Apple has increased the price of iCloud storage in several regions around the world, including the United Kingdom, Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and South America.

iCloud-General-Feature.jpg

Every Apple ID receives 5GB of free cloud storage, but users can upgrade to a paid iCloud+ storage subscription plan to get 50GB, 200GB, or 2TB of storage. The price hike, first spotted by 9to5Mac, represents an increase of around 25 percent.

iCloud+ SubscriptionPrevious UK PriceNew UK Price
50GB£0.79/month£0.99/month
200GB£2.49/month£2.99/month
2TB£6.99/month£8.99/month

Similar increases have occurred in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Poland, Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Tanzania, South Africa, Colombia, Peru, Brazil. Pricing in the United States, Canada, and European Union remains the same.

All paid iCloud+ storage plans include features like iCloud Private Relay, Hide My Email, and Custom Email Domains.

yeah other stuff outside of apple but just computer related subscriptions. although you could argue I shouldn't count Apple Music as its more entertainment than computer. Either way it all adds up, especially when you add in Netflix and other home video streamers.

Me - 8.99 Icloud
Wife - 8.99 iCloud
1password - 3.99
lightroom - 9.99
Apple Music - Family £14.99
office 365 - 7.99.

I think I'm going to cut Lightroom, Apple Music and maybe just my iCloud 2TB subscription. My wife isn't very tech minded and its prob safer to have her back up to cloud..So with those cuts of mine thats £407 saved a year.

You know you can share one iCloud subscription between all of your family members?

Yes I've seen that but unfortunately we both have large photo libraries.

I don't mind paying for it as it's useful, what annoys me is that I recently moved from the 200GB to 2TB because as a family we are at 205GB now. It took an age to fill that 200GB. So now I have to pay for 2TB most of which we will never use.

Give us a 1TB tier even!

What in the world…?? Delete some stuff. Surely you don’t need 500gb+ w worth of WhatsApp messages?

Maybe the problem isn’t that Apple offers only a 2tb plan but that users have accumulated that much media in their phone. There’s a good chance that the majority of those photos and videos are just sitting there and nobody is viewing them, and they can be safely deleted.

As for the base 5gb tier, it’s clearly meant to nudge users to sign up for at least the 50 gb tier, so it may as well just be 500 mb. Enough for basic syncing of iCloud data, useless for pretty much everything else.
This is unreasonable. I don't even know how to respond to you on this because it just seems like it's a knee jerk defend Apple response

It doesn't make sense to think users accumulate a "wrong" amount of data. We take photos of videos of things we want photo and video of. Personally, I don't want to delete any of my family photos.

How would you know what amount of WhatsApp messages they need? I don't want to delete any of my iCloud messages. Someday I'll want all the messages with my Grandma, for example

Fair point, but surely some of this could be backed up and not need to be on the phone at all times.

Bulgaria, Poland, Sweden and Romania all are. 🤦🏼‍♂️

@MR Sweden, Bulgaria, Romania and Denmark are in the European Union by the way ;) I guess what you mean is "Pricing in the EURO zone remains the same"
I can confirm that the price is unchanged in the eurozone. Today Apple charged me €9.99 for the largest iCloud+ plan.

436382 unread e-mails. I would fall off my chair if my in-boxes would be so crowed. I think you need 6 months to a year to go through them.

Can I have a 10tb option please? 2tb for a family is useless when everyone keeps taking raw photos and 4K videos.

Well, that's steep considering we should be getting 50GB for free.
Why exactly should we get 50gb for free? What entitles us to a free tier in the first place?
Keep in mind that the 5gb free tier is for live, not some limited freebie you get with a purchase.

they didnt? That seems illegal (at least in the EU). They have to send an email at least to inform you about the change and give you the opportunity to cancel. Otherwise staying quiet counts as "accepting" the change but again, they need to inform
And then again they did not increase the price in the EU.

I am in the UK and I received an email to notify me more than one month before the scheduled price increase.

Right! I’ve just moved all my data from the cloud and I’m saving £8.99 a month! I’m a man of principles and old fashioned manual data management 😂

Not easy dealing with some older relatives or some relatives at any age :) . However, if someone can afford to have one or more Apple devices, especially someone who is comfortably middle class, and they balk at paying 79 cents a month to hopefully safeguard their photos and messages, there are bigger issues. But I understand. I use Google 1 for about 20 Euros a year and iCloud for 99 cents a month.
It’s not the problem of the amount. If Apple charges fairly I would not mind paying £9.99 per month for iCloud. The problem is now 50G iCloud is £1 in UK, €1 in eurozone, and $1 in USA ($1.07–1.13 post tax perhaps). I don’t know why UK price is higher than the other two.
I’ve moved my photos to local iPad and my files to Mega and my sync to Dropbox. I’ve closed iCloud and won’t use it until the price is fair here someday.

When you take off VAT the UK price is equivalent to $1.05.

Yes EU price is 0.91 USD pre tax. Do you think 1.05<1=0.91?
Well, I don’t mind paying 0.05 USD more, I’m not miserable enough to keep such money as life long debt. However, why should they be entitled to charge more here?
And, someone mentioned Ukraine above. Very true. It looks like British isles are closer to Russia, and France Germany Italy Belgium Netherlands are on the other land, perhaps now neighbours of Cupertino?
