And destroyed the netbook market.

As far as tablets go, I'm really coming around to kindle for books. Yes I like the ipad for all it does but I put the kindle in another category. The kindle is easier on the eyes and if you just want to read books, it is cheaper.

As far as the software goes, I put the kindle app on my iphone and use that. The ibooks feature is limited in that it can only be used on the iOS. If I buy a kindle book I can read it on the laptop or other devices.

This is no knock on the ipad. The ipad can do much more than just the books. But I think for the price, many avid readers might pick up a kindle for most of their reading even if they own an ipad.

I used to have all the Kindle models there are. All replaced with a single iPad. But yes, the Kindle is a nice product for someone who just wants to read and is not interested in anything else.

No. That's another internet myth, arising from reporters quoting out of context. Jobs did not say the iPad idea existed first. He said that a demo on a tablet first gave him the idea for the iPhone UI.
Seriously? You're going to argue these sentences are so different as to label the concept a "myth"? I'm trying to figure out what your dictionary says after the following:
"first"
"myth"

Of course this won't drastically lower Apple's share because both of those devices saw limited marketing compared to the iPad

Ah, there it is again (just like kdarling). Theory: Apple only sells lots of stuff because of their marketing, not because their products are better.

Sadly this nugget doesn't get any more true with time.

Though I'm sure if Dell would run some decent ads they'd sell billions of Streaks.

This "category" was made to essentially not count the Windows Tablet PCs. Read the article, they framed the market so that the iPad would fit and a few other Android based tablets from Archos and the Nokia Maemo stuff.

So that is why Apple got 87% market share, because they cut out all the other players basically.

2011 will be the real test, when the players like RIM, Dell, HP get into the market with Android 3.0 and other offerings that are competitive, we'll see if Apple is able to maintain their iron grip. As it stands, Archos and Nokia were not promoting their offerings at all, compared to Apple that was marketing the crap out of the iPad.

The iPad 2 is already more advanced than ANY Windows/ Android based company will be able to produce.

You are forgetting Apple made this market what is today within 6 months of a 10 year existence.

They deserve much more credit than you give them.

I meant the iPad numbers.

I didn't think those were released.

Turns out the real numbers, according to Apple, are around 7.3 million iPads over the last quarter. That's even higher than the estimates by Gartner and IDC.
