Looks like Jony Ive didn’t get to meet the Queen when he became Sir Jony…

“The ex pupil of Walton High School and the man behind the iconic design of the iMac, the iPod, the iPhone and the iPad was honoured at a ceremony at Buckingham Palace by Princess Anne.”
And your point is? Ffs.

I was hoping she'd make 100. Still, 96 is nothing to complain about especially when she was mentally intact. It's weird England has a king for the first time (or do they not have anyone until the ceremony?) either way I hope he does well. As the saying goes "the Queen is dead, long live the King" - btw for the record, I'm American, not British - don't let the username fool you.

What amazes me is everything this lady experienced over the years. She was a living history book. The monarchy will never be the same RIP
With Chucky in charge it may be time to draw the monarchy to an end. It would be very difficult to top QEII in any appropriate way.

Nice photo. Rather pretty. The crown is a nice touch. :)
I searched the Queen's face in that image for an indication of how it feels to not only have the responsibility of being Queen but to also take that responsibility seriously and responsibly. To me, it presents as a hundred expressions veiled in grace. A great portrait.

Apple today updated its homepage to honor Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away at Balmoral Castle earlier today. The company's website features a photograph of Queen Elizabeth taken by Dorothy Wilding in 1952.

Queen Elizabeth II was 96 years old, and her reign lasted for over 70 years, marking the longest reign of any British monarch. Her son, Charles, is her successor and is now King Charles III. In a statement, Charles III said that the Queen's death will be "deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world."

Very classy Apple. I was pleased to see this show of respect to this historical original. She was truly something very special. May she RIP.

I will say that I respect her for what she did when her father passed away so suddenly when he was only 56 or so, and now oops, she has to step into that crown. It was 1952; not yet 10 years after the end of World War II, when really the entire world had just faced its own possible mortality at the hands of Hitler, Mussolini, and Hirohito. The tiny country isn't yet healed and is no-doubt still rebuilding its infrastructure from the bombings and the great loss of army, navy, and civilian lives.

It was a time that you just did not renege on your responsibility to country.

As a young AND GORGEOUS 25-year old lady with status, Elizabeth could have unplugged from it all and just gone off and had fun like any beautiful mid-20's hottie with access to fame and money could have done. But no, she had to do what she did. Serve her country without all the whining that we hear from so many young people today. And serve she did. With honor and distinction.

Maybe all of that political stuff is true. Maybe none of it is true. More likely, some of it has bearing in truth. Okay, whatever, but I'm not going to freak out and go put my stock in Twitter's inability to tell the truth about anything of import! It's not like her death now will undo any wrongs anyway. And it's not like celebrating her death right now will improve the lives of, really, anybody at this point.

I don't know and I just don't care to research it right now. But one thing is for sure. All the accusations of murder and mayhem won't help anybody now. And dancing on somebody's grave; well that can just wait at least until she's been put to rest.

I find it touching to see the British in this thread remembering her majesty with such reverence. She must have been someone people really loved. RIP.
I feel fairly ambivalent about our monarchy. In a more equal society and world, perhaps it would not exist. But this is how it is at present, regardless of how things may be ever-changing.
And with her death, our more critical, open-minded and less deferential attitudes these days (in the UK at least) will certainly give us cause to reflect on how relevant the monarchy is for the coming age.
But this is a lifetime of devotion come to an end. It is significant for most British people (and of course others), having grown up with her being always there, and they will all have feelings about it. She was always an old lady to me, having grown up in the 80s, but that only served to underline the aura she possessed as the head of state - the Queen was this nation, in a way.
In my head, what I keep picturing tonight is the small red postbox along the street in my childhood village. Cast iron, painted in red, and with the letters E R embossed upon it. That will change now, eventually. The E will become a C. Everything will Change, if only by a small amount. The overall effect though will be huge.
I am sad she’s gone. I can’t say I loved her, but as the Queen she was somehow part of my identity as a British person, for better or worse. I’ll be passing her coffin in Westminster to pay my respects when the time comes.

RIP
