seriously guys, i'm pretty sure that Apple will recall all the iphone 4 sold so far

because customers around the world are upset, carriers are worried about their sales and an update of IOS to 4.1 trying to solve a bad conception would be a disaster for the image of the company

of course, i would cost nearly $2 billions but Apple would save its face instead of neglecting millions of existing customers and millions of future customers...

I just called AT&T and you are correct. Wow! The CSR did tell me I have until the 16th to return my phone. I smell a class action lawsuit against AT&T!

As I said earlier, that is absolutely disgusting. How that is legal is beyond me. I'll forward the story to Engadget/Gizmodo and hopefully they'll get it out there. This in now way, shape or form should be the case.

I would like to complement you on your returning and admitting that I wasn't spouting 'BS'. It is a rare individual in internet forums that actually cares what's true or not.

(how many times people bitched at me for saying the iP4 has a 99+% signal drop when held normally, I explain to them that's what a 20 dB drop means, and they just never return. No 'oh, I didn't realize that', 'sorry I didn't know that' nada. )

But it works with a case pretty much, shoot even the Ghost Armor I applied makes it now work at home when it didn't before. I mean the solution is obvious - fix the phone, let anyone that absolutely has to have it exchange for it, let those that will keep the old one have $100 in store credit to spend as they will. Chump change for turning rioting villagers into happy campers and making this PR disaster go away.

Thanks for the reply. I think it is important at this point that everyone understands AT&Ts position about contract cancellation. What is interesting is that the term "activation" is not defined in AT&Ts own documents.

Yeah, that was cool of him. So in reality, the return window ends today for launchers. Conveniently Apple's conference is the day after. They had better extend the return window because they dragged ass in responding to the issue.

Well I ordered very early on the 15th and was told the 14th. Since their system went down the difference might be that many were actually processed in the next couple days, giving different 'activation' dates.

I read that if Apple were thinking of a recall, every day they wait would cost them roughly $200 million.

Where did you read such a crazy thing?

Wherever it was stop reading things from such a place as that is ridiculous.

By the way there is little chance of a recall, I suspect.

I think the return window ended yesterday (14th) for many. I was told that even though I ordered on the 14th, my order wasn't processed until the 16th -- whatever that means.

The headline for the press conference seems to be "It's showtime!".

So either the conference isn't about the iPhone 4 at all or Jobs will show 10 methods how to hold it correctly...

:D

Voluntary recall for people having a flap about this overblown issue.

I hope they come out and say:

Anyone who continues to have a problem with their iPhone 4 reception, please return your iPhone 4 for a full refund.

That would be my dream press conference tomorrow.

Not to mention the fact that I hold the phone in my left hand all the ****ing time. Am I the only righty on the planet that *gasp* dares to hold anything in their left hand? Am I the only one who's had the radical idea of writing while on the phone?

I'm with you man...can't understand this righty-right hand deal...wtf? i want my predominant hand to do the fine-tuned touchscreen motions while I hold in my left hand...

we recognize the problems our early adopters experience. we therefore offer free…

So I haven't been following this as close lately, so this may have already been discovered...

But the only way this situation happens for me is if I'm on 3G and wifi. Then, I can watch the bars drop.

Haha, NICE! :D Don't forget... "This changes everything, AGAIN!" :p

Let's hope that there is a real fix or recall for the antenna problem.

I have never known Apple to ever hold a press conference. It is pretty obvious to me that this will be a well strategized solution. They probably have modified all phones being made and will either fix or replace those already sold, but also explain the real science and how all the blogs are wrong and how much people love their iPhones etc.

-Steve: "...The iPhone 4 is the best phone yet, but we wanna make it EVEN BETTER..." ;)

All I know is, if there is a modification I WANT A NEW PHONE NOT A FIX! I don't want my phones value to go down because it was just one that was "fixed" versus being the real deal when I go to resell it next time I upgrade!

Now, what am I going to do without a phone till they send me a new one? Hopefully they would just ship me a new one with a box to send the "old" one back so I'm not without a phone for a couple weeks!

preparing myself for a conference full of more fail....

....will be hilarious if Jobs demonstrates to the press the proper way to hold the phone ;)

Haha, that would be pretty hilarious, but refer to my comment above!

Now Steve, DON'T FORGET TO FIX THE PROXIMITY SENSOR TOO! Hopefully that isn't hardware related and will be fixed in 4.0.1!

If anything it should be lefties that hold it in their right. Being right handed makes sense to hold the phone in your left. You dial with your right. Make selections with your right. Jot down notes with right when on the phone. It's a stupid arguement and anybody that makes it is a left handed ginger.

Some of you guys really hack me off!

I admit that the press is going to town with apple over the signal issue, but thats not to say it isnt true or happening on some of the iphone4's.

If you are lucky enough to have a good phone and live in a good signal area, then I for one am very happy for you. But if you live in a poor reception area or travel and may enter into a poor reception area then it is a very real issue.

Now you could hold it in a different way or as suggested buy a case. But you do not buy a brand new car and spray it a different colour the next day. You do not buy a brand new house and reclad the outside to make you living in it feel better.

This is a phone, and before a better screen or extra features they have to get the basics right. The only reason why so many people have gone on about this is due to the fact that apple have burried their heads. People are waiting for apple to bring a resolve to this issue but I bet people are not as much in a hurry when the iphone 5 comes out or at least wont sell their mobiles as fast on ebay. Every day this so called "non issue" goes on apple will loose faith from alot of people... and not just the ones who post here. Apples reputation is one of its key selling points..

So.. some have the issue and have a right to complain, some do not have the issues for what ever reason and they have the right to say so... but dont go telling people its a non issue... when clearly it is!!

And before you ding dong back... with some useless dribble... I have an iphone 4, it doesnt always suffer the drop but in selected areas it does I will wait like many to see what apple suggest before I rant how good or bad apple are... after all its not just about the fault now... its how they resolve it!

This is so simple: get a case, or return your phone for a fill refund. End of story! You don't really want to do that, though, you really just want to piss and moan about Apple.

Seriously, everyone needs to **** with the "durr just return it if you don't like it, enjoy your android phone! Hur hur hurr"

My god, my brain hurts trying to understand the people that say that. Is it possible for someone to be so void of any intelligence?!

My phone isn't affected by the signal drop because I live in a good signal area, but I'm not going to stick my fingers in my ears and sing show tunes and ignore that there IS a problem. If I was affected by it, then of course I'm going to complain to Apple to do something about it! Quit acting like Apple is this holy company that can do no wrong, and no one can complain to!

This isn't a problem with a personal preference of the phone. It's not like people are complaining about the UI, or that the camera isn't 8 megapixels. Only then would the people saying to return it be right. But they're not, they're complaining about the main function of the iPhone, the phone! Quit saying return it if you don't like it. NO, because people don't want an Android phone, they want the iPhone, and they have the right to buy the phone they want and be able to make calls holding it however they want without a case! If I buy a new BMW and it shuts off whenever I grab the steering wheel in a certain way, I'm gonna want BMW to do something about it. Or if I use satelite TV and I lose my TV signal because I hold the remote the wrong way. Only idiots would say "Well, if you don't like it, return it and get a Chevy" or "Quit hating on Dish, get cable if it bothers you so much"

Jesus, I never thought so many people in this forum were mindless drones that refuse to believe apple does anything wrong. You guys would line up to throw yourselves off a cliff if apple told you the most amazing product they will ever make is so unbelievable that you can only experience it by killing yourself and buying it heaven.

I agree with the first post I quoted 110% It's good to see that at least SOME people here havnt had their brains carved out of their head by Apple.

My god, my brain hurts trying to understand the people that say that. Is it possible for someone to be so void of any intelligence?!

I've tried to understand that myself. Basically, what's going on is that many people who post here have somehow managed to tie their self-esteem to the reputation and well-being of a corporation that could not care less about their individual existence. It's weird.

the reason it is hosted on Friday is to avoid the work day because they know they're gonna get a lot of scrutiny from the press and the buyers. so to avoid more chaos. they chose friday.

Apple just released iOS 4.0.1 to address signal bar issue. So how many still think there's going to be a recall? ;)
