Apple ID Website Gets Design Overhaul

I feel like Apple’s website is one of the worst websites I have had to endure. If you wanna change your password, you login over here. If you wanna access invoices from your subscriptions, login over here, etc…

How do people end up with two Apple ID’s??

Am I the only one with just one Apple ID??
I almost made a 2nd Apple ID for purchase, so my wife and I can share anything we buy. Life got in the way and I actually forgot about this idea. Family sharing came out and fixed this issue, but I bet this is why some people have more than 1 Apple ID

One account for everything! I love it. Making it easier for everyone.

Is anyone out here still carrying @ me.com or @mac.com email address?
Yup...

And my app store ID is just a name, not an email... and i haven't been able to log into it for months. My level 2 tech support person was dumbfounded then the call disconnected.

Sigh.... can I merge them yet apple????? No? Great. Thanks.

I see a lot of comments about wishing we could merge Apple IDs. I doubt it will ever happen, but I could be wrong; I've asked Apple about it for years, and I HATE having a separate Apple ID for purchases. Two accounts was the best solution when the pile of garbage that was MobileMe was a thing, but iCloud fixed all that. For now, Apple has repeatedly told me the only solution is to add an Apple ID to a family plan and set it up with Family Sharing. What a pain in the rear.

Our best solution is to keep sending them feedback at www.apple.com/feedback.

I can see that it’s a complex challenge for Apple to merge two separate accounts and manage subscriptions, iCloud data, payment informations, etc. Not giving them an excuse not to do it but I think this is the primary reason
So i'm paying for TWO iCloud upgrades, and i can't get rid of one of them. Technically my account should have 4TB, but i can't log into my "name only" AppleID to see what happens if i downgrade it. When I added family sharing and went to AppleOne it did it on my "name@mac.com" AppleID. Yes the names are the same, but it is 2 different accounts...

Its a hot mess, I tried to deal with it a few months ago because i'm tired of paying an extra $10 a month for no extra space... i finally got a level 2 tech, she was shocked but verified I cannot log into the "name only" account because it is forcing an upgrade to an email, and I can't because the email is already associated with a different account. I can't use a totally different iCloud email - it has to be "name@mac.com"... the call disconnected and i haven't called back.

I've also reached out to the executive team for help and nothing.

My apple id for the iTunes store does not have any email attached. So I always had to setup 2 accounts in my devices. One for the store and then the Mac/me/iCloud one..
Same.... and now i'm stuck paying for 2 iCloud storage upgrades because i can't log into the "name" one - it forces and upgrade, and I can't change it to "different name@icloud.com" Sigh...

Going to go see if I can do that at least - although no one could tell me on which storage my data lives....

There is another workaround. You can setup a different account for the App Store in iOS and macOS. So everyone has their own ID, except for purchases. In this scenario, the store account is not a additional “fake” member of the family.

Well that didn't go anywhere....

Well, that didn't fix anything.... ?‍♀️

Basically, you can't really choose ANYTHING else... (yes I tried something different)

So is account merging a feature of this, or are people just commenting here hoping it'll be there? Genuine question and not sarcasm. I have my original Apple ID that I use for the App Store, and my iCloud that was originally MobileMe. I use both simultaneously, logged in two each account in the separate sections.

And what about changing of email address?

I have an old Apple ID that is just a username and not an email address. I'd prefer to keep it but during recent macOS upgrades I've noticed I get prompted to update the format and there is no Skip button, yet somehow closing out allows me to sign in successfully later. I forget the specifics but I'm under the impression they will eventually force everyone to upgrade to an email address as their Apple ID username.

It seems like the first adopters of iCloud will never be able to merge their ID’s with their original apple ID’s ?

I can't add a trusted contact because I still have an old iPad mini 2 among my devices. Wow

If you have a "samename@mac/me/icloud.com" address associated with the account it won't work to update the email to comply. That is the problem i face and posted above. I can't get in to change the email on the account either.

I did send another email to the executive team for help... i'm sure it will go nowhere.

I have a separate App ID/Password (for the app store) and iCloud user id/password. This was LONG before family sharing was a thing, my wife and I shared the app store login to avoid paying twice for apps. Not sure how we can ever merge that app store id with 2 different icloud accounts... we are stuck with 2 forever I guess.
You can dump the old account going forward. Apps bought using that Apple ID will still work as your iPhone can have apps from up to five Apple IDs.

Old apps will transfer over to a new iPhone if you use iCloud/iTunes backup to set up the new phone.

I’m actually at a point where I’m willing to repurchase apps. I have an Apple Music subscription so I’m not worried about paying for songs again. But can we even do that? If I sign out of my iTunes account with my original iTunes ID would I be able to sign in using my iCloud info? I would try but I’m always worried I’ll mess it all up.
Your old apps will still work - no need to repurchase anything.

When you set up a new phone and transfer a backup of your old phone, the new phone will ask for the password of the old AppleID and everything will then work on a new phone.

Is anyone out here still carrying @ me.com or @mac.com email address?
Yup. My original iTunes account is a .Mac while my present Apple ID is a .me
2021 we can dock a capsule to the ISS, land a booster rocket but can’t merge IDs ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
