It blows my mind that Apple hasn't implemented a search bar for emojis

WHY IS EVERYONE ACTING LIKE THE SEARCH BAR DOESN'T ALREADY EXIST!

Literally type your message in imessage and hit the emoji button. If there's emoji that match your words they're highlighted yellow and tap them to replace with emoji. This has existed on iOS for like forever!!

They're ... forcing us to conform to their narrow minded view...

And you know this because? Or are you just making stuff up again.
Basic knowledge. I can’t help you if you refuse to learn.

Don’t talk to me about making stuff up. That’s what most others do here. Most of my posts and opinions are backed up by sales data and public reports on Apple rather than my own anecdotal experience.

They have. It's build right in when you are typing. Example attached

That only works in iMessage

So this is where some of the precious expensive device flash memory is being used on...
if we want extremely neutral representation of gender, color, ideals, beliefs, etc then use a single damn stick figure person. Ok, maybe two, one with long hair and one without hair. You can use those two for: men, women, bald or short hair (men or women), long hair (men or women), any ethnicity, any inclination, any beliefs system. Problem solved with only TWO emojis, instead of 250.
To ease the migration towards stick figures (you know, people might still go rebel out and break street lightposts) we can start by using the current human emojis in a single color, the average of all them... maybe a middle-ground brown-white unsaturated yellowish skin color. The epitome of being unified and merging all differences.
As a latin guy myself, I’m willing to accept that deal... who’s in? ✋

this sounds super boring
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

For me, if all the emojis had just stayed yellow, everything would have been simpler. I still use the yellow emojis and my skin isn't yellow. Why? Because I don't care and have more important things in life to worry about. As long as my point gets across, what the hell does it matter to me what the emoji looks like?

Tim Cook’s legacy.

Ummm.... it’s his legacy to have his company use the exact same amount of time and energy as every other tech company to update to the latest Unicode standards?
Seems weird. Why aren’t you saying that about the CEO of Google or Samsung or Facebook???
I’ve never seen a new Unicode standard come into effect & those guys be shocked, surprised, and caught flat-footed. Nope, they have their designers updating their emojis in the exact same time frame and implement them in the exact same time frame.

According to the article (not a bad read; you should at least skim it!), literally the only thing that had to specifically do w/ Apple in this Unicode standard was their suggestion to have wheelchairs and the like represented in emojis...
You really think that footnote of a footnote of a footnote of an inconsequential suggestion, likely from a junior staffer, during a boring Unicode Consortium meeting that Mr. Cook CERTAINLY did not attend, will somehow be Tim Cook’s hallmark; his entire legacy??

Wow. Bold.

I mean, absolute nonsense- not within light years of reality... but still: BOLD!

Yes because, between that, the wasted space below the keyboard and the space the contact picture now takes up, my message screen is shrinking with each new iteration of iOS.

No thanks. How bout they organize it better. You know in ways that make actual sense.

No jumping the shark emoji, seems like a missed opportunity.

For real. It’s getting to be too much.

Emoji used to be a quick and easy way to say something with only an image, but noooooooow it takes seemingly forever to find the damn image of what you want because they’re continually adding more and more to the mix, that it’s actually usually easier to just type the word instead of scrolling through the growing list of emojis. Enough is enough, there is ALWAYS going to be new objects to add, it doesn’t mean that we should be.

I think emoji in general are a worthwhile pursuit for the UI icon team at Apple. It keeps them sharp and gives them something to do between OS refreshes. Apple's icon dev has always been a very important part of the company. The artist who masters waffle shading today, hones his blade for shading other UI elements.

However, Apple has a limited amount of public relations capital, while much greater than most companies, there is not an infinite pool available for Apple to feature everything. It's legitimate to question whether the PR priority/resources spent on emoji, would not better serve other areas for Apple.

Also the emoji consortium kinda sucks, there's a lot of useless and redundant clutter (example, the abundance of pen/pencil/marker varieties, and most of the symbols section). Maybe Apple shouldn't be ingesting their design recommendations wholesale, and just piling more cutesy novelty on top of a poorly sorted default base? I'd prefer to see Apple cut loose that consortium shackle, make emoji more meaningful beyond just annual superficial personal traits.

I love the new emojis! I don’t know where I would use them, but I really like the waffle and pink flamingo one. I must say though, with this many it is getting a little cumbersome. Sure there is search, if you know the word that is used to describe it. But sometimes you just want to look through them and there is getting to be too many and I wish they were grouped into more collections.

I also like the couples ones quite a bit. Which leads me to this:
