i dont know why everyone is just hoping for updates on current products, isnt the idea of something new that we havent thought of yet more intriguing? like the iphone, it was expected - but more exciting that another ipod or mac mini rev

My prediction for the rest of the year:

- New Aluminium MacBook with LED Display and Multi-touch trackpad
- New re-designed MacBook Pro with Quad Core
- New Mac Tablet
- New Cinema Displays, perhaps an new 42" Cinema Display.
- New iPods
- Software becoming Intel-only
- iMac Touch-screen (wildest prediction out of all)
- Maybe Blu-ray option in the Mac Pro
- New Mac Mini or discontinued Mac Mini
- iTunes 8 for the new iPods
- PDA

the mac mini is long over due for a revamp (or retirement). Perhaps we might see something there

New Products yay!

Well, here's what I imagine they'd release.

• New Apple Monitors with built in iSight and Blu-Ray compatibility (FINALLY)
• New MacMini (maybe new design?)
• MacBook Pro new design but not a big deal
• New APPLE product (something fancy? Probably not, we can wish for a new breed thought)
• Hopefully a price cut or adjustments on their iPods
• New Software
•*MacTablet would be a wish come true but probably won't happen
• MacDrive (superdrive available for ALL macs now)
• Upgrades for the MacBooks?

God... does anyone here remember the StyleWriter II? :/

I'm having flashbacks.

Does anyone know why Apple doesn't cash in on their brand? I mean I remember having (still do) some of those Think Different Posters. If they started selling some pins, caps, books etc. I think they'd sell a bundle. Or do they just want their Apple logo on their hardware?

In regards to the "cash in on their brand" comment... At the Apple headquarters, Apple has a "Gift Shop" in which, consists of a GAGGLE, yes a GAGGLE! of Apple Merchandise, such as... Bags, Hats, Shirts, Mugs, Cups, etc... Also, I own a laptop bag with the Apple Logo Embroidered on the front, as well as a Apple Hat, Apple Portfolio, Apple Pen, and Apple Luggage tag. This was given to me through an Apple representative :)

In other words...

The School I will be atttending (Full Sail University) Gives MacBook Pros to all their students as an institutional fee... The school is based on a yearly schedule so my start date is November 24th, 2008.... I just hope the new MacBook Pros are out by then :)

Also, for "NEW" products/product line...

Apple still has not come out with a Camera.

Possibly called like the iClix or iPix or something like that.

A nice touchscreen display with like 10.0 megapixel lens or so.

With Time Capsule integrity so you can go to any hotspot wherever you are in the entire world and just by the movement of a finger your pics will automatically sync to your home Time Capsule.

Also, my parents are getting me a new iPod since my 40 gig 4th gen is full (yeah I have like 60 gigs of music, I collect ha...) anyways, I think maybe a iPod bigger then the 160gig would be nice, since I'm planning on getting the 160 anyways, bigger could always be better lol

Sorry for the long post lol

-Eric

p.s. I hope they don't do a re-vamp of the :apple:TV... I just bought mine a lil under a month ago lol

I'll agree w/ you on everything except the PDA. Why would Apple come out with a PDA?

I concur as well...

I have a Palm Treo 650 on Verizon and I love it! However, If I could I would deff get the iPhone 3g.

But I've discovered people who carried or still do carry two devices (a phone & pda) they get "smart" phones usually when either their pda or phone dies. lol

and besides, the iPod Touch and the iPhone both have pda capabilities... why bother making another device that is just about identical to the iPhone and iPod touch.... seems pointless to me...

Blu-Ray.....oh man, absolute money which I can only hope is put in

Would love that so much

Other companies have touch products, touch screens, and tablets in computers/laptops.

Apple will NOT be first to market with this technology - they will just do it best! I hope they get on this sooner, rather than later!

Microsoft has this great lookin product but the will not get it right.
Microsoft Touch Screen

A cool (looking) on is that Multi-Touch Wall on CNN

Sorry to let u know not made by microsoft. Its made by Perspective Pixel a company founded by former Apple employee Jeff Han. Microsoft uses "surface computing"

apple apple apple

Apple designers can't catch up with these speeds. After first iPhone, Apple wanted to refresh the look of all their products and started to drop off the white color. Steve even said Glass+Aluminum is the new look.

but...

iPhone now drives Apple Truck at 75mph making Ive redesign at a 5 month periods. After macbook air, iPhone took its shape, now the Macbook and Macbook pro's will; and if they will have enough time, iMac might get a face lift. Its great to see such influence over old rules Apple made. Now the white casing is back and Apple might just stretch its limits to few smart choices.

I think the new "shape" is very 2009 and on. Sharp and straight angles are old contemporary look 2001-2005. industry is going GREEN and so design is going the same way. More curves and softer, for the eye, shapes will attract many more users.

This is why :apple: spends so much of our $$$ on research and tests.

Are you kidding me? I'm not a f****in' idiot, I know not everything is going to be already established, but SOME will, and that's what my predictions were.

Sorry na1577, I wasn't responding to you specifically, you were just one of several posts that was talking about general updates that we would normally expect at this time of year. I also wasn't criticising your ideas in any way, just found them not to fit this specific thread.

Then again, we all do that at times.

I, perhaps incorrectly, was focussed on the product transition, how quickly it has to happen and how major it must be to affect their margin so significantly (as was reported).

And haven't you heard of companies exaggerating? Apple loves to do it
That is a VERY valid point.
Apple may not be making as big a move as they imply - AND they have a tradition of painting worse financial expectations than pans out.

Oh sweet.

To be honest the Apple-rumour-mill has been absolutely dead lately, and this is really great and exciting news.

Too bad they couldn't just announce everything at once on a day like today. :p

12am TUESDAY is only half an hour away. *Maybe* there will be something. Doubt it though. Most likely next week.

I'd love to see a tablet laptop; something like a glorified iPod Touch/iPhone that'll allow stylus input - no keyboard etc. So it is like a notepad.

Personally, I'd be amazed if Apple came out with a tablet. I just can't see Apple having styli. Besides, they just came out with the MacBook Air. It's too soon for Apple to come out with ANOTHER line of Portable computing.

However, upgrades and re-vamps of the MacBook and MacBook Pro I can see

Just thought I would throw this out...

Free mobilme for anyone who buys a new mac.

They're already offering discounts with new macs, I doubt they'd just give MobileMe away all the sudden.

Definitely waiting anxiously for this new product. I'm just lusting to have my paradigm shifted at exciting new price points!

Pocket informant is coming to iPhone. DataViz will probably release docs to go. I see no reason to own a PDA anymore.

But yeah, I would be a lot of money that apple doesn't release a standalone PDA, lol

This one came to mind too
https://www.macrumors.com/2008/07/18/apple-prepping-for-notebook-refresh/

The two week timeframe was making me think it was next week. Maybe something. 10 minutes or so and we'll know.

This really is becoming a ritual for me - checking Apple.com every Monday night.
