Most people doubt very much that Macs are overpriced.

Actually, the vast majority of people decide NOT to buy a Mac, but instead, they buy something else. For every one person who buys a Mac, at least 9 people decide that the Mac is a poor choice.

Not all of them reject the Mac because they are overpriced, but to say that "most people" doubt they are overpriced does not take into account that nearly every single computer buyer on the planet rejects the Mac.

Oh, great. More negative news to bring the stock price down some more tomorrow... regardless of if the info is accurate or not.

Oh boy, this is just going to ruin their stock even further.

I say good. Nothing better for consumers than Cook and the Board getting a good kick in the arse. Nice wake-up call.

But no worries… Al Gore will fix it.

Everyone waiting for Haswell Macbooks.
Only a handful of people even know what that is much less care about it. No, it's simply the overpriced nature of Apple products these days. And if the carriers wouldn't let people pay monthly for their iPhones… even those wouldn't be selling.

Why would anyone go to Best Buy to buy a Macintosh?

Because then they get the warranties and policies of both Apple and Best Buy if they have a problem. It makes no sense whatsoever to buy directly from Apple.

When you put in 5400RPM drives as standard instead of 128GB SSD's, what do you expect? I want the new iMac, but not with a 5400RPM drive, even with the Fusion drive. This isn't the mid-2000's Apple. Give me a 7200RPM drive or SSD standard. Don't even get me started on $200 upgrade for an extra 8GB's of RAM when I used to be able do it for less than half that myself.

I know many Windows users who wouldn't buy a Mac even if they were the same price. They choose Windows for their own reasons. Lowering Mac prices is not in Apple's best interests.

"The report claims that Apple generally provides shipment forecasts to its supply chain partners at the beginning of each quarter, but the company has not done so for the second quarter. The lack of information has reportedly left suppliers wondering when they will be able to resume production. "

This type of behaviour seems more likely to be due to the inclusion of a last minute new feature in the pdt than the usual run of the mill slow down.

That was Atari in the 80's...

Nope. According to Apple Confidential 2.0, I think, Apple tried to 'corner the market' on DRAM and processors. Someone in purchasing got a 'deal you can't refuse' and took the bait. As I remember the story, Apple was stuck, literally, with hundreds of thousands of older technology, slow, way out dated processors and huge stockpiles of memory they were actually soon to transition out of. I think it was around the second coming that the story broke.

From what I remember, Apple had a warehouse full of the stuff, and people started shipping it around the country to keep it somewhat hidden. ALL of it went into a hole again as I remember the story and restrictions were placed on purchasing. Motorola, et all, wouldn't take any of the inventory back either (no surprise). And Apple execs at the time received huge bonuses for covering up the mess and padding the bottom line somehow.

A lot of stupid decisions nearly killed Apple in the time between Jobs was purged and before the second coming... This report is an interesting story that brings back bad memories, if true.

Having stock piles of components does no one any good, and as I stated on another thread, perhaps Apple is falling victim to their rapid release schedule. People perhaps know that a new model is coming out soon, and aren't buying?

This is not good at all for Apple.

Hopefully this will turn out good for customers, and Apple will seriously stop screwing us overpriced, underspec'd, uninnovative products.

It really is not! From a supply chain standpoint there are seven forms of waste. Inventory is a big one because it hides the root cause of the problem, in this case its overproduction. I am not liking where this is heading. I may sell my stock!

Too Big to fail???

Just an excuse to draw down supply before an full line up of new Macs

Many large companies have made the Major Miscalculation of their being too big to fail...ie Enron and perhaps now MS (at least they are trying but I still do not like their direction!)

Personally I am getting tired of Thinner at the expense of functionality (as in cheaper components) ie: a Notebook 2.5 inch drive in a basic EXPENSIVE Imac?

I presently own a mid 2011 21.5 Imac w/ Mt Lion, An extremely Basic HP Windoze 7 i3 machine, An Acer 10 inch tablet with ICS, an Ipad Mini, Galaxy IIs with the new Jelly Bean Update and more! (At least I can easily get and change the Samsung Battery in the Galaxy IIs !

As Much As I like the Imac and its OS (over windoze that is) Apple's Markup and ARROGANCE has begun to weigh on my future buying decisions!

Hate being tracked (Have more anti tracking addons for all my computers than carter has pills!) with each and every move I make....that goes for all, with Apple, Google, and MS all in the same league!! :eek:Sorry for the rant but common Apple...get real with prices and your product concepts!
(Wonder if their execs are as thin as their products!)

Apple's Mac prices have always been set at a premium. This has nothing to do with how big they become. Get your history and facts straight.

Why do people forget that they pay a nice dividend?

When interest rates are SUCKING for savers, tucking money away in a stock that pays dividends (and the company has a ****-ton of cash) is a great investment strategy.

Not when the stock is plunging in value. You are looking at return on principal and ignoring return OF principal.

There are plenty of junk bonds that pay a MUCH higher return than Apple's dividend. If all you care about is the percentage return and are willing to lose substantial amounts of principal, Apple stock is still a mediocre investment.

Because there is a glut of Macs in the warehouses, which takes money OUT of Apple's pocket. This ain't so hard to figure out.

This is no longer an issue for Apple. They have now developed an infrastructure in India where excess hardware can just be shipped out with cheap older chips to gain global market share and developer network effect. Their new infrastructure has sent them soaring to the second top vendor of smartphones in India last Q. (Triple that of last year).

No reply to by source request, iGrip?

*crickets chirping*

Perhaps you should "get a grip".

I wonder if jumping on the 'no-DVD drive' was a little to early too. I'm not fond of the idea of having a huge brick on my desk just to rip discs. Dumping the floppy drive wasn't a huge deal as I had already changed over to CD's, but now dumping the drive is one bridge crossed too soon in my book... I'm not ready to not have a drive, and I don't have the desktop landscape to host anything close to the size of an external drive. (Unless someone makes a mount that would hold a SuperDrive on the back of the new iMac. Cool idea for a new market. I doubt that Velcro would hold well enough)

No problem with a premium...But

History and facts are pretty accurate...

BTW I have NO problem for paying a premium...that is why I bought the Imac (my second)!!:)

I was beefing about the somewhat recent trend in increasing Imac prices and removing components to increase markups! NOW If the increased prices are justified by better tech...I will still pay! (Sorry but no Iphone in my future!

I don't miss mine......and I used to burn DVD's as a side job.

Old tech....

Top of the line 27 inch is still $1999.

Same as when I bought one in 2009.

Best Buy Apple kiosks are a ghost town because Best Buy is a ghost town.

Awesome post. Just awesome.

You sound like the same people that whined when Apple removed the floppy drive. How did that work out for them? This is Steve's ideology they are implementing. It's ridiculous to blame that on Tim Cook. Jeez......people......

I'm sure all the major investors will let Apple off when they are told that Apple is only implementing a dead persons ideology and it has nothing to do with the executive team in place currently

Your are utterly deluded to sit there and state anything that Apple does bad is because of Steve Jobs! Steve is not alive to read the market conditions, he is not alive to place orders to suppliers.

As I stated, you ignore the first part of my comment and this reads more and more that the current Exec team are not capable of running the business, the constant drop in share price is a testament to that if nothing else!

I was contradicting your illogical point. Could care less about investors. Just proving you wrong.
