Impossible. You mean that even though people who are developers and graphic designers are outnumbered 1000-1 in the market by people with other professions, and even though these devs and self-anointed "true pros" who have been on the cross for a week because of their slavish loyalty to Apple for X years, but not being catered to left them feeling emotionally betrayed didn't stop the vast majority of consumers and users from quietly buying and enjoying their new machines?
I guess all the complaining was just this:

In a wide-ranging interview with The Independent, Apple marketing chief Phil Schiller said the company has received more online orders for the new MacBook Pro so far than any previous-generation MacBook Pro.
Schiller said the early criticism and debate about the new MacBook Pro has been "a bit of a surprise" to him, but said "that's cool" and common for new Apple products. He attributed the response to a "passionate" customer base.Schiller went on to say the new MacBook Pro is "the best notebook ever made," but admitted it "might not be right for everyone on day one."![]()

Whereas some companies are blurring the lines between notebooks and tablets, Schiller said the basic L shape "makes perfect sense and won't go away."That response is part of Apple's belief that the Mac and iOS devices are "fundamentally two different products."Also interesting: Schiller noted the new MacBook Pro still has a 3.5mm headphone jack because it is a "pro machine," but lacks an SD card reader because it's a "cumbersome" slot best left to adapters or wireless transfers.

Think what is throwing us all off here is the term 'Pro'. For years, it has meant the absolute top of the range notebook with the latest specs, that could be maxed out in every way possible. A desktop replacement for a Pro, like me, a developer that need to run several virtual machines, application, database and web servers, development tools and what not.
Do I need better battery life and a lighter and thinner machine? Sort of, yes, I will take it if I can get it, but it is not top of my list. Its nice to be able to work when im "between wall sockets", but I need 4-5 hours tops on battery. Do I need 32gigs of RAM? Yes Please. Even if it shortens battery life? Yes please. What if I could have a setting in the System Preferences for "use only 16gigs when on battery"? I would be thrilled.
I would at least like to have the choice and not have Apple make the choice for me. The choice that longer battery life is more important to the sort of Pro I am than raw power.
Sadly, today it seems that term 'Pro' just means 'Top of the Apple range' and no longer 'The most powerful, and above all, usable laptop there is".
While I pretty much agree with your characterization, whether it’s smart of Apple to not cater to these users in the long run is a different question entirely.
good point!Yep, online shopping has dramatically increased since the last time MBP had any kind of significant update
"Pro" is a meaningless moniker in-general now . There's now even a "Pro" version of the PS4, a gaming console FFS.
The fact that the baseline new 13" MBP is geared towards Air users but still carries the moniker only makes it look worse. Oh, and don't even get me started about calling an iPad running iOS "Pro".
Just curious because I don't really know. Why can't pro photographers plug their camera in with a USB cable? Or hell. A new USB c cable with higher transfer speeds? Wouldn't that actually be better?I had to go back to the article when I saw your quote.
Headphone jack = pro machine but the SD Card Slot that literally every Pro photographer uses every day is cumbersome? This is just an excuse to defend removing an important port in favor of a port(USB-C) that isn't being used on 95+% of computers and for thinness.
"We care about what they love and what they are worried about."
LOL.
Yea, please make the next MacBook Pro even thinner .... its just too ****ing thick. Jesus.
Sold more than any other MBP? That means nothing. It's called inflation. It's kind of how like 1 million dollars used to be a really big deal, and now it's 1 billion.
Because they’ll never get the chance for a second interview if they frag him off.How can you interview him and not ask him about 1) the pricing 2) the need for a dongle to connect your iphone 3) desktops?
Selling any higher number of premium high margin laptops in a shrinking market definitely means something. And it doesn't have anything to do with inflation...
Yes - I ordered it maxed out (15", i7-6920HQ, 2TB SSD, amd 460 graphics), it does not have a touch screen but for all other tasks it is more then powerful enough, it is beautiful, it is able to run MacOs X, Windows and Linux.
There are a plenty of adapters for the thunderbolt 3 port - we should not have any problem with that.
Apple is obviously doomed and nobody is going to buy the new MBP's.
You are not holding it right....you are thinking this wrong .....deja vu!
Who in their right mind will pay 3500$ plus for a laptop that is going to become obsolete in 5 years......wait., maybe it's worth it,given the pace and nature of courageous innovation, maybe this is it.....no more ground breaking stuff for the the next 10 years .
I am going to take my 2011 mcbk pro to the shoe shine and jazz it up. No new mcbk pro for me.
macbook pros are already obsolete
no baby lake processors, no magsafe, no SD card slot, no touch screen, no matte screen, no wireless charging
The main complaint is the +$500 price bump. Machines are ok.
