To be even more fair, I was responding to what he actually said. :D

To be even more fair - context is everything and he was responding to the promotion of quotes. Personally I don't think keynotes count as real promotion. Certainly not formal promotion. But you go ahead and count it all you want.

Are you guys arguing just for the sake of disagreeing with each other?

The original post that BaldiMac was replying to was utterly moronic in the first place. And you guys are arguing about the context of the moronic quote.

You must be confused. I upgraded from a 4S, and the 5S is a LOT faster, with a LOT better camera and a larger screen and its a bit lighter too.

With the iOS7 update, the 4S is noticeably slower than the 5S and the speed of the 5S' camera is an amazing improvement. No waiting around between shots or for the app to load. What's more, the lower-light performance of the 5S' camera is considerably better than the 4S.

Maybe the move from a 5 to a 5S is not as big a step, but from the 4S it certainly is.

Oh, and then there is the fingerprint sensor. Almost forgot about that one.
The fingerprint sensor that can be bypassed with a copier and some glue? Or a Cat's paw?

Sorry, I never have cared much for the idea of fingerprint sensors, simply because they are so easy to bypass.

Touché :D

Good lord, I hope they don't go with a 5" screen. The 4" screen on the 5/5s/5c is already pushing it in my opinion.

Alternatively, if they do, I'm hoping they offer a "iPhone Nano" SKU for those of us that don't want to be carrying around giganto-phones.

Well, there is that segment of the population that still truly believes that if something is good, then supersizing it will make it better.

Kind of like french fries. Sounds like a good idea till you get fat.

Or you get a Samsung, in which case, you'll want one of these:
http://www.businessinsider.com/this-early-review-for-samsungs-smart-watch-sounds-really-bad-2013-9

----------

I don't want eye candy features, I want innovative features, such as the ability to run multiple apps at once on the same screen, the swype keyboard, automatically remove moving objects from pictures, etc. that the competitors have done. But not just for Apple to catch up to these features, but to also come out with something truly new and amazing.

Or what about making the phone waterproof up to a depth of say 30 Ft. for 3 hours, crushproof with up to 15lbs of force, drop proof from heights up to 15', freezeproof, etc.

If they can do it with a touch screen digital camera, they can surely do it with a touchscreen phone. Yes, the touch screen might not be able to operate under water, but at least make it survive such an incident.

This is innovation?

I don't know about the rest of the population but I prefer the R&D dollars go to something else other than for features that protect people who:

  • drop their phones from three stories in the air
  • drop 15lbs objects on their phones
  • leave their phones in the freezer
  • and my favorite, drop their phones in a toilet bowl since they are surfing the web will going number 2

On the last item on that list, there really should be no feature that protects someone from that. I mean, if you drop your phone in the toilet, you deserve to have to pick it up and try to rescue it in its current state. And then, you deserve having to explain to all those who ask, why you need a new cell phone.

I can see why people want 5" screens or bigger though.. given that some would like to be able to do two things at once on their smartphones. Which I find incredibly terrifying. I mean, imagine that idiot in his Chevy Suburban driving behind you. Instead of just texting on his smart phone as he drives, he is actually watching a movie at the same time.

Upgraded from a 4S for a larger screen and LTE. The latter being a big one.. It allows me 5gb of "unlimited data" instead of 3gb before being throttled.. Not to mention that it is LIGHTNING FAST. Couldn't be happier. It is the best iPhone, hands down.
ditto. And the fingerprint sensor just works; never thought it would be this amazing. Bravo Apple.

Was the Verge not sampled with a review unit?

Their review wasn't released at the same time as these other outlets but I can't imagine the Verge not getting a review unit, as they are one of the foremost sources for tech news and they seemed to be in attendance at the phone announcement with their liveblog.

Anyone know anything about this?

All signs point to them not getting them. Their coverage of the iOS 7 reveal and WWDC as a whole may have something to do with it- it was extremely hollow and blatantly negative.

It may be the best smartphone on the market right now...but there is almost no reason to upgrade if you have a 4S or 5 already...unless you want a fingerprint reader.

Never had an iPhone? Sure...iPhones are very nice. I love my 4S 64GB. I really was looking for a reason(s) to upgrade to the 5S (the super-slightly larger screen which was introduced on the 5 didn't cut it for me) but no reasons appeared.

What would have made me happier (outside of iOS software improvements) and purchased an upgrade?...

-much better camera improvement
-larger storage options as well as replacing the 16GB option with 32GB
-USB 3.0 connectivity so I don't spend forever (on USB 2.0) transferring tons of content
-jaw-dropping Siri functionality/improvements thanks to newer CPU/iOS
-direct device-to-device Airplay support so I don't have to go through my router/network.

On a side note, I have seen iOS 7.0 on a friend's iPhone 5. YUCK! The whole style/colors is horrific, Calendar is all new look and feel, ditto for Notepad...just terrible from a UI perspective IMO. Oh, and she hates it too...she's gonna try to restore a backup.

If you are on contract upgrading is a no brainer (assuming you are eligible). You can sell both a 4s and a 5 for enough to pay the upgrade payment. It costs you nothing more than signing up for a new contract.

In return, you get a phone that is much faster, has a useful finger print sensor, a cool motion processor, better battery life, a better camera with cool functionality like slo-mo and burst mode, and IOS 7 ( which in my view is awesome - best upgrade ever).

Both you and your friend are strange.

Where are the naysayers now?

Apple would never produce a gold one.
Apple will never produce a plastic one.
Apple would never come out with those colors.
Apple priced the 5c too much.
Apple needs a larger screen.
Apple cannot innovate.
Apple is doomed.

How about this:

Apple cannot possibly be serious with these fugly Android-ish icons!

Point by point:

1. Big deal
2. Big deal
3. Big deal
4. We have no indication this product is a success. iPhone 5S despite limited availability is selling far better
5. I agree.
6. I don't think buying a fingerprint company is innovative, and 64 bit designs haven't been used in a smartphone but are certainly being considered by all involved. It might be innovative, but we'll see a year from now.
7. I think Apple is doomed in the long term to profitableness, but I don't think it'll be anything different than "just another company"-

(I bolded for emphasis) - as that is one of the dumbest things I've read...and this is the internet.

The enhancements under the hood are huge - potential for 64 bit is a big step forward in apps and iOS power.

Even the larger sensor for the camera makes positive impact. It's not just pixels as any digital photographer will tell you.

Why Apple never has enough

I do think that Apple should have more product available before a big hyped up launch. Even if they didn't sell 20 million the first weekend, I'm pretty sure that they wouldn't be stuck with a bunch of phones in a warehouse somewhere wondering what are we going to do with all the leftovers.

A product with this much demand is never going to have enough stock on hand on sell date. The big initial demand is a transient phenomenon, which means that it would be too expensive to contract for enough production capacity to meet the initial demand in real time. So Apple needs to build up stock between the time when the product's design is finalized and its sell date. Inevitably, they will need to compromise. Delay the sell date long enough to have enough stock to fully meet the demand, and they'll lose some impatient customers, and also give the competition more time to catch up to the product's technological advances (like Apple's 64-bit ARM SOC). Don't delay at all, and the'll lose sales to people who are frustrated because they can't get the product they want. So they end up somewhere in the middle: enough product on hand to meet demand from the most ardent buyers--the ones willing to stand in long lines or set the clock for the middle of the night to place an early online order--and enough production capacity to fill other orders within a few weeks.

The best on the market...

Shame on you Apple. For each generation of iPhone it used to be the best smartphone ever...

The small difference here is enough to make it soon to be off the throne.

This just has to be said: there is an upcoming Samsung phone being release in GOLD. Samsung also said that they'll be going to 64-bit and have a fingerprint sensor. Hmmm... innovate much?

It was always obvious that Samsung phones were poor iPhone imitations but now it's just getting embarrassing for them. There is even an iOS theme that you can get for Android... and don't mention the iMessage for Android fiasco that recently happened.

Pathetic.

Cough... Android has an iOS 7 theme.

The fingerprint sensor that can be bypassed with a copier and some glue? Or a Cat's paw?

Sorry, I never have cared much for the idea of fingerprint sensors, simply because they are so easy to bypass.

This is intentional misleading information. The cat's paw? Of course since it was the registered print. A copier and some glue? Go back to read the article again. Good luck by trying with your copier and some glue.

It's great they are getting positive feedback, despite this being a low key update for those wanting bigger screens, and other more eye candy features to be added. Will have to wait for 2014 to see what Apple does...QUOTE]

Are you kidding? My previous iPhone was the '4'; I've had the white version since May '11. I finally activated my iPhone 5s this morning and for me (and many others) this not a 'low key update'. Love the speed, camera, and the fingerprint unlock. I don't care for a bigger screen-coming from an iPhone 4-the screen on my new iPhone 5s was plenty big.

It all falls down to perspective.
:)

Apple could release an actual dog turd and he would jerk off saying its the greatest thing ever.

Apple is always bragging until a major issue is found and a class action is launched

for each product, always the same story....

Damn right they're bragging. Why not? The 5S was being billed as apples biggest blunder by all the naysayers and fandroids. Turns out that the 5s could possibly be the best iPhone ever. And the fact that it's an S upgrade, say a lot about apple and what they are doing. You think apple cares about a few class action lawsuits from competitors? Pft..no way. The 5s (as weird as this sounds) set a new bar. No android device even comes close.

I love mine. Fast, fast, fast!

I find little new things to like about it every day, like the chat bubbles in messages having bouncy momentum physics applied to them when you scroll. Loving details. :)

I think thats my least favourite thing about iOS7. Its interesting to see how peoples tastes differ. I searched the web and couldnt find others who had a problem with it, so maybe its just me.

If Apple were to leak a rumor that they are working on a dog turd for release by Xmas, you can bet that Samsung would be releasing their version of Korean dog turd by Black Friday just to say they came out with it first.

Come to think of it, Samsung has already released Korean dog turd. I think they call it Galaxy Gear.

It really depends on how it is used. If Apps take up the entire battery in one hour (as some do on the A6) then what's the gain? Using your battery twice as fast? Pass.

This chip might be good plugged in but we need time to figure out whether or not it is worth it. As far as I know, nothing exploits it yet except maybe the OS. Again, we'll see, now won't we?

Your quick to judge on it, and saying that a camera makes a phone might be one of the dumbest things I've read on the internet. I'd say making a 64 bit chip might be up there with a quad core chip: Who cares for most usage?

Are you going to be encoding DVDs or something on your phone?
