I saw an independent comic book 100% made with an ipad pro. it's on Amazon search for Alienox it's something else, I can't wait to read a new one made with this beast

I think my favorite feature has to be that the Apple Pencil 2 can charging Inductively right through the iPad, which basically eliminates without having to charge through the lightning port as an alternative method.

That is a charge out induction strip. Apple should have included a second charge in induction strip (MagSafe 3) for the iPad and USB-C could have been a universal port. SmartConnector is a data and power out port. Looking forward to the day iOS products adopt AW charging disc method.

Try working on a large Excel spreadsheet on an ipad with your fingers and you will see immediately why a mouse is mandatory!

Spreadsheet apps such as excel were not designed for a touch interface, it was ported over to incorporate touch. That is the hinderance. Even Numbers is cumbersome to use on an iPad with large datasets.

That's one application that's almost impossible to use on any touch device, which is sad because Excel is probably the best software program ever made.

Its seems oddly overpowered and overpriced. Almost as if a new OS will be installed in the device soon.
So many people waiting for this hypothetical new OS. May consider spending that much on an iPad after I see the said os and what it can do. Until then, all roumors about it are just wishful thinking and my money is sleeping in the bank collecting interest or spent on other useful things.

iPad is just a tablet with a stylus. Nothing more nothing less. One can call it "PRO", put a fast CPU in it it'll still be a tablet with a stylus and a phone OS to boot. While this model can help some corner use cases, I believe Apple's direction is misguided. If they succeed, at best they will get a tablet as good as a laptop. Big deal. Solution in search of a problem. Tablets picked up as a device category because they were better than existing computers at certain things, namely as simplified and convenient content consuming devices. Some companies still treat them this way (Samsung is one such example). Apple is trying to turn them into something else. While 11" iPad Pro is still a good device for content consumption, it is overpriced for this. As a result, Apple ecosystem now simply does not have a good tablet for what people use them most. The basic model is too under-specced and Pro models are over-specced and overpriced.

And it’s undoubtedly the most expensive tablet that can’t connect to a mouse.

Holly molly!
Could you please give me one logical reason as to why on earth someone would want to connect a mouse to a tablet like iPad? Assuming (and I think this is very unlikely) you were being serious.

Actually, they are slowly replacing Windows as the kiosk of choice, mainly because they're so much easier to secure and develop for. At this point the vertical/enterprise use of tablets might substantially larger than the consumer use of tablets, something which Apple won't break out.

Have you ever tried to make a precise selection using your fingers? It's absolutely horrifying.

I honestly can’t say this has been an issue for me at all. Maybe for you it has and others, but using the iPad interface as I have been for years, ’Precise selection’ has never put me in a situation where I wish I had a mouse. Probably one of the reasons why Apple will never implement the functionality either, being the iPads core focus is through a touch interface.

I just read the Verge review and I agree with it. The new iPad is stunning when it comes to hardware, and the performance is insane, but the limitations of iOS and the lack of pro apps are, well, very limiting. The performance of the SoC makes it look like a bargain, considering it’s almost at the performance of $2500 MacBook Pros, but there’s not much use of it due to the software.

Apple only highlighted the positive parts of each of these reviews

Yeah, how I'd love to see my Apps on their App store only receive positive reviews.

Actually, on this topic, the Twitter CEO said recently that they were going to get rid of it's like button.
Quote "...to ensure we are incentivizing healthy conversation".

So I hope you are reading this Apple, time to re-think the reviews on the App store?
The App trolls don't like it when you answer back, no matter how nicely you word it (New Linus mode ;) )

If you can select your reviews why can't everyone else enjoy "positivity" too and "healthy conversation"

Apple highlighted the reviews for the iPhone XR, too. Have they always done this for their products? I feel like it's something new they're doing and that it's a bit out of character, but I may be wrong.
Unfortunately, you are not wrong.

I noticed they didn’t quote The Verge.
Yeah, that's because the verge review was spot on and nailed the flaws perfectly. It's an expensive powerful device that's totally borked by running ios and the baby version of every single app a cheaper computer can run better. You need to hack things together to get standard pc functions. The problem is a good one, ios is just in the way so software can change, but will apple be too stubborn to let that happen?

The simple act of connecting a hard drive to the USB c port for file import is a joke beyond belief. Apple have made it almost impossible to break a copyright law on the device, trearing you like a child. But it should be your personal responsibility to use content within the law and open ios up.

Did you not watch Apple keynotes in the past? Walt Mossberg was Jobs’ go to quote generator. Had quips from Mossberg’s reviews displayed on stage at MWSF and the like.

It’s incorporated into Jobs’ narratives nicely. But to lump many positive reviews is lazy and boring.

I gather The desire for a mouse with the iPad, but is it really _that_ much of an issue that a consumer wouldn’t purchase this simply because they can’t connect to a mouse? No. Using the display for touch works perfectly fine, and I doubt that would persuade anyone otherwise to not want to purchase this new iPad for that reason alone.
Believe it or not, it’s not just about connecting a mouse. It’s using that mouse to control apps. Like Final Cut Pro X, or Logic Pro X to name a few, which aren’t supported on this so called “Pro” device. So yes, it is that much of an issue as to where I wouldn’t buy an iPad.

I hate to say it because i'm an Apple fan, for the price of the iPad Pro you can get a Surface Pro 6 which is much more closer to being a laptop replacement, if only it wasn't for Windows :(

I'm not saying that the iPad Pro is bad, i'm still using a 2017 iPad Pro but it can't fully replace my computer and MacOS. If Apple want this new iPad Pro to start replacing professional computers, they really need to add much better features in IOS 13.

What is hard to determine at the moment is if these iPads are reasonably priced. There is no comparison to them at the moment.
In terms of what, hardware and processing power? Probably not, but that’s hardly the issue, the iPad is immensely powerful, but outfitted with a completely inadequate software platform for professional use (unless you are an artist).

It’s really too bad because I can’t use this for my job, and even for personal use I can’t justify buying a $1k Pro over the simpler $330 non-Pro model.

Apple really, really needs to rehaul iOS if it wants this device to replace notebooks in the pro fields.

I am always happy when apple does release an update that I feel like it is worth getting. The new iPads are such a product. I still use the first gen iPad Pro. It’s still great and not due for an update but in case I would need a new one because this one breaks I would look forward to one of those latest.

The one thing that breaks the iPad for me as a device for work is that I cannot use a mouse with it. I am just a lot faster on my Mac. Having to reach the iPad for each “click” breaks it. The situation with the file system can be worked around using the cloud.

Neither Excel nor mouse are needed for a normal consumer (or even a small business for that matter).

Apple Numbers or Google Docs are quite good for basic business tasks.

iPad is primarily for art, music, drawing and painting, word processing, email etc. It can be good for sketching, I didn't try but also for music creation (some big artists use iPhone/iPad for beat composing).

I can use Excel and 1000 column tables on dedicated hardware setup.

And I don't miss Excel on iPad, even though it is available.
