If somehow they do release the next iphone with the same design and form factor as the 3G/3GS, I would say that I'd probably jump ship but who am I kidding...I have too much invested in iTunes!

To my knowledge, any Android-based smartphone can't sync with iTunes, correct? If this is true, looks like I'm stuck with the new iPhone- refreshed design or not

A) Why would you invest in DRM'd music? Use Amazon!
B) Strip the DRM from your existing music
C) Yes, doubleTwist

Apple abandoned DRM a couple of years ago, yes?

Sure, but I would read "investment in iTunes" as having music that is DRM'd, so most likely before Apple switched off.

But on top of that, iTunes uses that stupid AAC format which just makes it annoying if you want to use your music on non-Apple devices (like an Android phone).

iTunes will not sync with Android phones.

That does not prevent other people from examining and processing the existing iTunes folder structure and generating their own sync libraries and caches.

That's what RIM BlackBerry does; an auxiliary app looks at the iTunes folder structure and analyzes. That's what Palm Pre did not do and got in trouble for.

Why would Apple want to treat Verizon/Sprint's customers like second-class citizens? That's not very nice. Plus, Verizon and Sprint subscribers' dollars are just as green as those of AT&T's customers.
This is purely speculation on my part:
  • The contract allows Apple to release older designs after a certain time period. However, new designs must be exclusive to AT&T. This would allow for Verizon and Sprint to get an older design of the iPhone, while AT&T still reaps the benefits of having the latest iPhone.

Verizon's advertisements of the droid were very derogatory towards the iPhone. I'd imagine that Apple would think that's not very nice. Whether it has any bearing on Verizon getting the iPhone remains to be seen.

How is it that people STILL think that Apple leaked these on purpose? For one, Apple doesn't even conduct focus groups on new products- isn't it clear by now that Apple alone dictates what it's products look like and do, not marketing or focus groups? I believe it's been documented pretty well in exlusive interviews and reports, not just rumors. Second, if Apple purposely leaked the Gizmodo iPhone, then they wouldn't have prompted a criminal investigation, as that would get them in some hot water legally.

Even autmobile manufacturers don't use the public feedback on sightings of it's development cars. If a car company has cars driving around in nearly finished bodywork, they aren't just testing how it looks, they're well into starting production and are fine tuning the underpinnings. Car shows are where car companies guage public opinion on new designs, with concept cars, not on late-development mules.

Seeing as though you're "totally convinced" that this is a marketing survey of some sort, I don't think that I'm going to convince you otherwise. There isn't some grand scheme here to test public opinion.

However, I do have several millions of dollars that I need to deposit into a bank account notlocated in my home state, to avoid some taxes. Perhaps I can convince you to message me your name, SS#, and bank account number so that I may deposit the money in your account for a short time. In return, I'll give you 25% of the balance!

a friend of mine knows the dude that found the prototype phone. guess what, not a controlled leak. he contacted apple 17 times to get the phone back to them. no go.

However tired the iPod Touch and iPhone designs may be, I expect the iPod Touch to gain a camera on the expense of keeping its case either similar to the current one or to the iPhone's.

Alternatively, the old iPhone design survives in a cheaper iPhone, aimed for more budget-conscious markets.

I could a slimmed down version, say 3" screen of same res that keeps the curves appealing to markets with smaller hands. Plus if that could be made cheaper then then it might have some really big markets. Which is why I don't think that model will be sold much outside of China.

What? Android doesn't sync with iTunes?

That's annoying if true. My Nokia E71 does that just fine, even wirelessly, unlike the iPhone.

The old iPhone design isn't a cheap design. There's lots of silicon in there and an expensive screen.

I'd be surprised if there isn't an iPhone Nano this year though based on a cost reduced SOC that is essentially the current iPhone specs.

It'd still come in way more expensive than the cheapest Nokias and knowing Apple, more expensive than Android based HTCs. Symbian requires much less powerful hardware than UNIX based OSs and Nokia and HTC operate on much slimmer margins than Apple likes.

With all the Android hype and "sexy" new devices, this would be the dumbest thing :apple: could do

android sexy new devices, as in Dell Streak? get out of here :D

I called this a while ago. This is Steve's revenge phone. Because of the leak, no new design this year.

Thank Gizmodo

What if Apple HAS production issues with the new IPhone design and this piece of information is a controlled leak to get everyone used to see the old design on June 7th ?

i doubt that, i don't think apple can pull it of to present the new iPhone 3GS2 in june.
They might however drop the 3G, replace the 3GS by the N91 iPhone 3GS2 specs and delay the 4G for when it is realy ready.

looking forward to it...

I still have a deep down fear that we will may end up with pretty much the same design as the 3G/3Gs. Maybe why Apple was so mad the prototype was lost. That it was for the NEXT revision not the one in June this year.

It seems too far complete for that to be true.

Too bad for him that isn't what he told the detective. Apparently, he did not try that hard, according to the report.

Why is everyone upset that Apple brought charges against the douche that sold the phone to Jizmodo? He wasn't in it for anything other than financial gaines and his actions pretty much reflect exactly that. Apple had every right to go after their prototype.

And no, I'm not a fanboy.

My only wish

Would be if they would had figured out how to light up the apple icon on the back of the phone, while you are on a call

high res screen?

i know it wasnt exactly 3 inches. im sorry i dont know the exact size. but that wasnt the point. my point was that the new screen is smaller than the old one. even if its just by a fraction. why would you make it smaller? it just doesnt make sense. i cant remember any phone upgrade that included a smaller screen even if its hardly noticeable. just sayin...

I get what you mean, i think it's something to do with the new high res screen that's been speculated about? maybe it cant be produced at exactly the same size as previous models and they didn't want to go any bigger? just a thought.

Peace :apple:

No OLED? :( That's disappointing. My coworker has a Nexus One, and compared to that, my 3GS has a dull display. Not only in terms of resoltuion (that is supposed to be fixed in this release), but its contrast ratio and black level makes my iPhone's LCD display look very outdated. Nevertheless, i still prefer iPhone over Android. :)

If Apple truly won't show any new designed iPhone due to the prototype leak issue, that's what we would get for being sneaky I guess.
If so: Hate Gizmodo !

I like when Apple shows new products, if there's no surprise, it's lame. Thanks a bunch Gizmodo, 'hope your proud of it !

Yep, that's how the world of business works: childish games.

Apple wouldn't do that. It would cost them and their stockholders too much money. The 3Gs design is nothing more than a fallback plan in case something major falls through with the new design.

Why must new designs be exclusive to AT&T? The rest of the world gets the same model. Again, this smacks of elitism.

If Apple was that mad at Verizon, they probably wouldn't get the iPhone at all. Far more other companies have behaved in a nasty manner to Apple. If Apple punished all of them, Apple would have no one left to partner with.

If Verizon will agree to Apple's terms, Verizon will get the iPhone. If they don't, they won't.

This is business.
