If the new iPhone is really the 3GS like model, I will definitely get the iPad. I do not know what to do if the new iPhone is like the one Gizmodo had....

MOST iphone customers have no idea there is anything scheduled for june..

Well, they didn't know about until the stories about the Apple Storm Troopers breaking down reporter's doors hit the news.

If Apple had ignored the Gizmodo report, few people would have heard about it and many of them would believe that it was a fake or a plant.

Dear god... Why is it THAT hard to mass produce a Verizon-compatible iPhone? I really hate my old Blackberry Storm, and I don't want to leave Verizon due to their fantastic coverage in my area. I don't really care about voice and data simultaneously; I just want to have the best phone on the best network for me.

Haha, it's not that hard. What's hard is getting 2 hard-headed CEOs to come to an agreement.

It's a psychological human reaction. The people who have the old design have to justify buying the new one to themselves, so all of a sudden the old design is no longer hip, it's now tired.

If the new design were switched with the old one, and people were currently upgrading from the "new" to the "old", people would probably say the same thing.

I don't think anyone is saying the design of the current phone is bad they are saying it is tired! I think it is. The new design is, well, NEW! If you like the 3g/3gs design then keep it. I am glad they have done more with the new phone than simply upgrade the OS and add a few hardware features. I don't hate my 3G design at all. I love it, but seeing how my contract is up for upgrade I am happy I'll be getting much more than the above mentioned things.

I can't believe there are fools out there that still think this was an intentional leak. The Sheriff and REACT don't break into people's houses over a controlled leak.

There are a bunch of groups and attorneys that have an almost blood feud with Apple and this is going to be a field day for them. I wouldn't not be surprised to see if some are Pro Bono just to be on the legal team.

I am sure the investigation and court orders will break the Apple corporate confidentiality. Then we will see who, if anyone, intentionally leaked this prototype iPhone and if it was condoned by senior management.

My prediction is that the inquiry will get very deep and Apple will ask for charges to be dismissed. Everyone walks home and everyone claims victory in some manner.

alright, this is complete hyperbole.

the number of people that know / care about the prototype are NOT responsibly for MILLIONS of dollars in lost revenue. your numbers are complete nonsense.

the vast, vast, VAST majority of people who were buying iphones the last few months don't know or care anything about the prototype, or the new version, or anything like that. YOU do because you read RUMORS sites. see how that works?

my girlfriend's mom just bought her an iphone. they have no idea about a new version, much less the "prototype" stuff. they are very typical of the VAST MAJORITY of iphone buyers... ie. regular, stupid consumers. they wanted the phone, they bought the phone. there is no research happening.

so calm down on the "lost millions" ... it's just total nonsense.

He may be off a lil with the numbers but he is still correct. Many people know about what happened. People know about it that I didn't think even cared. They know I love Apple and they came to me telling me like I would be happy . . :D . . . .

Ok, forget the whole police thing, it is COMPLETELY against Apple's corporate culture.

The story is plausible, even believable. I don't understand why anybody would ever think it was an intentional leak.

Wait, are those black helicopters I see out your window?!?

Can you see the Apple logo on them? (It's black too...)

If it's 2011, then it may not be a CDMA iPhone at all.

Verizon now claims it will have its first LTE handsets on sale at the end of this year. With a mid-2011 launch date, it won't need CDMA at all for use in most markets in the US.

Infineon's LTE chipset also supports HSPA+, allowing top performance on T-Mobile's 21Mbit network as well as AT&T.

Sprint can't launch LTE until 2012 due to contractual obligations to keep its network on WiMax until November 2011. The system Sprint is migrating to is launching TD-LTE, which I think requires a different chipset to the Infineon referred to above.

Even an LTE phone will still be CDMA for the voice side.

iphone 4g

i think that they have something better up their sleeve, and they was just trying to throw everyone off of what they were doing with these random found iphone 4g's.:D

No, Verizon specifies their IMS-based OneVoice specification must be used on all LTE handsets. They do not allow CDMA-CSFB as you say.

I would assume that apple will also support VoLGA on the device for some other LTE networks.

Then how do you expect them to have voice support throught their network since these services will have a very limited availability?

Perhaps there's a fallback strategy to use CDMA if there are no LTE towers within range?

</sarcasm> (not directed at you, Geckotek)

"Verizon’s CDMA network will stay in place at least until 2018 or 2020."

ps: I love geckos, except when they crawl across your face in the middle of the night. Lizards on the walls and ceilings - good. Lizards in the bed - ick.

If they stick with the old design, i don't even want one. I've been looking forward to this new design since it was leaked. I liked the old 3G/3GS design until i saw the new one. The flat back is sexy!

Okay, what we need is a good old fashioned survey…

If Apple doesn't change the case design of the iPhone with this release, I'm going to:

  • Cry.
  • Throw a huge tanty.
  • Take an angle grinder to my 3GS to take off those nasty and outdated curved edges.
  • Email Steve Jobs personally and tell him how emotionally scarring this is to me.
  • Buy an inferior Android OS phone to send a clear message to Apple that I'm not happy. Email Steve Jobs personally, just in case.
  • All of the above.
  • Make an intelligent and informed purchase decision based on the benefits offered by the new phone over my current phone.

Possible an orchestrated leak?

Initially after hearing this, I was understandably pissed. Who wasn't looking forward to a nice camera, front camera, beautiful (and overdue) design refresh, and super duper display? In fact, my initial reaction went something like this:
You're f**king kidding me! I was so excited for the new industrial design and new features! This was the release I was waiting for!! If Apple goes with Plan B... I don't know. F**k. I really wanted that phone. I'm still hopeful though... But Apple does get extremely pissed over leaks, so I might be angry June 7th.
However, now I'm wondering about the unlikely possibility that Apple is doing this purposefully to gauge public opinion of the new design. Unlikely, considering it was DigiTimes who posted this, but Apple's sphere can reach far and wide. I'm hoping either this is the case or they don't go with this backup, or I WILL be angry. This is going to be my first iPhone and I was so looking forward to this design.

Anyone else thinking the same think?

@kalsta - definitely F for me!

G: Make an intelligent and informed purchase decision based on the benefits offered by the new phone over my current phone.

G - stick with my current 2 year old Verizon phone, which is a very good telephone (coverage, voice quality, contact list, camera, video, ...). It's also OK at web browsing - and I've never needed to talk and browse at the same time. The GPS built into the car (and my handheld GPS for hiking and traveling) means that I'm not missing a GPS in the phone.

I'm not so insecure that I need to have the latest, shiniest Igadget. I want a telephone that reliably receives and sends voice calls. (Something that AT&T doesn't seem to be able to pull off in the Bay Area.)

Apple does not use focus groups, take surveys, design by committee, nor collect ballots on who the next homecoming queen is gonna be, and they certainly don't care about the opinions of a handful of fanboys on some Apple rumor website.

Steve says that WWDC will not disappoint. If they released a rehash of the same design they've had for three years, don't you think that would disappoint?

You are concocting scenarios that belie how Apple and Steve Jobs would normally react.

Appreciate the honesty fishman! :) I want the forward facing camera and camera flash too, amongst other genuine benefits. But my life is not going to be over if the phone looks similar to the current one. I happen to think it's a fairly timeless design.

However tired the iPod Touch and iPhone designs may be, I expect the iPod Touch to gain a camera on the expense of keeping its case either similar to the current one or to the iPhone's.

Alternatively, the old iPhone design survives in a cheaper iPhone, aimed for more budget-conscious markets.

If somehow they do release the next iphone with the same design and form factor as the 3G/3GS, I would say that I'd probably jump ship but who am I kidding...I have too much invested in iTunes!

To my knowledge, any Android-based smartphone can't sync with iTunes, correct? If this is true, looks like I'm stuck with the new iPhone- refreshed design or not

I believe there are ways around it, but no easy solution. :p
