Apple Hit With More Class Action Lawsuits Over Delayed Siri Features in U.S. and Canada

Based on info from the previous MacRumors article, these lawsuits are entirely warranted:

“The report claims that the demo of ‌Apple Intelligence‌'s most impressive features at WWDC 2024, such as where ‌Siri‌ accesses a user's emails to find real-time flight data and provides a reminder about lunch plans using messages and plots a route in maps, was effectively fictitious. The demo apparently came as a surprise to members of the ‌Siri‌ team, who had never seen working versions of the capabilities.”

That’s not even a beta. That’s scam-level tactics used to sell a product with fictitious features.
So a paywalled report, what if there is any accurate information in the report is the result of breach of employment contract, is used as a basis to ascertain the lawsuits are warranted?

Apple tried so hard to appease shareholders with barefoot PR tricks that they got sued. Was it worth it? I doubt. Back in the days Apple was always a laggard in terms of feature rollout, but they haven’t been making empty promises so often in their ads.

On the other hand, I don’t really care about Siri because I have two best in my opinion models on my phone already – Poe (which provides access to every existing AI tool) and Grok. To be honest, having AI is not much of a big deal to me and I would have not really used it if only Google search was still usable for doing manual research

You can't tattoo "beta" on your forehead and go on a murderous rampage without consequences. I guess if beta is Apples's defense, part of the suit will be to test how much they can get away with using that excuse.
Well this is certainly an apt analogy. /s

I’m hoping they can get away with a lot. Because if not it could have unintended negative repercussions in the tech industry. The question will be imo, did they intentionally mislead or was this unintended.

It might not have been the main selling point for most customers, but it was the main selling point of Apple's marketing, which is the big issue. If you're advertising a feature that doesn't exist when you buy the device, it's false advertising. They really shouldn't have been advertising Apple Intelligence at all until the 18.1 update dropped imo. The device was in stores for over a month without any Apple Intelligence features.
Right, and I said this in my original post. :)

Bella Ramsey is now realizing that running around blasting zombies with Pedro Pascal was actually the easier gig in the long run! 🧟💥

What is the name of this product in my hand? Oh, it is an iPhone. I just tried and it both made and received calls. Looks like it does the primary function that is in the name plus has my contacts are conveniently accessible.

Every other "feature" beyond communication has been added to that functional device and not all worked as initially advertised. The basic camera has evolved enough to be able to make movies which was not an original goal. Recent models have emergency satellite connectivity which was not an initial goal.

There is more computing power in my iPhone 16 Pro Max than in all of the computers used to put a man on the moon.

If I lower my expectations to zero, I never get disappointed. I have been in the computer world since punch cards. I cannot remember how many great ideas have been tried and failed miserably when the product was given to consumers to test in ways they builder never even considered.

So if a person wants AI, go home and get on that multi thousand dollar computer in the house or office and get the result. AI is unproven technology and I sure as heck do not want to have to rely on it to save my life at this point in time.

That's all fine -- but has nothing to do with blatantly false advertising from Apple.

Good. From the other article just below this one on the front page

I've been pretty annoyed at the longer Apple cycles and slow updates on Mac Pro line hardware and proper software updates the last few years, but these suits are ... pathetic. Lawsuits should be for when actual injuries or material losses occur, not when the 4,000th feature of a smartphone isn't quite as good as someone expected, especially when everyone knew and understood AI was the rapidly evolving hot new "thing" that would be changing every few months and disrupting thousands of industries and markets.

Frivolous cases hurt everyone. It wastes the time of the courts and citizens, raises prices on honest consumers, it prevents Apple from investing in new R&D, and hurts workers all around the globe who won't get raises because more money than necessary is getting pumped into international attorney fees. Lame. Gross. In this particular set of cases, I hope Apple routes them.
I don’t agree. Apple AI was the headline selling point for the iPhone 16 even though they knew it didn’t work. That is dishonest.

These lawsuits are a money making racket but they do hopefully keep companies honest about claims made in their advertising.

I think if/when Apple will solve the issue, they definitely should rename it to something different. "Siri" name already got a lousy glory.
I would rather see them replace Siri altogether with something that actually works from day one.

All of these lawsuits are gonna end up combined. There will be a settlement, but each member of the class will get $1.25 while the attorneys get $100m.

Likely true. Personally, I'd love to see Congress get involved in some legal reforms to the payouts of class action suits. As it currently stands, it's incredibly unfair and imbalanced for the plaintiffs, with the attorneys taking far too much of a cut.
