossible to get promoted from retail to corporate. Apple doesn’t want retail employees poisoning the spaceship.

Not that I disagree with you, but the real payoff working at the apple store wasn’t occasional bonuses, but rather ESPP… I still hold the stock from when I worked there 10+ years ago and it’s now worth more than my entire income from working there for 3+ years… as a Genius making something like $22/hr with decent benefits…

Did you not get a stimulus because you made too much money? Not trying to sound like a jerk just curious if it was bc of something else I dont know about

They’re paid laughable amounts of money for their work. That discount doesn’t really help much on a discounted salary. Very ironic LOL
what are you talking about? read some of the wage posts here — i don't think that's laughable for the type of work they do. i've honestly never seen a suffering apple employee. in fact most of them seem to really like their job. must be the koolaid...

They should pay more but a lot of folks just build their resume working there a couple years then get good jobs in IT.

ok, could you please give me 3 large companies, where it's common practice to move into corporate from "field"?
It’s not a question of common. It’s that they don’t actively recruit their employees but they use promotions to lure people into retail.

But since you asked I know for a fact that Delta, VZW, and P&G recruit from within.

What's an average retail salary?
I think another question is what should an average retail salary be?

For those saying Apple isn't doing enough, what value do you place on low-skill, entry-level work? I understand the buzzword of 'living wage' but if I agree to a wage during my interview isn't that on me? If I don't have skills or higher qualifications, what makes me deserve more money? I wanted to work for Apple for a while with my strong interest, but at the end of the day is retail the money maker for the business?
