Personally, I'd be amazed if Apple came out with a tablet. I just can't see Apple having styli. Besides, they just came out with the MacBook Air. It's too soon for Apple to come out with ANOTHER line of Portable computing.

However, upgrades and re-vamps of the MacBook and MacBook Pro I can see

Yeah, no stylus please...

What I dream of having one day is a tablet that uses muti touch in a very advanced way- imagine being able to control programs like Logic just like you would control hardware like mixers. You could actually turn knobs, manipulate sliders, etc.

I need new pants.

I doubt that will happen for at least another year or two, but I can dream!

For now, I am waiting for the MBP refresh.

If there were any updates they would only show up on Apple's store Tuesday morning. That's a historical fact.

I wouldn't wait up on a Monday night if I were you. ;)

Seriously?!?!?!? I always thought they took the store down at 12am Tuesday and brought it back up once they updated the HTML. I've been up till 3 am every Monday night for nothing?!?!?!?

LOL- but seriously, for nothing?

That would be sick nasty!!!!!

ZOMG! lol

store's still up. :-( oh well. next tuesday. however, i have two questions. one on the topic of an aluminum casing for the macbook. i noticed the current plastic macbook gets extremely hot, even while just watching a movie. i was wondering how the current macbook pro's aluminum casing handles heat dissipation. if anyone could tell me about their own experience with how hot an mbp gets i'd appreciate it. also i saw several people say that a new printer rebate is starting after the current one expires. when does this one start and what are the terms? same? thanks!

edit: nvm i'm on eastern time! 3am here i come! haha no. no keynote, no update. not with a major revision like the one we're expecting.

Remember this is not a rumour, they have said there's a product transition that will SUBSTANTIALLY affect margins in this current quarter. Apple wants to get a leg up on competitors.

So
1) it's happening very soon (within one month)
2) it isn't going to be a simple change to area that is already well developed. (edited)
3) it affects a very large number of sales

A lot of predictions here are moving towards what people would like to see and some very plausible and interesting products. But they don't meet the above 3 criterion.

Maybe the most obvious thing would be a new product to replace both Apple TV and Mac Mini, perhaps with increased PVR functionality and perhaps integrated in to TV. That would tick all the boxes.

A major change to the iPod range, laptops or desktops doesn't seem to be necessary as they are either ahead of the competition or selling well in their own right.

I can't believe the lower margin is going to be anything other than a temporary thing while they aggressively target a certain market with a certain product, with the aim of sales eventually going through the roof. I mean, you post record profits / sales then say you've decided to make less profit in the future - that would be crazy. Plus they're probably playing it safe and quoting their worst case financial scenario so they can wow the markets when they make even more money.

I will just say "May you all get what you want." (Man, does it sound like Christmas or what?)

Anyway, I'm hoping for:

1a: A new Mini that is powerful enough to drive a 30" display.

1b: If that doesn't happen by early next year, I'll suck it up and probably end up with the next MacBook Pro that's released so that I can run as quietly and draw as little electricity as possible and still drive a 30".

2: An updated ACD 30" with an iSight. (With the possibility of a 42" running at 3840x2400) since my video card and KVM can drive it. Hopefully they'll maintain the nice look they have now rather than that awful iMac black frame look.

Apple Time Capsule

I noticed that Best Buy has huge discounts on Apple's Time Capsule (AirPort + Hard Drive for "Time Machine"). This is for both the 500GB and 1TB size. These are also out of stock.

So, either Best Buy is trying to get people to shop, or they are clearing the channel of inventory for a product refresh. Perhaps the 1TB will now be the intro size at $299?

As for this article, I can tell you one thing: take a good look at all the routers and external hard drives on the market. There are far too many of them and some will say that they are for streaming media, etc. Well, with Apple's approach, there would be 3 products to choose from and a tremendous amount of them sold ... which means that even if they don't work perfectly out of the box, they will soon be able to work w/o any problems for most. This will be important for the upcoming age of having media in the living room! Nobody wants to mess around too much with getting their media on the TV, etc.

So, ... I feel that Apple's forthcoming "new lines" of product will continue with their strength in media, but more so in the living room. Perhaps Apple has finally figure out a business model for Apple TV?

As for new products in the coming months, Apple finally "got it" last year and starting releasing product PRIOR to two VERY important business cycles for the company: 1. Back to School and 2. Christmas. Traditionally, Apple tried to push their OLD inventory off on these 2 markets, ... then people felt bad about the newer products coming out a month or 2 later. Well, I certainly hope Apple continues to refresh products just prior to Back to School season and Christmas, then refresh software like the OS in January, etc. We hold onto our hardware much longer and hate to purchase new hardware just prior to product refreshes, etc.

We are going to add thousands of posts and threads to this website.

Then, come Sept., on that fateful Tuesday....

Apple will up the CPU Speed and Hard Drive Capacity on the MacPros...

and "That's All, Folks...."

I'm convinced that the amount of time they take the online store down for when there is a major new product release is nothing but showboating. They could switch the products or go with a totally new shop front at the press of a button if they wanted to but they don't - to help draw more attention to it.

Do you really think they shut the store down and then have a team of people working against the clock to make all the changes? More likely there is one person who clicks 'shut down store', then goes for lunch, does a bit of shopping, chats on the phone to their friends, then clicks 'open store' just before going home for the day.

Doesn't discounts in shops normally mean Apple have told them the product is going end of line and they're free to discount them? You don't normally see any discounts on Apple products at other times.

20% is a pretty steep discount for a new Apple product. If Best Buy is ramping up the stores selling Apple gear, selling out online at a discount has to mean new product in the channel soon.

No new wireless standards to worry about, so maybe the pricing is going to come into a better range. Or maybe the white plastic stuff is going away in lieu of the aluminum look like the MBA.

NO, the 13" macbook repplaced the 12" macbook. The air didnt come out till last year, Powerbooks have been gone for like 3 years

For the record, nothing has replaced the 12" Powerbook. Nothing.

Any 12" Powerbook owner out there would agree.

I know I'd happily ditch cable if I could pay Apple $50/month and download all the video and shows I want. Might even take that at $75/month.

What could :apple: possibly throw at us now?

Here's an idea list:

- MacBook Air/MacBook with a Man's Screen (15"/17")
- New MacBook Pro/MacBook Models
- New Online services (Services that could match Windows SkyDrive, Windows Live Spaces, etc.)
- Software Upgrades (Possible updates to iLife, Bootcamp, Mac OS X)
- New Accessories (Keyboard, Mouse, Speakers, etc.)

We'll have too see, :apple: always sup rises us all.. That's what makes :apple: who they are.

So, how does a major non-event release go down? Does Apple always shut down their website at 12 am ET the morning of the release?

I certainly don't claim to have any insider knowledge, but one thing that I would love love LOVE to see would be a 32-40" imac with built in TV applicability, essentially creating the MacTV. And of course, I would really like to have a writable, touch screen tablet; "coming to you next from Apple: the iSlate at the amazingly 'competitive' price of only $15,000!" HA!

I'd love to see a HDTV 1080p AppleTV that could bring down NHL/NFL games with a slight delay.

If they added a legal way to upload movies that I owned so that it could store them instead of me having to get it out, it would be that much better.

I'd pay monthly for that kind of ability.

Grabbing your theme... a television of extreme quality so that it had the resolution to be an amazing desktop display, but also capable of driving game consoles and Blu-Ray players would be insane.

You could integrate an Apple TV into a firmware on it, but make it so you could still plug stuff in if you didn't want to use the Apple TV.

(The reason I won't pay for an iMac: If the display dies, the computer is a hunk of dead screen sitting on your desk as you plug in an external display. If the computer dies, you have a useless LCD display)

Please...no more new products!! My wallet can't take it anymore.

If they release a pro tablet with a pressure sensitive screen like a Cintiq, I just might rob a bank to purchase such a device. Or an Apple store. Or both.
