Apple should just make a touchscreen version of the Macbook Pro and let their customers decide which one they prefer.
They can still use the trackpad or a mouse if they choose to....
f you made the Mac a touchscreen you’d have to figure out how to make it a good experience with your finger on a touchscreen. Trust me, we’ve looked at that — it’s a bad experience. It’s not as good or as intuitive as with a mouse and trackpad.
I mean if you can reach upto the new touch bar.....you can reach up to the screen in the same motion.
The same technology they incorporate into iphones and iPads can directly correlate to a touchscreen Macbook Pro.

Console yourself... at least Apple watch series II has the brightest display they have ever made.

This is a LOAD of crap. Yeah sure, these are "pro" machines with ****ING DUAL CORES and no dedicated graphics in the 13" models. And even the most expensive 15" model is WAY underpowered with its ENTRY LEVEL graphics processor.
I LOVE macOS, but these ****ers make it way too hard to stay on their side. I am still mad that I won't be getting a new MacBook until it's price drops on n one or two years.

Intel is too busy firing people right now. So, I am not expecting a tight time frame from them. (Latest firing squad : 12000 people)

Heh, that's the problem with being a giant with little direct competition: you occasionally go mad [cough, Apple, cough]

You mean perception right? Schiller has hard data on orders. We do not.

Mind you, careful reading of the article reads, Apple has receiced more "online orders," not Apple has receives "more orders." It just shows that people are getting accustomed to the convenience of buying things online or via app instead visiting a local store. Should there been more orders, Schiller definitely would have mentioned it. So actually, he is telling us that new Macbook Pro is not selling more than previous generations. But but but mind you, Schiller says 'but we are seeing an increase in online sales volume though...'

Sounds desperate more than anything else.

In 2016, a 15" model with 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD should be $2500. I think the new model isn't so bad, but the price bump is what really got in everyone's crawl. The innovation that apple brought isn't what Pro customer would have chosen. Thin and light is nice, but just how thin and light does it need to be when it starts sacrificing specs?

Would most pro users rather have 32gb of ram with the same thinness as last year's? Or maybe 2-3 more hours of battery life? Or maybe some legacy ports that would remove the need for dongles?

Apple's priorities don't seem to be aligned with their customers. And with Phil constantly dismissing concerns with terms such as "passion" or "courage", some people are going to go elsewhere.

Apple's priorities don't seem to be aligned with some professional users. The fact that Apple uses the term "pro" makes some professionals feel like the machine should be designed for them. This is compounded by the fact that Apple hasn't updated its only really professional computer, the Mac Pro, in years. That line is the only line of Macs that Apple has made that was intended for users who had serious computational needs. The Macbook Pro is not such a machine. If you have serious computational needs, you should be sitting in front of a desktop. I think that is Apple's view. Except Apple now doesn't even make a Mac Pro for those users. The Macbook Pro is just a nice powerful laptop. That is it. It isn't intended for the heaviest of computational needs. But the vast majority of Apple's costumers have no need for that much processing power. For them, this Macbook Pro is great (albeit expensive).

Apple had the "courage" to once upon a time to fire Steve Jobs. Lets see if they have the courage to fire his Jonny Ive dude

More hallucinations. Sir Jony Ive is an Apple icon and will stay with them until he's done with fight. And this is a fight. He will eventually leave and that will be a sad day for Apple fans.

This sounds about right for a MR post: even good news is bad.

Make sense. It's the longest gap between any MBP too. It's the best gap they ever made.

Schiller: “We love the Mac and are as committed to it, in both desktops and notebooks, as we ever have been.”

Keep the hope alive ;-)

Yes, I caught that as well. I'm sure that was intentional. The desktops are coming. And really it is the desktop form factor where high level computational power should reside. The delay in Mac Pro upgrades is inexcusable. But I do think Apple will rectify this at some point. Then you will have your device where you can stick your 64gb of RAM so it can be a pro machine.

Well, I'm surprised you don't see a familiar pattern then.

I've had to endure years of "Oh! Apple's gone crazy and this is their demise!" babble. Microsoft dismissed the iPhone and look what happened. Nokia rested on major market dominance and look what happened. RIMM was clueless about how to respond to the iPhone. Now they make no phones! Those iPhone killers never killed any iPhones -- though I'm a big fan of Android and Google and happy to see them successful and producing amazing phones and tablets.

Apple does it their way and it pisses off people. Their products are premium priced and carefully marketed. I endure the hating but I recall Liberace's famous retort, "I'm crying all the way to the bank."

First, I feel like MacRumors is trolling us...first with the one about negative reactions and now this one...but, yeah, it's newsworthy.

"We care about what they love and what they are worried about." -No. This is simply not true. People aren't complaining about a lack of Mac laptops with completely new ports or current ones being too thick. They don't care about the hardware requirements for the creative types. (I honestly don't care about the ports...and only care about the obsession with thinner models because of the impact on the internal hardware.)

"And it's our job to help people through these changes. We know we made good decisions about what to build into the new MacBook Pro and that the result is the best notebook ever made, but it might not be right for everyone on day one." This can only be in reference to the ports. While some people don't care one way or the other about the Touchbar, the ports are the only thing many people will have an issue with on day one. How will Apple "help people through those changes"? Many people also took issue with the price and the RAM/CPU/GPU in comparison to the price. This comment regarding people not being ready on day one completely obscures a whole host of criticisms.

"That's okay, some people felt that way about the first iMac and that turned out pretty good." An incremental and late product update is not similar to rolling out a new product. This model is not comparable to a whole new product compared to the former MBPs. What does it "turned out pretty good" mean?

I'm well aware that Apple doesn't need my money, btw. They've already got it. From my household's last 3 rounds of smartphones, 3 ipads, 6 computers over the years, cinematic display, and other stuff I'm forgetting.

whatever they're saying now, time will tell. - still remember this:

"Apple Watch sold more in a day than Android Wear did in 2014"

then ...

"Analysts Are Lowering Apple Watch Expectations Amid Flattening Demand"

Nope, but readers of the article.

There actually are probably quite a number of CEOs in this tread, who happen to be sitting in armchairs..

The sheer amount of post-announcement interviews certainly has my spider sense tingling...

Dont sound too discouraged, you never know things will get better for future generations sales. We are not unreasonable consumers here... we buy when a product meets our demands.

Schiller says theyve "looked into" the idea of a touch screen on a Mac laptop...but that it's a bad experience and not intuitive. I'd have to disagree. I love my iPad & iphone. I don't currently own a laptop, but EVERY time I use my brother's laptop, I ALWAYS try pinch zooming the screen to enlarge text or a picture. iOS devices have baked into our DNA at this point. So it's VERY intuitive to try and touch the screen of a laptop or desktop.

Think what is throwing us all off here is the term 'Pro'. For years, it has meant the absolute top of the range notebook with the latest specs, that could be maxed out in every way possible. A desktop replacement for a Pro, like me, a developer that need to run several virtual machines, application, database and web servers, development tools and what not.

Do I need better battery life and a lighter and thinner machine? Sort of, yes, I will take it if I can get it, but it is not top of my list. Its nice to be able to work when im "between wall sockets", but I need 4-5 hours tops on battery. Do I need 32gigs of RAM? Yes Please. Even if it shortens battery life? Yes please. What if I could have a setting in the System Preferences for "use only 16gigs when on battery"? I would be thrilled.

I would at least like to have the choice and not have Apple make the choice for me. The choice that longer battery life is more important to the sort of Pro I am than raw power.

Sadly, today it seems that term 'Pro' just means 'Top of the Apple range' and no longer 'The most powerful, and above all, usable laptop there is".

I wouldn't be surprised if these inflated sales were mostly bought by the developers.
let's wait and see sale numbers in 3-6 months. I doubt they will be high because if a loyal user such as myself is switching to a PC, I can only imagine the extent of the exudes.
