Calm down everyone

2 drivers is not always greater than 1 driver. There are plenty of *quality* 1 driver earphones out there than can hold their own against hokey 2/3 driver earphones. The number of drivers is simply not an end all metric for judging how good sound quality is going to be. I'm so tired of fan boys trying to defend the sound quality of something that no one has actually heard.

I've used a lot of different in-ear headphones (Apple, Sony, Sennheiser, Shure), bottom end to top end, and there's simply no way to really judge the sound quality by looking at the literature and tech specs. How about we reserve judgement till they actually come out?

headfi have been in flames waiting for these. they will not sound bad; that is impossible. however, will they sound good? probably they will be very decent.

but for 80$, no other company have given 2 armature drivers of any type. and a mic. and a remote control. i will be selling my sleek audio sa6 soon and the proceeds from that may fund a pair of unassuming phones.

what i like other than the marketing for the hifi is that apple don't market their products as the best sounding. if they are, then they are quiet about it. however the consumer sadly awaits for a company like shure or futursonics to tell them it sounds best before buying.

i cannot wait to hear these. they cost about as much as the cheapest of single armature phones but have so much more. apple may strike this market hard and make other companies have to lower the prices of their ridiculously priced iems and canalphones.

From engadget....

so everything works apart from vol. control.... maybe something for a firmware upgrade???

I doubt it, rumor is the iPhone jack is only setup for 3 connections. Left, Right, and Mic/Click. The new iPod has 4 I believe, this is all from my understanding.

I'm trying to justify things...the way I figure is if I get these new inner-ears (if they get solid reviews), I'll have the capability of a volume control for future iPhones as I'd ASSUME (yes, yes...we all know what that stands for) they'd build in the support in future iPhones.

I'd love volume control, but because everything else works and they isolate, it's not a deal breaker for me.

I'm really anxious to hear reviews.

The plug for the IEH and normal headphones (the ones included with the iPhone) have the same number of sections. The issue is probably a voltage difference when using the volume controls. I surmise the volume control is operated by a difference in voltage versus a on off type signal.

Hmmm, too bad they couldn't beat out those shures.

What is the noise isolation capability of the Shure headphones and what makes them any different from apple's? Seem to work the same way..

$80!?!?!??

What?!?!

EDIT: At least I'm not alone:
Overall, the Apple In-Ear Headphones are a quality product at a fairly reasonable price. They sound great, and work as expected. That said, unless you really need a remote on your headphones (or just want to show the world you're a card-carrying member of the Cult of Apple), there are still a couple of better values out there. Still, Apple's latest headphone offering is not a bad choice.

If you think $80 is expensive for a set of headphones with these specs then you have not done any research at all.

Do the U.S. stores have these yet?

Any updates on this question?
I didn't have any time to call them today, but I am particularly interested in the Seattle store.
And since I will be leaving the U.S. over christmas: How are chances they will be in stores by the end of next week?

I called my Atlanta stores and basically was laughed out from the rep with "Heck I'd buy them if we had them too but no luck" So I guess I wait on my 7-10 order...

I was in the Corte Madera, CA Apple Store yesterday, and when I asked one of the Apple guys over there when they where going to have the new headphones, he didn't even know that new headphones were launched by apple, he called another apple guy to ask him if new headphones from apple were available, and he told him that probaby by the end of next week they should have...

I bought a set of the Shure SE110's and was so disappointed with the sound that after the first few minutes I put them back into the box and got a refund. I did manage to find the next ones up, SE210's for the same price, and bought those. I immediately fell in love with them and now after appr. 100 hours of use they're truly amazing.
Anyway, they come with various sizes of silicone and foam rubber tips. The foam ones work the best for me and completely seal the ear off. I can't hear anything with them in. You compress the foam, insert them, let the foam expand into place.
If the SE110's beat these in the review then the sound on them cannot be very good. I have a pair of skull candy's that sound better than the SE110's I tried. Therefore I don't completely trust the review because my stock iPhone headphones sound pretty good in comparison to the SE110's.

Mine shipped from Hong Kong yesterday but my estimated date of delivery is December 16th (ugh!). Guess I have to wait another week.

Wow, you seemed kinda like a jerk to him.
He did the best he could and gave you as much information as possible.
It's not his fault the headphones don't work.

Exactly!
@ jmwein: That was uncaused for...the conversation you had with him. If the headphones don't work with the iPhone, then they don't work. smh! wow!

Wow @ $80! What do they do? Cook breakfast for me, or something. I'm going to stick to my $20 Wal-Mart headphones that are loud and reliable.:apple:

great idea! people must be stupid to pay $80!!! in-fact, you should buy 4 sets of walmart headphones and wear then at the same time...imagine how loud that would be!!!

Crap...ordered mine now after talking to an Apple Rep and he assured me, my order would ship within 24 hours. Now it says Shipping: Dec 30th!

Bah....looks like i am going to call Apple again....

For the people whose orders have shipped...When did you place your original order?
