The real issue here is the lack of a gamepad, serious all you want, most of these games are either just simple casual or pretty much unplayable, but when you look at the Wii I guess that sells now.

The racing ones are the only one I really think kinda work but still moving the screen and the accelerometers accuracy is sorta hurts the experience in my opinion.

NO. Please. RTS's belong on the computer. Ever played Starcraft 64?

The iPhone is a computer. :p

And having spent far more hours in Fieldrunners than I care to admit, I'm convinced a repurposed StarCraft for iPhone could be both effective and great fun (and a huge sales success).

I completely agree (except the part about the Wii not being able to play "real" games. Brawl is a "real" game). Unless Apple somehow makes some sort of case that can plug into the 30-pin connector that has physical buttons(<----- my idea) on it there is no way it can be a real gaming machine. And battery for games on it fails (maybe 3 hours for a game where not much is going on)... DS lite has a good 14 hours when it's brightness is down all the way (which is close to to 50% brightness of the iPhone.)

You know i wont be surprised but I think Apple will announced there working on a Console System at CES

A console system would be sososo last century. How about instead of seeing Apple be a "me too" choice, they bring games to a tablet?

I don't see why Mac users wanting to game can't just buy a PC and use it strictly as a gaming box. I mean come on, you won't notice the clusterf**ked Registry or UAC when you're in the middle of Half Life 2 on full screen. :D

I'd be all for that... but that's like buying a $1200 game console (and that's a cheep gaming computer). That's kind of a waste of money when you can just get a PS3 and 360 and Wii for $500 less than that...

Build one. That's what I'm doing and it's adding up to about $850 - $950. Ish. :) Not much at all if one can afford to buy several Macs.

The PS3 wins as far as game consoles are concerned. The Wii's graphics are about equal to the Nintendo 64 of thirteen years ago, and the 360.........let's not go there. :D

The only reason to pick up a PC is for Valve's games (which are far from needing demanding hardware) or if you are a fan of the RTS genre. Every other PC game in the last decade has been a port from consoles. It doesn't make sense to build a gaming rig PC for $1000 when you could buy a console with the same games only natively made for them for $300.

Also the PS3 is in last place in the console wars with the least games sold. Power does not equal good. The only exclusives it has that aren't boring or completely unoriginal are Uncharted and Metal Gear Solid.

I had no idea Super Mario Galaxy could be done on the N64. Maybe you need to get your eyes checked.

No interest whatsoever. I simply don't use my Touch as a gaming device, but more as a PDA with lots of music.

I wasn't referring to the "console wars" or sales, ffs. I mean, the PS3's graphics are superior to all others. Played Killzone 2 or Modern Warfare 2?

Keep the sarcasm to yourself. Nearly all Wii games I've seen have poor graphics rendering with "blocky" textures, and objects meant to be perfectly round appear almost hexagonal. This brings the N64 to mind. Obviously it's not the exact same, I was just sayin'.

I have yet to see a single game that lives up to the PSP's graphics, despite people constantly talking up the iPhone/touch's graphic abilities. I know visuals aren't everything, but looking at those two games in the post the visuals still aren't up to scratch. I doubt the PSP version of GTA, for example, would be possible on an iPhone, which is disappointing.

Depends if the developers are targeting the 3G or the 3Gs.... Even the Original iPhone and 3G can display some pretty nice graphics.. Like in the videos Arn posted... But the 3Gs is another thing entirely. Will be nice when we see those features targeted more.

Yes I have actually, Killzone 2 is a mediocre shooter that isn't very impressive and Modern Warfare 2 isn't even exclusive to the PS3, which is why it only runs in 600p. We all know the PS3 is the most powerful, we have all seen the specs.

Well guess what, that isn't the Wii's problem that the games developers make aren't the Wii's maximum output. That's the developers problem. Go look at Brawl, Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3 , Punch Out and Monster Hunter 3 to name a few good looking Wii games. Don't even get me started on the plethora of gorgeous 2D ones. Obviously if you see a bunch of PC games that are made from some crappy developer no matter what the rig you have is it's gonna look awful.

SUPERB.
I think Apple plans to make the iPods competitive gaming devices with Nintendo, Sony, etc. I hope they add buttons for game controls and add graphic accelerators like other handheld gaming devices. Make the iPod the gaming device that all the kids want for Christmas 2010. It's about time. :) :apple:

No interest whatsoever. I simply don't use my Touch as a gaming device, but more as a PDA with lots of music.

But some people do. I use my iPhone as a work and personal device ( mini computer ) with 5 pages of apps and just 3 games. ( Hangman, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and Tap Tap ) My iPod touch has 5 pages of apps and all are games. So, different people have different ways of using their iPods. ;)

You know on the eastern part of the European continent most gamers are pc gamers, and so a lot of the developers there (Creoteam, GSC Gameworld, Deep Shadows) release games exclusively on PC. STALKER is a pc exclusive, is it not?

i think this a great way forward for apple

i couldnt really believe how good the graphics and gaming was until I got 2xl motocross... lets hope they push it further

Lol, and how is that even possible when there is no install base? You can't just say that everyone is a PC gamer. It's not like asking what console you have, or how many sales the PC itself has. If this is some sort of poll then that is just inaccurate as they could see PC gaming as playing some flash game on the internet. As for those three developers, i've never heard of them and neither have I heard of this STALKER exclusive on any of the mainstream gaming sites I visit. Most likely because I don't live in Europe, but if a game can only reach the European market then it's essentially a bomb and a waste of time for the developers to even shell out cash making the game unless they are all cheap frills with no bells and whistles.

After waiting seven years for Apple to get games on OS X I finally switched back to Windows since I love PC gaming. It would be nice if Apple took computer gaming as seriously as iPhone/iPod gaming. If they ever decide to encourage games developers to release games the same day as Windows releases I'd move back to using OS X as my primary OS.
They can. Very easy to do but the problem is and will always be, if you have a good, great gaming machine by Apple, you also have a device that will run their Pro Apps and oddly, Apple assumes they will lose money as the Pros, 2~3%, would buy the cheaper alternative, and their right, we would but so woudnt the gamers (who make up more sales then video sales and music sales combined), as well as the millions of ProSumers who don't really have the cash for a server made desktop l, but do have the talent, nit to mention all the studios that had mac pros would also buy these non existent devices for their smaller rooms. In a nutshell, Apple would MAKE money not lose money due to lack of sales but they can't seem to figure that out yet.

Avid/Digidesing did!!!! They saw people were no longer buying their $$10,000 TDM (processing chips in a card, thus reducing CPU latency which you cannot have in music), and saw computers were getting faster and faster and more core on a single dye were happening, so they purchased M-Audio which relies on the cpu only. In music it's caled native recording vs TDM. In fact, for the mac pro, for those left with the express slot, now only the 17", you can purchase something similar that puts all the processing on the card that goes into the express slot. Google. UAD laptop express card and you'll see what I mean.

Anyway, Apple can do it but won't as I said earlier great grahics normally mean it can run pro apps and they don't really want that and rather have you buy the mac pro when in fact they would make so much more anyway.

Check it out. Let's pretend apple released a $1000 i7 core with a great graphics card, 1088 FSB, normal memory, headless and in the future you could swap the CPU out.
You would have thousands of gamers buy them.
You would have millions of musicians buy them and buy their own ram after market, similar to gamers.
You would have everyone that is tired if windows but has nice HDMI DVI diplays buy them.
You would have the more semi pro photographer buy them.
You would have most all semi pro video users buy these.
And ironically, all the pros apple were afaraid they would lose sale to, would buy these instead if the pc rendering farms as well as place them in their smaller studios, so it not a matter of how come, it more like theirnare misguided somehow. I mean their really only care about the iPhone now, one to one and pro care used to be one program. Now it's seperated and most of the training used to be pro apps, and is now iLife and $99 each. So why not go ahead and build them. There is a huge market out there. The only problem I would see is people would want their own video card at new egg or Frys pricing and apple would have to start supporting numerous cards but all the companies are gone and there's only nvidia and ati, so that wouldn't be that big of a deal and it would for sure, put a dent in the hacntosh.

There are millions of users waiting. Just take a page from what digidesign did.
They would have 20% of the marketshare within a year and to top it off, it would increase the sales of iMacs as business and enterprise started off with these mid range machines. 30% in less than 5 years. Is it really so hard to understand Apple?

Peace all.

Gaming will be so much better on the iPhone/iPod Touch if someone or Apple would develop a gamepad! It can slide onto the device like a case and plug into the docking port. The touchscreen is fun, and can add some playability to the game, but more often than not, it takes away from the game. So PLEASE, someone make a gamepad.

Even more serious about gaming? Is this even possible? The ipod touch is now "AN AWESOME GAMING DEVICE IN THE PALM OF YOUR HAND!!! that also plays music."

Not sure how od some of you are but I remeber some hand hrkds that used like led lines and stuff for exampele, football, although hazy, then came all the hand helds. They never dud anything for me but take unreal on a PC or X-plane for the mac plus, I think certain games belong on a pc or mac although I do hear that psp graphics are awesome.
Anyway, the point of this post is the iPhone is one of the coolest devices I have ever seen. It just blows my mind sometimes. I Aldo wonder though if the Microsoft Courier will be real, if so, that could be very iCal, PDA, cloud computing too but who will want to drag around an iPhone, courier, itablet all the time. Oh and a laptop? Yikes.

Hi. Hello. Haven't looked at consoles in a loooong time. Which today, have the best graphics? Like a FPS war game where the men look real and what does the future hold for consoles? i.e. What's coming out in the next year or so.

I'm still waiting fir the day where games look like animations from pixar.

Cheers.

Are you kidding me?!?!?!?! Personally I think Apple products are just amazing, after owning many ipods computers and such, I have respect for them. But gaming? They refuse to work with hardly anyone when it comes to gaming on OS X. I know Mac Ports can be expensive, but Apple if they are even remotely serious about gaming need to push, if not also subsidise some of these developers. I have long waited to play half life 2 on mac, and hope by the time hl 3 comes out (which apparently will according to valve) it will be on mac. geez the only reason i have windows installed on my macs is because of steam games.:(

Same here! I only play steam games, but if steam worked on the mac I wouldn't really have a need for windows at all.

The most powerful is definitely the PS3 with it's superior processor and graphics capabilities (as well as how much data can be stored on a disk), however, the PS3 will rarely be using all of its components unless it's an exclusive game only for that console as multi-platform developers do not bother to make the game look any better than it does on the Xbox 360. The 360 has a better online infrastructure but you have to pay for it while the PS3 has free online.

Either way the consoles differences are still noticeable. You get true 1080p on the PS3 while you get an upscaled 1080p on the 360. Both of their game libraries are very similar, but if all you are looking for is graphics, then the PS3 is definitely the superior choice as you will see an increase in graphical fidelity over the 360 with exclusive content such as Uncharted 2 and Metal Gear Solid 4(a game that would supposedly take up around 15 disks if it was on the 360).

Bottom line is, if you want better looking games, go with the PS3. If you want a more connected experience with users then go with the 360. Neither one of them are really all that different when it comes to multi-platform games so I suggest looking into their exclusives and which you would rather be playing.

As for the future of gaming, Sony is going to stick with their PS3 for what I presume a span of two console wars (this one then the next wave of consoles) while they add the Playstation Wand controllers into the fray for their motion control (Basically the same thing as Wii Remotes only more accurate because they are tracked by a camera). Sony has no reason to upgrade and I doubt they can even do it financially. Microsoft is going to try and stick the 360 up for a couple more years when "Project Natal" comes out, which is basically their version of motion control via a camera like system, but there are already rumors of ATI making the graphics card for their next console. As for Nintendo, well it's pretty clear that every other company took their blue ocean strategy and turned it into a red ocean. I think they will keep on trucking with the Wii until 2011 when their rumored 1080p blu-ray successor console is released but they are clearly going to take some heat from all of this motion control competition and I think they are fully aware of it. Nintendo succeeds, everyone copies... only thing is they are now they are sitting on a huge mountain of cash and spending more and more on R&D than ever before so I think you are going to see some pretty big leaps and bounds in Nintendo's next console.
