do you even know what the internal components of a computer are? the inside of a Dell or any other machine is really no different from Apple. You probably think there is a little small hidden city beneath the ocean where little Apple elves assemble Apple products using only Apple parts and each Apple product is sprinkled with pixie dust before it leaves the little hidden city of Apple

Maybe there isn't but my current iMac has lasted 3x longer than any Dell/Gateway desktop that I previously had and my MBP has lasted almost 5x longer than any laptop I owned from Dell

My Apple computers have held up consistently well the last 2 years while my Dell/Gateways broke down almost monthly

No difference in what was put on them software wise either

Well well...obviously I didnt really make a lot of friends with my post :p!
Im not saying I could easily afford a 2000 dollar mac. In fact I am typing this post on my 2.5 year old MBP!
I simply meant that I dont mind paying a lot of money for a great computer.
No need to hate me for that :D!
I just really sort of miss those times...back when Apple was still a little computer company and having a mac was something special.
This is just my personal opinion. So no yelling and screaming at me!
I just like being special:D!

No need to worry Corky we all know your are "special" don't forget to wear your helmet when the short yellow school bus picks you up in the morning.

Apple uses the exact same electronic components as Dell, Sony, Lenova, and others. Many are assembled in the exact same chinese plants.

Dell has its own factory in Malaysia with most components imported from China. I live 70km from it.
It has another factory in China and nothing coming out of this factory has no other label than dell. I visited both of them and they re mighty impressive. It DOES manufacture Built-to-order systems because its range is about 20 times wider and more complex that Apple's, and its business model relies heavily on Corporate orders.

The dell factory is surrounded by 8 massive buildings. All those building house the factories of the components manufacturers (the suppliers). They bill Dell the moment they roll in the parts into the Dell factory..

Most Apple is assembled at flextronics or Foxconn city in China, and a bit of it in Singapore (the mice notably). That s one i d love to visit :)

The components (as in SMC (surface mount components) components - the chips themselves) are probably similar, but most apple board designs and assemblies are VERY proprietary... 95% of it is non-compatible with anything out there. It s all in house.

Simple deduction also is that this very fact makes apple different industrially and probably makes it s margins a bit tighter.
More pressure on the margins is that Apple subcontracts all its production to those suppliers. You d be hard pressed to show me a factory with an apple logo on it in China.
(There are of course factories still around in Canada and Europe, but the Apple Desktop-Laptop production comes from China now)

I wonder how old .Chris is, I'm guessing somewhere in the tween age, could explain his lack of manner.

18 actually. I'm going to be 19 in February. I know there are tons of little kids all over the place and I hate it. I deal with kids every day at my job.

Trust me, i'm nothing compared to what I was 6 years ago.

anyway back on topic

So? What's your point?

no point. You dont have to respond to every one of my posts you know....

the touch AND the iphone is kind of a PDA already. The Apple Newton revisisted, though we may not see the actual newtons features being picked up will may be the 2ed gen of the iphone. (the new iphone is 1.5gen) and who knows, may be in the 2ed gen of the touch

what features of the newton do you deem missing from iphone os 2.0?

in my opinion it's the best pda out there :)

Updated MacBook Air

Hi, When is the updated version of the MacBook Air expected (Sept or Oct or ...?)
Thanks

iphone nano

Hi Guys - what do you think are the chances of an iPhone nano in the september event? should i wait (ugh) or should i just buy my Nokia 6500 Classic? I'm finding a big hard to believe as they are still really pushing the iphone 3g all over the world - tell your thoughts to another helpless apple slave

I guess the product I'd be the most interested in buying from Apple right now is a portable computer the size of a pocketbook, with BT keyboard, monitor output and preferably a touch screen. Since it is a computer, it could be used as an iPod (and iPhone) as well. It would need a monitor output, or a way to dock it into a monitor.

If it would be based on OS X, and not iPhone OSX, it could run all my applications.

Such a product could serve as an all-in-one product and potentially replace the Mac Mini, the MacBook and MacBook Pro, the iPod touch and maybe even the iPhone. If those who want to use an external monitor had to buy an Apple monitor, they would sell more monitors as well.

If it would come in several sizes, it could even replace the iMac line, and with a tuner, it could replace a small TV.

OS X can run Windows as well, so such a product would loads - even to non-Apple users - and of course to all students and other people who don't want to buy several products if they can buy one + to all those of us who'd prefer a portable computer that doesn't need to be carried in a bag (but still can be connected to large monitor when necessary).

A touch screen computer seems so confusing to people, and it makes no sense to those who operate in a static world. The point of a touch screen computer is to BRING THE COMPUTER TO YOU, so you don;t reach out 3 feet to type.

-_-; Is that really so hard to imagine?

They would need to work the screen so it can angle to your needs. That gives the user the most options, along with a sizable keyboard on screen, all of which gives a greater freedom than modern keyboards set for one hand size and very limited angle of approach.

Is he any more pathetic than someone who thinks that spending more money on apple products makes him better than someone else?

I think so.

What can be more pathetic than getting upset over something a person claims is invalid? So, from reactions gauged, there might be something valid about what was said.

The nail makes its loudest sound when hit on the head.

what is it with people and this iphone nano? What can they do to the iphone to make it smaller? just have call features? nothing else? that wont sell.

People NEEd to get off the iphone nano deal as it wont ever happen. just because the ipod got the extra members of the family doesnt mean the iphone will kids....

things that cab be in the next revamp of the iphone or may be te iphone 2.5 or 3.0 software...

plus is "newton" a name you'd hear in the 21st century? I think not.

I haven't filtered through all the pages, but how do you guys feel about a new Mac Mini, or something else I haven't heard of mentioned, new Apple Cinema Displays?

A Mac Mini upgrade is due, and hopefully if there is one it will be like the Pystar OpenMac.

Have Apple sued them yet, BTW? Who won?

Sorry for going a little off-topic.

It was? I don't remember that. They dropped the price on the SSD model but thats it, no updates.

You don't remember because it never happened. The MBA hasn't been updated. I think that it will be updated soon after the MBP and MB are updated.

Apple can't take the hit of lost sales of MBA's that will result when everyone else brings out their Montevina based lightweight portables. Right now the new Sony Vaio Z blows the MBA away. Apple needs to update the MBA to remain relevant.

I wonder if this isn't the year that Apple completely changes their laptop line up. Especially if they bring out a touch tablet.
