theoretically, why wouldn't the mic be compatible? i can understand the remote, but even that... ??

Are these an upgrade?

Im assuming these do not SHIP with the Touch, right? Are these an upgrade to want Apple includes in the box with the Ipod Touch?

I guess we will have to wait and see, I dont see why it wouldnt work, or hy apple wont let it work. Another Fail for Steve jobs and Apple if it doesnt.

with every feature on the headphones other than the volume controls!! This is GREAT news!

Wow-I wish the Applestore would have told me they won't work with iPhone-I was just there a week or so ago and told them I was waiting to buy new headphones until the Apple ones shipped.

I really don't care about the remote-if the Mic and Audio work it will be good enough.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a good alternative in a similar ($70-$100) price range?

I take from it that you're an ******.

That just made me LOL. I was actually in a bad mood before I started that chat b/c I knew beforehand I wasn't gonna get a straight answer. Glad I found my own link on APPLE'S OWN Website!!!

Like I said in another post, the Apple drones are never allowed to answer, "I don't know", never.

They are allowed to lie, "It won't work" or parrot back the Apple brochure and that is it.

Actually, they are instructed to do the exact opposite. Customer-facing Apple employees are told NEVER to say anything they're unsure of. "I don't know, but let me find out for you" is the proper way to handle this.

It's exactly what the rep in the transcript did (after saying "I don't know" many times and in many different ways). It's super-lame of Apple to make these non-iPhone-compatible (if that's true) but what exactly should the rep have said? Should they have cable schematics in front of them?

take from it what you will:

I'll be quite honest you were being a jerk with him.
He spelt it out for you several times.
I'd hate to deal with Apple customers the a small portion on here as I've noticed in other threads are quite up themselves.

I'm sure a software update for the iPhone could make the mic and volume controls usable

And I'm sure you're wrong. The new iPods have a different headphone jack with an extra connector for the volume controls. The only way the iPhone can have that is with a hardware update.

Huh?

I just don't get the big deal about Apple getting around to re-releasing their in-ear headphones. Sure the remote is cool, but unless they're a huge upgrade in fit, comfort, and audio quality from the old in-ear headphones, they're still a rip-off. I had the originals, and the sound was decent but nothing special, and they started falling apart after less than 6 months, being treated quite well.

If you're really that desperate for a remote, go for it, otherwise get some decent earphones from Shure, etc.

etc.

Why do you have to treat people like that? He did the best he could with the information he had. He suggested you go to an Apple store. If you need to know right away, do that. If not, you know that people will post the answer on the internet within a week.

Newtman these are a HUGE upgrade over the old ones in every imaginable way. Each earpiece contains two separate drivers, pretty incredible for the price comparable to others on the market.

Justin R.: Thank you for visiting the Apple Store. We appreciate your business. If you would like more help, please chat with us again.

What a waste of time and how completely disrespectful.

Why do you feel you are owed an answer to ridiculous questions? Yes, they are silly.

Does Apple not have the right to build product specific components and list only what they want them to be compatible with? And with your limited knowledge you expect answers to things you don't understand at all?

Do you have some super-secret internal hardware knowledge of differences between the iPhone and iPod Touch, or are you just making a guess and then badgering an employee with lame questions which any normal person would know they wouldn't have answers for anyway?

I feel bad for these employees that have to put up with crap from these people.

Obviously, they said it is not designed for the iPhone -- so get off your hind-end and goto an Apple store and look at it yourself or wait for someone else to test it if you are that sure it will work just fine.

Sorry it's so inconvenient for you to goto an Apple store, but I am sure that it's Apple's fault as well that you don't live closer to one.

I've also heard that these new earphones are not compatible with a 120v socket, so why don't you call them up and badger them about that? I mean it's only common sense that it will fit in just fine with one good whack of a hammer.

Or are you implying that Apple is either being secretive about this hidden compatibility or are completely dumb to the fact that it might work on another product in their lineup?

I wrote a specific linux / unix application years ago and of course I get the whole "why won't it run on windows" guys calling all of the time. They want a list of all of the reasons it won't run on windows and why not... The answer and it is very appropriate: "We said it won't run on windows and we don't support it on Windows. If you want to try it, good luck but it doesn't change the fact that we said it won't run and we don't support it on Windows."

... I don't even know where to end ... What a joke. And this over a pair of headphones...

In that case, mic functionality could be implemented, what i don't understand is why volume controls weren't included with the original (and rather crap) headphones

Yes, I see the press, but there's plenty of other dual driver earphones out there that suck compared to some of the single driver earphones. Maybe they're great, but I'm not buying it until I see an actual review. I'm an apple fan boy at heart, but apple has never failed to leave me disappointed when it comes to accessories.

Thanks for the foolish, long winded post. I expect employees of a company to know which of their products are compatible with one another. The fact that I was able to find the answer myself on that employees own website shows that he was lacking knowledge that he should have had or should have been able to find out.

Fair enough.
