Sucks for him, but I don't see how he has a case given that it's outside of the warranty period.

It seems like you don't see much. A computer for that much amount of money should hold up more than 18 month. Consumers law in Sweden gives 3 years of warranty. It's sick that countries like US doesn't protect from multi billions companies like apple making fortune by selling computes that doesn't hold for as long as 18 month.

Don't give that warranty speech. it doesn't hold up with a product priced like apple computes.

I think I remember reading that we have certain expectations of certain goods depending on their price here in the US. Like if you buy a refridgerator for $3000, and it craps out on you after 5 years, you can still get it repaired at the manufacturer's cost even if it beyond its normal warranty coverage. The reason for that is you expect a fridge to last a certain amount of time, and you paid a large amount of money with this in mind. Since the product didn't live up to your expectations, you can get it repaired. Though you do have to prove the defect is the fault of the machine itself, and not due to something you did.

I've never had to deal with it myself, so I can't call it out by name, but it's probably something covered under implied warranties or lemon laws. It may be warranty of merchantability, but I think that only applies for a short period of time.

That is how it works in Sweden. All electronics has 3 years life expectation. But the proof burden lies on me to prove that i didn't cause it, and it is an factory defect. So with that in mind i will buy AppleCare because then the proof burden lies at apple. They must prove that i caused the problem to be free from doing a repair.

When will we win?? My 2011 iMac just went dark on one side as well!! Anyone know how long these things take?
