It may just be personal preception, however this launch doesn't feel as smooth, or as plentiful as previous years.

I still think the inventory was a bit thin to begin with. No Preorders meant that people who wanted to order online had to do it at Midnight in order to have had it ship by now. Many people who did go that route, are still waiting for delivery for their device. It is not hard to predict that the lack of pre-orders would also push buyers into the retail stores in order for them to have an early copy of the 5S.

I am personally waiting until the hype dies down a bit, as I am fine running my existing iPhone. That said, it is hard to ignore the many threads on this topic within the iPhone forum here on MacRumors, and on various other tech sites / Podcasts.
There never was a smooth launch. Never had enough. Although, this year, they under estimate how much gold color would be popular.

I hope hype is always there.

Heres some more interesting observations for all you iPhone Fact-Hunters out there ....

A high court found an Android-user's DNA guilty this afternoon. The evidence showed that the nucleic acid which encodes the body's structure and behaviour had caused the man to buy a phone that wasnt made by Apple. Passing sentence the judge said the man was free to go but ordered that his DNA be confiscated and imprisoned in a special cell for people who own Android-based mobile devices.

Beat that!
Good. Sorted. Fine. Done.

You need therapy!!!! and lots of toilet paper:D

Honestly, I have an iPhone 4S 32GB with the iOS 7 update. It is like a brand-new phone. No scratches. Flawless. I just don't see the advantage to upgrading to the iPhone 5S. Slightly better blah, blah, blah...?

If I am wrong, please, help me see the light.

Has Apple made a big deal of press reviews before this? It just seems really strange for them to prop up the press reviews instead of letting the products speak for themselves.

Well maybe it's time that they do. I for one am sick of the haters that want to spread FUD about Apple's products as if the whole world feels the same as they do. It's refreshing to hear positive reviews from the press.

----------

Apple is always bragging until a major issue is found and a class action is launched

for each product, always the same story....

This is just one example why I said what I said up above.

----------

I'd love to know how many shipped
I work in ye olde dot com gulch and I've yet to see anyone with a 5S.

You do realize that 9 million people can exist on just one state alone right? It would take a while before you might notice that. Not only that, you can't tell from even close proximity if someone has a 5 or a 5S if they have a case on it. :p

With all the negative press lately about how they are going down the drain i think it's a good call. Especially as an investor in Apple. I'd like to see them succeed not just for personal gain, but also because it's fun to silence the haters.

But I have read so many stories by Wallstreet Analysts (you know...the ones who actually know the most about tech) over the last year that Apple is gone, kaput, finished.

How can they be so wrong over and over again and never be held accountable? The only thing "fading" is them. People are sick of their BS!!!!

Just wished Apple would have built more of these units before the official launch. Some stores only receiving small amounts of stock, only once this week is quite poor. Hard for customers to be amped about the amazing products, if they can't get their hands on them.

Please, anyone who was suitably "amped" to buy one already has one. Anyone who waited can wait a bit longer. 9 million of Apple's most enthusiastic customers got their phones the first weekend.

I actually enjoy seeing them confirm their ignorance. In the short term if their spew influences dumb money sentiment then a contrarian bet with enough duration for the truth to reveal itself is in order! The list of analysts whose opinions I consider gets shorter every year.

Back slapping.

if you have "....the best smartphone int he market" the actual full sentence could easily be "Apple was hoping for the best smartphone in the market."

I personally never trust a part quote used for selling things.

On a relating topic, iOS7, doesn't it look very "cheap"?

I hate how it feels and how it looks... it's not the easy pick-up-and-use OS anymore, which is sad...

The 5S and 5C made me jump the ship and go Android (S4), which I'm not proud of since I love apple. But I wont spend hundres of dollars on something that isn't worth it...

Steve would never have allowed this unfinished and unoptimized products (both hardware and software) to reach the end customer.

Is this Cook's way of saying "This is my company now, Steve. And there is nothing you can do about it"?

Im disgusted that someone like Cook can do something like this to Steve and dishonor his legacy.

I'll probably get flamed for this but I think they would sell twice as many if they offered a 5" iPhone.

The press is so over-rated...

They must tell the good stuff..

The same thing was said about the iPhone 5 too.

This just has to be said: there is an upcoming Samsung phone being release in GOLD. Samsung also said that they'll be going to 64-bit and have a fingerprint sensor. Hmmm... innovate much?

It was always obvious that Samsung phones were poor iPhone imitations but now it's just getting embarrassing for them. There is even an iOS theme that you can get for Android... and don't mention the iMessage for Android fiasco that recently happened.

Pathetic.

----------

Cough... Android has an iOS 7 theme.

Sad post. Samsung has nothing to do with the imessage clone and Android doesn't have an iOS theme - an independent developer created one.

The hate is strong with you...

I agree. It was funny watching them backtrack and try to search for ways to explain why they were so wrong when they predicted 5-6 million iPhones and Apple announced 9 million sold.

I am not spreading FUD about iPhone, I've been using three gens, but I am not going to return to that small/tiny screen.

My hope is iPhone 6.

Great that you don't need to upgrade your iPhone 4S. I have a iPhone 5 installed with iOS7 and I don't feel the need to upgrade either. So why do you feel that someone needs to sell you on the iPhone 5S? Enjoy your iPhone 4S and don't sweat why others are excited about the iPhone 5S.

I dont like that one of the quotes they have chosen claims the iphone had the best camera out of all phones, when that is objectively wrong.

It's a subjective statement. A camera can have lower specs but be a better camera (either in absolute terms or for some specific purpose). The photographic forums are full of this. Personally, I'd need to see side-by-side comparisons and then make up my own mind as to what was best!

ditto. And the fingerprint sensor just works; never thought it would be this amazing. Bravo Apple.

Agreed. This is for me the biggest surprise. I never used a passcode because of the inconvenience, so I was hoping the fingerprint sensor would be convenient enough for me to actually have some security on my phone. But what I didn't expect was that unlocking my phone using the sensor would be even quicker and more convenient than just swiping as I had to do on my old (zero security) phone. Even without the improved security, this makes it a significant upgrade for me.

Or alternatively, how they cleverly manipulated people to sell Apple stock and then made a quick killing on the price increase...

I'm in the same situation. The 4s is still adequate for my needs, even though I expected to upgrade to the 5s when it was released. (And I like the 'space gray' better than the 'black' from the 5.) I suspect I'll be ready to upgrade sometime around when the 6 is released.

I certainly agree. Even on my old 4s, I thought that it was a substantial improvement based on features. The new graphical style is not such a big deal--you get used to that kind of thing pretty quickly. But I do find that when I go back to iOS 6, it looks kind of clunky.
