Nobody wants Android... But they'll take it if that's all they can get.

that is the single most retarded comment on this website or almost all of the Internet.

i suppose the 2 million people that signed up on XDA dont want android either even though HALF the forum is dedicated to just android phones

what about the 700 000 members on modaco? i guess they all hate their phones, some of these people spend thousands a month on phones just to program for them and mod them.

however, please enlighten me, show me some factual proof, im all ears, if there are numbers backing up your statement then i will stand corrected,

EDIT: xda has 3 million, not 2

oh BTW for those who dont think android is open? this picture alone says it all

i know alot of iphone and ipad users wish they could install apps from other sources (the entire reason why cydia exists)

This kind of post was nice before iPads were for sale, but at a certain point you just have to stop and say "Well, since so many people love their iPad, clearly the fact that I don't get it is my problem."

You can't keep pretending that the iPad is useless. I know many people who get a lot of use out of them. That's not my opinion, it's a simple fact. Pretending those people don't exist just makes you look silly.

Just because millions of people own one, that doesnt mean anything. Millions of people own/owned a chia pet too (me included lol).

I honestly don't know anyone with an android phone (or if they have one I've never seen it). Its pretty obvious if someone has an iPhone or a BB but I've never seen anyone playing on an android and people don't talk about them either.

iPhone was named the 2nd most recognisable brand above :apple: recently by a very influential uk marketing company.

Then you clearly don't know many people, or at least many people who get phones other than what their network throws at them come upgrade time.

Good for Apple, well done... Your point is what?

I see people with iPhones if they have loads of money

Odd, in these parts an iPhone costs exactly the same as a comparable Android model.

See iPod touch and iPad for equally competitive pricing.

The tired old "Apple makes overpriced toys" chestnut just doesn't work in the mobile device world.

but I see more people with Android phones, because they want more choice and openness.

"Choice" as in fewer available apps and lower quality apps? Good for them. There are pros and cons with every choice. I find the available of apps and higher quality of the iOS platform to be a superior "choice" then the ability to apply themes to my mobile OS and easily obtain pirated software. To each his own.

Then you clearly don't know many people, or at least many people who get phones other than what their network throws at them come upgrade time.

I think you just described Android perfectly. They get the iPhone substitute their carrier provides, or they get those freebie deals. "Buy a decent Android phone, get this crappy Android phone FREE!"

Good for Apple, well done... Your point is what?

The Android astroturfing around here (and everywhere else on the Web - "ANDROID FTW! ZOMG!!!!") grows tiresome. Seriously. Go get your Android phone and enjoy it. Don't be surprised that many people here on MacRumors disagree with your assessments.

Really, now?

iPhone 3GS = £420
HTC Desire = £380

iPhone 3GS specs = 800MHz processor underclocked to 600MHz, 256MB RAM.
HTC Desire specs = 1GHz Snapdragon, 576MB RAM

Huh. Well, let's look at the latest offerings from both companies.

iPhone 4 = £500 (16GB model)
HTC Desire HD = £470

iPhone 4 specs = underclocked 1GHz A4 (it runs at 800MHz, right?), 512MB RAM
HTC Desire HD specs = latest generation 1GHz Snapdragon, 768MB RAM

Who gives you a better deal?

The quality of the apps is fine, who's the one falling for myths now?

As for the pirated apps thing... You act like it's actually a challenge to crack iOS apps.

I think you just described Android perfectly. They get the iPhone substitute their carrier provides, or they get those freebie deals. "Buy a decent Android phone, get this crappy Android phone FREE!"

Or maybe they don't want to pay stupidly high prices for a bloody phone? The prices for iPhones increase every single year. They'll be running at £1,000 soon.

The Android astroturfing around here (and everywhere else on the Web - "ANDROID FTW! ZOMG!!!!") grows tiresome.

Same can be said of the iPhone fanboys, my friend.

See my quote where I said "in these parts." In the US, $199 is the magical price point that applies to equivalent smartphones, whether iOS, Android, RIM, Palm or WP7.

Rubbish. Read virtually any review for any app that is available for both platforms. The Android version is almost always reviewed as being inferior in features, interface, or both.

I don't frequent Android forums singing the praises of iOS. Yet visit any tech-agnostic site, or MacRumors itself, and behold the fervent evangelizing of the Android gospel and the denigration of the iOS crowd.

TweetDeck is better on Android than iOS, though I'll admit the official Twitter app ain't. I'd like to see a source for your claim that most apps are better on iOS though.

Happens on all communities. And I never evangelised Android, I said that people chose to use it, that's all.

Thanks for inadvertently making a point for me: iPhone = 1 carrier. Android = 4 carriers. Android's lead is actually a little embarrassing (for Google) when you consider they have 4x the carriers selling their stuff (not to mention all the BOGO deals).

I'd like to see a source for your claim that most apps are better on iOS though.

Feel free to do your own research. See Facebook for starters. There are plenty of others.

BS, you can get unlocked iPhones in the US. They'll be imported, sure, but they're the same phone.

Well, some of these look quite nice, and many let you do things Apple won't allow.

What do unlocked phones have to do with anything? How many US consumers are going to pay the full, unsubsidized price for an iPhone that isn't even officially supported on their network? .001%?

Point is, if someone in the US really wanted an iPhone on another network, they could go and do it. But as you just said, no one's gonna bother.

If that other network just happens to be T-Mobile (the 4th largest of the top 4). Sprint and Verizon are CDMA. There is no CDMA iPhone.

Unlocked iPhones are insignificant enough in number to be irrelevant to U.S. iOS vs. Android market share.

On that note, there are enough rumours to suggest there will be a CDMA iPhone soon, so let's just see what happens at that point.

As I've already said, though, here in the UK, the iPhone's on the same networks as the Android phones, and they sell plenty of the green robots.

They don't sell the green robots. They sell phones made by HTC, Motorola, Samsung... and all the others.
