2TB per year is £108, or $137 USD. A 2TB SSD cost $100 USD (link). An enclosure costs about 20 bucks. Or a basic 2TB HDD external with enclosure is $48 (link).

Why does anyone need this? Makes more sense to just buy an external drive and have it always available at way faster speeds than whatever data connection your limited to.
Three levels of back up. Disk, extra disk, and cloud. The external drives die.

We need more than 4TB, with 4K videos, high res photos, backups and more they need to offer 10TB, 20TB and more plans.
I have over 200,000 photos and videos and right now the 4TB iCloud space is full, I can’t download original photos to my Mac because it gets stuck on downloading originals.

I also have issues moving the latest photos to the Mac directly with USB.

i don’t care if Apple charges more for more iCloud storage but they need to offer more options.

The last time they upgraded icloud storage to 2TB was over 7 years ago.

If Apple is going to increase the prices. Apple needs to offer more iCloud storage.

We need more than 2TB for iCloud storage. It’s simply not enough. Why isn’t Apple offering more iCloud storage?

coz you‘re trapped to their service and
I wonder if it's cheaper to just make a home network drive versus paying for iCloud.
It is cheaper, which is why Apple killed time capsule and dissolved the network hardware team

Apple locks you in and than start raising prices. I don't use iCloud storage, I backup directly to my computer. Safer, faster, and most importantly it's free (Other than your own hardware cost of course but at least that's not recurring).

Good luck backing up multiple devices in family to a computer. Computer drive crashes, it’s gonna be fun.

I tried iCloud for a few months but I'm unsubscribing, not because of the price hike, but because honestly it's kind of useless. Sharing files with people is nearly impossible. If you upload a folder with photos or videos, you can't just get a shareable link so anyone can download it. Either they have to have iCloud themselves, or you have to go through a complicated process of "Share > Collaborate > Anyone with the link" then click "Manage shared file > Generate link" then wait until it uploads... then go back and click "Copy link". Even then you can only share single files, not folders.

With Google Drive you can share files as you like and it just works so much better. You just click on a folder and click "get link", that's it. It's also a bit cheaper actually if you want 100 GB or choose yearly billing.

The only thing iCloud does is back up each and every photo and video you ever took and then run out of space and ask you to upgrade.

Automatically backup my family phones and all our photos and videos plus free phone storage is usage for me.

With the drop of photo stream, then its now more important to have more than 5gb storage. I bet there's a lot of people getting messages now saying their icloud is full. I do wish there was a 1TB tier, I dont think I would ever get to fill that.

Yup, that figures. The price of imported grain from Ukraine has risen quite a lot. Being a key component, t'was only a matter of time before it influences cloud storage prices too.

I think you are all forgetting that Apple is a struggling business that was on the brink of bankruptcy 26 years ago. Show some understanding, please!
What I understand is TC needs to eat his Iranian caviar! 😀

now if you can make this 2TB SSD connect seamlessly to your iPads, macs and iPhones from anywhere in the world with an encrypted connection then you are comparing apples to apples. And not only should it backup your devices, but also settings, photos etc

I know iCloud should not be considered a real backup and 100% guarded against attacks, but for all practical purposes it actually works like this and has served my family as this for years. We do have an extra off line backup that for most critical stuff.

Remember when they would upgrade us to double the storage for the same cost?

Pepperidge Farm remembers.

Apple One Premier should come with 4TB standard. 2TB is not a lot when you have a whole family sharing storage for backups, messages, app data, mail, iCloud Drive and photos/videos across multiple devices per user. Honestly makes me want to buy fewer Apple devices for my kids as they get older when each new device eats up more storage.

No it should be based on the device. If you buy a 256GB iPhone, thats how much icloud space you should get for free.
That would just mean the price of the phone would have to go up. How long would the 256gb iCloud storage last?

Think we might have the possibility of this happening in the fall release?

*sigh*
Oh well… good news for us in the UK once again. /s

I really wish Apple would introduce a tier between 200GB and 2TB.

I have too much for the 200GB and have loads of unused space on my 2TB plan.
Well, it’s better than Dropbox, where the only choices are 2 GB, 2 TB, and multi-user business pricing.

2TB cap is such a pitiful joke in 2023. And the "secret" 4TB max can't be used by those of us who had iTunes accounts before iCloud, and now have two, separate and unmergeable accounts but still pay for Apple One, iCloud+ and otherwise meet the requirements for 4TB.
