By law, the eldest child (regardless of sex, since 2011) of the monarch is next in line. So that would be Prince William, Duke of Cambridge.

The current “first six” in the line of succession are:
  1. Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, elder son of King Charles III
  2. Prince George of Cambridge, elder son of the Duke of Cambridge
  3. Princess Charlotte of Cambridge, daughter of the Duke of Cambridge
  4. Prince Louis of Cambridge, younger son of the Duke of Cambridge
  5. Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, younger son of King Charles III
  6. Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, son of the Duke of Sussex
And Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, daughter of Prince Harry and Meghan, is #7 in line. Lilibet is a family nickname for her grandmother, the (former) Queen Elizabeth II.

The most amazing thing is that she is the only queen that most, the incredible majority of her subjects have ever known. It seems surreal when I think of it. We've had how many presidents and other political figures, and she has been the queen the whole time. Granted it's almost a figurehead relationship but still. Amazing. And she seemed always ready for her public duties and weathered the mess her family devolved to. The scandals, divorces, missteps... And lost her husband too. She was one tough woman, and so driven by her original vow to always be there for the English people and her subjects. I'm sure many in the realm are taking her loss rather hard because the future can look uncertain. Will a new royal (King Charles III) be nearly as consistent and focused? Stay tuned I guess. Charles has his problems, and it is likely to be an interesting time on the throne.

And many Americans say we don't have royalty, but we do. Look at the reality TV shows, the checkout lane fish wrap, Mid-afternoon TV... *shrug*

God save the king...

Elizabeth played her role perfectly with profound class and indeed majesty. She was good for both England and the world. She will be remembered as a good monarch. RIP

Good thread. It’s been a great learning experience for me.

RIP QEII.

I'm not a Royalist but the Queen is some who is loved by many like myself. She is the light for our Nation, but most important of all the Mother of our Nation.

It is sad and upsetting she's gone. R.I.P

My heart is heavy with this news. I have always been a huge admirer of our beloved Queen. One of the most remarkable women of our times. She will be missed and never replaced. R.I.P. Long live the King!

There’s certain members here needlessly reacting to every post with laughing emoji’s. How mature of them.

I've noticed it too and I'm glad it's not just me, says alot about people's sense of respect towards others. Without repeating my previous post, this is someone's mother, grandma and great grandma, royalist or not.

I'm sure you'd want the same respect from people for your loved ones.

A photo of the Queen meeting with the Prime Minister 2 days before her death. You can not question this Queen's devotion to duty and love of country! Sometimes a nation's rituals and traditions are important.

R.I.P. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. She was an inspiration and an example during her 70 year reign. She upheld the British heritage and values throughout, while simultaneously computers evolved from the Turing Machine to the latest A16. She shall be greatly missed in the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth, and the world. Thank you Apple for paying tribute to our Queen.

Rest in peace? What is present in life before our arrival (birth) and after our departure (death) is our soul. What proof do we have that we as a soul could be restless and un-peaceful? The soul is eternally at peace, but its reflection, the individual, is peaceful at times and unpeaceful at others.

Cute things I didn't know: Every couple that had been married 60 years got a personally signed card commemorating the event from the Queen. Sure, it's a 'cheap gesture', but still very meaningful for those that reached that milestone, and received the cards. How amazing. I thought it was cute. 60 is a long time to be with the same person. To have your Queen acknowledge that has got to be kinda neat...

By "cheap gesture" I am sure you mean "nice gesture," which it is.

I meant that it was something that didn't cost much, didn't involve that many recipients and yet was a highlight of those that received them. Yes, 'cheap gesture' because it was a card, but an amazing gesture to signify not only her own long lived marriage, but help celebrate those of her subjects. When I read it, I had moist eyes. I've been married longer than most (all?) of our friends, and longer than many of them have been alive. It's significant. Some acknowledgement from a much beloved Queen and fellow sufferer would be just so awesome*...

* Unless I was a heartless twit, of which the world has too many. *sigh*

EDIT: I could have worded it better, true. It came out less than what I had planned.

I understand you now. I agree it is an amazing gesture. As for the cost of the gesture, I guess it depends on how one views the cost of 5 seconds of the Queen's time -- priceless for some / worthless to others, I suppose. I certainly would value and cherish such a gesture but that's just me. I suspect you would too given your post.

I would, I would. I was blown away hearing of that effort of the sitting monarch to engage with her subjects. So touching, and her time, or not, how cool...
