An even better reason to pick some up.

Do whatever you want. I was just suggesting an alternative.

Personally I would never ever ever buy earbuds from apple for $80. If you ARE going to spend that much, I would much rather pick up a set of professional Shures which are pretty much top of the line.

It's not really an alternative if it doesn't have the microphone and remote control functions is it?

Quite a few of us would like these just for the convenience of being able to answer a phone call when we are listening to music at a desk, etc, without having to unplug from the iphone first. Being able to skip tracks, etc, without pulling the ipod/phone out of a pocket and risk dropping it is worth a few bucks too.

I have a $300 Shure headset and it sounds phenomenal but it's certainly not the kind of headphone I'm going to use when I'm out working on the house or going for a walk down the street.

Also as others have mentioned these new Apple phones would have to be pretty horrible to not sound better than most single driver headphones. Generally speaking dual-driver headsets cost $100 and up, without the remote, microphone, etc.

Oh ya, and these haven't made it to Colorado yet either!

Your title is misleading. It should read that they're in some Apple retail stores.

I can tell you they're not at Irvine Spectrum - Irvine, CA, Mission Viejo Mall - Mission Viejo, CA, Costa Mesa, CA, Southpoint Mall - Durham, NC, or Crabtree Mall Raleigh NC.

Why would I know this? I've called them all in the last hour and they've all said they're not in stock.

Do you have experience with other in-ear phones? How do they compare to the models you've owned previously?

you're right - how dare the OP post a misleading title. he could have easily called the 100s of apple stores in the US and confirmed whether it is available in each and every store, before posting here...

how irresponsible of the OP - causing you so much inconvenience!!!

Just so you know, you don't have to unplug your headphones when you get a call, even if they don't have a mic built in. You just have to hold the speaker up to your mouth so you can talk into it. But the sound comes through the headphones.

I would have to agree that if the remote function is what you're after, then the Apple ones are probably a good deal.

Personally I much prefer great sounding earphones. I do a fair bit of research into binaural beat music and Autism and just had the privilege to receive a demo set of Shure SE310s.. Altho I haven't had the time to really test it with the Binaural stuff, I can honestly say that these are by far the best set of earphones I've ever had a play with.

If I had to purchase a new set of earphones, I wouldn't hesitate to fork out that kind of money. They are so well worth it. The fit is incredibly comfortable and with the foam tips, they block out 95% of outside noise.

I personally wouldn't go near the Apple ones. The remote would be a nice touch, but its not even worth it for the sound these puppies put out. With the standard ones and even the new Apple one, I can put the volume down by about half and still get amazing sound.

Anyway, just my two cents worth.

A lot of people have more than one set of headphones. I have a $300 set of Shure headphones that sound great but I don't take them with me everywhere since there's too much of a chance of catching a wire on something while mowing the lawn, etc, and ruining them.

The Apple phones, while a bit pricey, might make a good 2nd set of headphones for guys like me who want a "cheap" set to trash while just walking around or working.

If you look around you can pick up a pair of Shure SE-210's for about the same price as these Apple's.

Wow, it's good to know that the Shure headphones now have a microphone as well as playback controls!!

...wow...that was a HORRIBLE joke....i salute you

Hey! I didn't get a salute! Please see post #24 and then give me the salute I am due. :D:p

Seriously, if people are going to compare headphones to these Apple ones they need to have the same functionality.

BTW, the volume control works on my laptop, so comparable ones need to be able to do that too.

...wow...that was a HORRIBLE joke....i salute you

i am not sure what the joke was - pls enlighten...

but anyway - i don't understand people who come here and compare these to shure's and other 'vanilla' headphones...

even if the shure's sound twice as good, it still doesn't matter - it is an apples to oranges comparison...i use headphones with a mike and remote today, and listen to music all the time, and am interrupted several times by phone-calls...i cant even imagine using my shure's with my iphone...i would have to pull them out 3-4 times an hour, answer the call, then go back to the music...

i mean people make fun of so-called apple fanboys and accuse them of being biased...well - the apple anti-fanboys are even more biased...they rule out a product without even listening to it! sheer stupidity if you ask me...

it is absolutely alright to compare products and recommend alternatives, but the comparison should atleast make an iota of sense...for example - i use super.fi 4vi which is a true apples to apples comparison...they both have the exact feature set, and hence the comparison is purely on quality of the features...

seriously people - if you have nothing intelligent to say, then dont say anything at all...

i am not sure what the joke was - pls enlighten...

it was a pun...let me put it this way..

you said "if you look around you will notice that one is an apple and the other is an orange..."

this could be read as "if you look around you will notice that one is an :apple: and the other is an orange..."

...wakka wakka...

I wonder if these would actually work with the iPod touch 2G. I know they can work with the iPhone

I'm sure a firmware update would let you use the volume control to adjust the sound using the headphones.

Don't be so sure. The iPhone doesn't have the correct hardware in the headphone jack to take advantage of the tip of the metal on the new headphones (which control the volume). You won't see this possible until the next iPhone revision at the earliest. NO firmware will make this possible.

not just a lame apple gimmick!! these are really nice

the new apple in ear headphones are amazing and i've only had them for a day.

first off let me start with the sound, really good not weak like the standard external one that your ipod came with. some say the bass is lacking but i say its fine and if it was i would adjust the eq.

the mic is very crisp, i cant stop recording my self just to listen to the quality.
very fun

the in ear headphones fit in and come down and out the ear and feel really smooth coming out of the ear and the fit is nice and secure with out being uncomfortable. the kind you can sleep with and not even notice. alot ppl like in ear headphones for sleeping and these would be ideal. if your a ipod touch owner and have notice trying to ff or rewind with the touch isn't the easiest task!!! thanks to the remote it is

2 click for ff , 3 for rewind, 1 for pause/play volume un and down are very responsive.

mic/remote is high up the cord let say i have them in the mic would be around my neck just around the collar line at first i thought it was too high then i realized that all the one hand on my touch hitting record and pause i dont have to hold the mic or anything like that which is conveniently nice.

i ended up paying like 90, 100 bucks and the only real down side is the feel of the cord its not like sturdy plastic but the soft kind but then again the stirdy stiff plastic usually ends up breaking at points any way so maybe its a good thing? also an extra foot or two would be nice kind of short on the cord but o well

i dont know about the shure se210 but these are worth the money to me.

If y'all ever plan to spend the money, I would have to say the Shure E500/SE530 is worth every penny; the PTH unit is nifty too, but it's kind of not worth the extra $50.
