Oh but I'm not going anywhere yet. I will sell the desktop first, the buy the Dell, then run it alongside the MBP for a transitionary period. And I have an iphone and an ipad (which I will also sell but because I don't use it enough). Maybe you dont' realise people like me are bought into the Apple ecosystem for ten years or more. Its not so easy to jump ship, even if apple leave us little choice.
Maybe ask all these users how they did it back in 2008 when Apple removed FireWire? There sure were a lot of people that were leaving the Apple ecosystem back then, too!

What do you find uninspiring?

The super fast SSD that's significantly faster than previous years?

Or maybe the super-size trackpad that's clickable over the whole surface?

No, maybe it's the high-performance color-accurate DCI-P3 wide gamut display, likely to be the best in laptops?

Or maybe it's the best in class I/O capable of astonishing data rates ready for the future, with four TB 3/USB 3.1 ports, each being able to handle multiple streams and drive multiple external displays (where a single cable can supply data, display programming and charge for the laptop? That can use tiny inline $4 adapters to interface to your USB peripherals, if needed?

The compact lightweight design with 10 hour battery?

Which of the above are not inspiring?
A $500 price hike and the inability to connect anything to it without dongles is uninspiring.

I am no longer interested in the macbook pro series, but my need for portability is really not that great anyways. I will consider an iMac though, next year more than likely. I currently have a Mac Mini and the 8GB of RAM is starting to show issues. I believe the 5K iMac has the ability to upgrade to 32GB (by user, thankfully) .. it would suit me a bit better I think.

I call BS. Apple should release some numbers to back up that statement. They need to show how many 13" Pros without the touch bar were sold in comparison to the 13" and 15" pros. I'm willing to be the majority of the sales were the 13" Pros without the touch bar, and those are NOT real Macbook Pros. They are just the Macbook Air with the same 15w cpu, and a Retina screen.

How is that relevant ?
It's not, really, just pointing out the way that users here make a big deal out of every change - and how that's been happening for a very long time. I'm almost certain that a lot of the users who said they were leaving ended up changing their minds (or coming back) - but maybe not. Either way, Apple seems to survive.
But seriously, best of luck to you with your switch (again, not being sarcastic, but for some reason every time I read that it sounds sarcastic in my head... I should find a better phrase lol)

The super fast SSD doesn't matter because in the end, the Geekbench score is almost the same as the previous MacBook Pro.

Apple unfortunately also has a history of being on a rollercoaster of brilliance and sharp decline...

Well, Apple is the most successful corporation in the world with the world's highest market valuation at $602.8 Billion (today's numbers) -- so I guess that decline hasn't been going on for very long. I walk into my local coffee shop and I see nothing but Apple laptops; some being used to create the latest film; or Apple iPhones being used in abundance. This decline is very steep and frightening to me!

Phill Schiller needs to retire and leave Apple ASAP.

Of course there will be record sales, the other available macs are severely outdated, duh, no choice.

But there should be choice!

If Apple are making computers that people are so upset with, why aren't Microsoft or Google stepping in to take the market?

Google did it with Android, why not have a go at a fully-fledged desktop OS?

Reading the article, I just lost all faith in Apple's management.

Will I buy the new MacBook Pro? Yes. And I'll learn to live with the hubs & dongles & initial inconveniences for 1-2 years.

I wish Apple were more in touch with what customers want TODAY, not in 4 years, with their forward-thinking.

If there are no options othen than those that Apple offers, as long as you are heavily locked & invested in the macOS/iOS/tvOS/watchOS ecosystem, of course you will buy what they throw at you.

They are milking us for it. Do I like it? No. Will I switch to Windows/Android combination of tech? Hell no. Today, what Apple does, hurts, but switching to alternatives would hurt more.

So:

Prepare for an iPhone Pro next year, with a 3.5mm headphone jack – because it will be a "pro" iPhone, starting at $1089 (new 32 GB, 5" variant).

You are not holding it right....you are thinking this wrong .....deja vu!

Who in their right mind will pay 3500$ plus for a laptop that is going to become obsolete in 5 years......wait., maybe it's worth it,given the pace and nature of courageous innovation, maybe this is it.....no more ground breaking stuff for the the next 10 years .

I am going to take my 2011 mcbk pro to the shoe shine and jazz it up. No new mcbk pro for me.

I'm in the same boat, although I'm a life-long dual OS user so it's not such a leap.

The Dell XPS 15 is said to getting its Kaby Lake update in January (and yes, with a 32GB option) and Nvidia 10 series card. My partner has last year's and it's really an incredible machine (and insane for the price). The build quality is every bit as good as my MBP (and much kinder on the wrists).

Combine that with the Surface Studio (I use a Cintiq with a MBP normally), and I can see myself getting that in its second iteration when it gets the Nvidia 10 series update, which which is far, far more impactful than Kaby Lake.

Which means I'll have sliced Apple out of my life for the first time in over 20 years. Sad times.

You clearly are either pretty young or new to Apple if you don't know their lurching history, which seems to be repeating..

That would fit more neatly on the loose Intel timeframe, but apparently unveiling at CES in January, release late Jan/Feb is what customer reps have been saying.

Intel is too busy firing people right now. So, I am not expecting a tight time frame from them. (Latest firing squad : 12000 people)

I'm 57 and I've tracked Apple's history from the first Mac through their dangerous 1997 period. Reports of a decline of Apple are hallucinations.

Apple had the "courage" to once upon a time to fire Steve Jobs. Lets see if they have the courage to fire his Jonny Ive dude
Agreed. I am so sick of him, his BS, and his design focus. I can just hear him explaining why the Mac Pro was so awesome, and how we can just buy lots of stuff to use it. LMFAO and how its so neat and simple without cords. Have you ever seen one in use with all the bays and external enclosures!? Its way more messy then just having stuff allowed to exist in the computer.
