Everyone went NUTS for AVP; until they heard the price. It was ALWAYS about price and nothing more.

I own it and for what it does nothing else does it remotely as well. My 70” TV is a joke compared to AVP. But it is fundamentally, almost exclusively, a media consumption device. You can’t compare it to any other experience because no other experience compares.

That said browsing the web is very painful as are most other things you would use any other device to do.

Now mine seems defective although I returned it to apple and they said it was fine. This matters because clicking around the environment doesn’t work reliably. Regardless of how often I run the configuration I always have to look several degrees to the left and slightly above anything I want to activate. But even if it worked perfectly it is just an awkward, slow, low density interface compared to anything other modern device.

The Spacial camera is of course vertical in orientation, which is just simply awful. The field of view is not good. And honestly even an iPhone 15 takes MUCH better spacial pictures and video than AVP does. The iPhone just has far better depth!

AVP DESPERATELY needed at least 1 IR camera. I assume in an apple workspace flooded by scores of overhead fluorescent lights no one ever thought that in my house at night it is a terrible experience to walk around in a pixilated world.

Finally I find the weight NOT A PROBLEM AT ALL! I am hyper sensitive about these things! I was very afraid I’d be unable to wear it because of this. But the balance is awesome and I can wear it for hours without any problem at all.

So yeah. It is a very solid first effort. But it isn’t everything I could wish for it to be.

Don't invent problems to solve, solve problems we already have in a price point that is less than having to buy several devices to solve those problems. Failed miserably at both. It lets you see your computer as a big monitor? Seriously? Why not let you see your spaces as a wrap around you wall of monitors that slide into view when you go to the app in that space? Put some fake buttons on your desk you can press to access things quickly. Literally impossible in any other context but they never bothered to push the envelope on software here to give users an experience they could get nowhere else. Its such a waste.

When it launched with no gaming narrative, it was basically DOA (at any price).

Gaming is the one thing that moves VR headsets these days, and you have to be in that space to have a chance, if for no other reason but to keep the product alive and being developed for.

Unlike the Mac Pro it is still on sale... If they are selling it I wouldn't call it a flop like it's over for it. Maybe they will sell it like this another few years and make something better.
Read the article. They already disbanded the Vision Pro team and reassigned them to other projects. It is dead. Apple is just trying to sell of the remaining inventory...but still no one will buy it. They don't even sell for half-price on Facebook Marketplace.

No, the price doesn’t need to come down, because then I’ll get a much less capable product. It’s priced fairly on what it delivers. If you want to cry about the price and pretend it’s not an awesome product, that’s just your case of sour grapes.

I agree. The price should stay the same. Instead, Apple should put 2500 $ into the bank account of every buyer. 😀

More seriously, they don’t need to bring the price of the Pro model down, they just have to release a cheaper Air model in addition, by getting rid of a few luxury aspects like that front-screen and all the pricey tech to make a mickey-mouse avatar of the user to be simulated on it.

If it had been half the price and focused on media consumption it would have been a marginal hit. It didn’t need an external screen that showed your eyes. It didn’t need a laptop chip. Etc, etc.

Damn, I read this whole thread, back to front, trying to find what he admitted. It never happens here. Should have started from the beginning. Doh.

He and I are on the opposite side of basically every topic it seems like so I wanted to ensure I showed appreciation for that post.

I think it's really important for good faith dialogue on the forum for us all to admit when we miss the mark.
It happens to everyone.

It's DEFINITELY not a flop. This product is laying groundwork for some amazing technologies later. It might be difficult to sell to consumers for its price, however, there are starting to be incredible usage examples in commercial settings like medical field, engineering, etc...

I believe this incredible piece of technology and patents will power a slew of fantastic devices in the near future. Apple will apply what they learned to create positive experiences for us, mere mortal customers, in years to come.

They have the cash to do so and have proven this over the last 50 years more than once.

It was already dead in the water at launch. What do they expect when you're charging £3199 for a product that should be selling at £349 considering its basic functionality is no different from any other competitor.

If it were the price, then nobody would buy $4,000 16-inch MBP M5 Max. The Mac Studio wouldn't be completely sold out. But it is.

Clearly, it's not the price. Rather, it's the fact that Vision Pro isn't appealing to anybody except for niche users.

Nobody wants to walk around with heavy, socially isolating goggles and a hip battery. All for what? Watching videos? Sure, the experience is great, but it's a loner experience. It's as simple as that.

Price is a major factor, but another key gap in Vision Pro is software limitations.

I BET no-one would buy a $4000 16-inch MBP M5 Max if it would be locked to only run iPad apps.

Good points. It was awkward with the accessories. However, it worked really well. The real issue is price. If it was $500, those other issues wouldn't be the death of it.

I say 1.5k if they lowered it to there THAT would be perfect. Much for “affordable” yet still a premium price…for a premium experience (outside of the weight of course)….

Make me an offer that I can't refuse!

IKR movies/shows must look so good on that…plus spatial pics and vids and again if they did maps like crazy in their that would be awesome same for music app (concert experiences) etc

Ppl say no killer apps but they already sort of do (music/Apple TV/ games etc) they just don’t maximize the possibilities because they just don’t see the point in inve$ting in something with such a small pool of users (not just owners)…imagine FaceTime app where you can “meet” others in whatever setting and go on dates or tours or whatever….ugh it may be down my friends, but Vision Pro ain’t out!!

I say give it ten years or so maybe more….

The price wasn't the issue. The weight wasn't the issue.

The reality is that there's never been much demand for VR headsets and I doubt there ever will be.
