Pathetic

Apple makes an utterly insignificant amount of revenue in the overall scheme of things off of any one actor's movies. It's just totally inconsequential to their bottom line. It's not even a drop in the bucket of iTunes movie revenue for a quarter or year.

As such, they did this to recognize an icon, who as others have said was close to Apple and its fans, and give his own fans an easy way to see his movies at a moment when many probably want to reconnect with the great comedian and actor. They're not doing it to make money off of someone's death, give me a freaking break.

make them free, it won't kill you.

For 2 weeks to a month (or two) - seriously Apple, just do it.

No. Don't make them free. Just give the sales profit to Comic Relief, William's favorite charity.

The only sensible thing here, as has already been suggested by many posters before me, is for Apple to donate proceeds towards Comic Relief. Hopefully someone at Apple has thought about this by today and is already trying to convince Tim Cook to make it happen.

I would go one further and ask Apple to donate a considerable amount to Comic Relief or some other charity that Robin Williams was associated to. The profits from Robin Williams' movie sales from iTunes, I am afraid, would be a tiny amount compared to what Apple could easily afford.

I don't think Apple is exploiting Robin at all. iTunes is a multi-billion dollar business.

I truly believe Apple merely wants to point out the excellent spectrum of his very good acting career. He was an Apple Fanboy too.

That iPad Air commercial should be retired forever.

Really you actually believe that? Go work for a news agency or any major media company. They pre-write obituary for all celebs just for these occasions.

Apple could give 100% of their share of the sale to charity for some period of time if it desired, and they don't need a deal re-work to the content owner for that... However they don't appear to be stating that any profilts in this instance go to a greater good..

It's just about the money, and that really should be no surprise.

A dedicated section, but no discounts. Looks like Apple is just trying to cash in on this marketing "opportunity". Makes me feel kind of off about it...

Yeah, it feels a bit crass. Maybe they didn't mean in that way, but that's how it comes off. I guess there's a fine line (or overlapping grey area) between "honoring" and "cashing in on".

Yeah, its about the money. A company that sold $170 billion in products and services last year is jumping all over this opportunity to make a few thousand dollars.

Next, they will be ripping off little kids at the lemonade stand.

Genius.

I feel uneasy about apple and other media companies profiting off of Robin Williams and other famous celebs who die, by pushing people to buy their movies or shows so they can make a profit.

What apple is doing isn't noble it is disgusting. The same goes or amazon and all those other companies.

This is just like when MJ and Whitney died. Itunes and other music services made a future off of their death.

all you people can do is bitch and hate and bitch and hate. I am so sick of this ****...

I am very affected by the thought of the ugly way he ended his life, while living in such a beautiful place, and seemingly having everything a person would want or need out of life.

So sad to think that a man who brought so much fun, joy and compassion to others could never find his own internal peace.

Oh the demons that constantly assault our souls. RIP Robin.

RIP Robin Williams. Thanks for being so great, sorry to see you go so soon and companies trying to profit off your death 24hrs after.

Awesome of Apple to try and cash in on his untimely passing. No donation on Robin's behalf or even to suicide prevention but hey, they gave him his own dedicated section. Way to go Apple, get all that MONEY!

Sure, let's celebrate suicide with a big sale, and turn him into some kind of role model by spending weeks talking about how great he was.

Anyway, I hated Robin Williams, and thought basically all of his movies were terrible. Dead Poets Society was really the only one that's okay. That said, the man was obviously some kind of crazy genius, and even the most vehement anti-fan can admit that he was operating on a different level from most people on this planet. There was clearly something going on inside his brain that was not normal, like Beethoven or Picasso. I wouldn't be surprised if he had a very high IQ. But genius usually comes with some kind of a cost. For him it was depression and self-medication. I pitied the guy, even though I never liked him or his work.

Suicide, however, is the absolutely stupidest, most cowardly, and selfish thing a person can do. It fits every definition of evil I can think of. He should be vilified, instead of celebrated. As somebody who has suffered through repeated bouts of depression myself, I have empathy with his considering it, but no empathy for his choice to actually do it. My thoughts are with his family and the other people he utterly destroyed with his action. I can only imagine what horror they are going through now in his wake. He didn't merely take the easy way out, he strapped dynamite to his chest and blew himself up taking everyone else out around him.

I certainly hope if anyone here is considering suicide, they have the brains to realize just how ****ed up a thing it is to do their their families and friends. It doesn't matter how much you're hurting, suicide does nothing but prevent you from ever feeling better, and it will end a lot more than just your own life, it'll essentially end the lives of everyone who cared about you, and cause trauma to the first responders who have to come clean up after your mess. Call a hotline, talk to somebody, and get yourself some help. There is always hope, and it will get better. Even the worst people can be redeemed, even the most worthless of people are still worth something to somebody. Don't be stupid like Robin Williams.

Said someone who has never had a nanosecond of experience with someone dealing with depression. I'm calling BS. Well done, you've demonstrated a true form of obliviousness and naivety. Bravo.

Exploit? More like celebrating the life of. Why do you see it as "Oh look they're selling his movies and making money". They're just trying to make available all his movies for his dedication and for us to remember all the great roles/movies he's done.

They could afford to make them free during the mourning period ;)

Really? Should they do this with all singers, performers, actors that commit suicide, or just Robin Williams? He chose to take his own life. Should Apple or any other company condone suicide by donating to charity. Kill yourself and we'll donate to charity. What are you thinking? Oh wait, I don't think you are.

What a ****ing disturbing comment.

Honouring him by donating to his charity in NO WAY CONDEMNS SUICIDE! How dare you say such a disgusting thing?
