LOL, I will never be able to afford an Apple Car. This makes me kind of sad.

I bought a Subaru Outback Limited this summer. I freaking love that thing. It's the perfect size for a family of four, has a great safety rating and incredible AWD performance. I wish that Apple could make a mashup of the Outback and the Tesla Model X and sell it somewhere between the two. I just want a faster, all-electric Outback base with Apple design cues/software integration as well as Auto Pilot mode and possibly fully autonomous driving on the highway. Never gonna happen with those capabilities and design in the $40-50k range, but I can dream. We'll be lucky if the first Apple Car ships for less than $100k. Maybe I can blow my retirement on an Apple Car in 35 years.

For now I just have to hope that other companies like Subaru will get better at software integration, and companies like Tesla will get better at bringing the price down.

Love it... you think the FT doesn't survive on Rumors! It's still a newspaper. AND then you have the audacity to claim McClaren wouldn't sell to Apple without even knowing who the Shareholders are... Ron Dennis ( up for retiring apparently ) Mansour Ojjeh, part owner of TAG watches and the Bahrain Government. The company makes about 20-40m a year.... they'd definitely sell.

And don't forget they are probably only after the Electric car tech so may well leave out the F1 and other subsidiary companies but you'd know all about that wouldn't you...

Oh and Mclaren have already Denied this anyway so boring conversation anyway.

The sheer fact that you claim they would sell displays your complete lack of understanding, knowledge and comprehension of the idea of this story. And I didn't realise the FT was called FT Rumours?

I can see the fit between McLaren and Apple. There was a documentary on the BBC a few years ago about the process to develop the P1, and it was incredible to see Ron Dennis' attention to detail. Something along the lines of having the floor in the factory relaid several times because it was the wrong type of white. Made me think very much of a British Steve Jobs. Also, the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking was designed by Norman Foster and shares a number of design ideals with Campus 2.

Apple Execs probably went on a factory tour........

Very 'Apple' isn't it?

If Apple ever does release a car, it's going to be the biggest piece of FUBAR ever.

Actually it's very Tesla and very European. Ever been to a European car factory? Light years ahead of the US.

Woo. Did not see that coming...

Just don't let Jony Ive touch it...
"You see, the more we thought about it, the more it made sense. The steering wheel was not the future. Instead, we looked at the electric wheelchair. The next generation knows how to drive with a game pad, so why not actually drive in that fashion? With our new W2 chip, we have made driving integration even more seamless with a joystick on the armrest. Also, no more windshield. Glass is too expensive. Instead we've developed an 8K augmented reality viewer. No more need for USB. We have a lightning dock built in, because Jony Ive, I mean, me."

Silence...

Cook: "I love it. We are going to sell 5. That is enough. Our Mac Pro numbers were that good, right?"

Phil giggles girlishly, "No, Tim, this will be better. We are going to sell 8."

*Boardroom gasps and applauds.*

Just kidding. They're not buying it. Still fun to daydream dystopian Apple Exec thoughts, though.

If the Apple Car ever releases, I'll believe when I see it. For now, its smoke and mirrors until otherwise.

I guess if Apple would be talking to McLaren they would have to inform their sharholders at some point. Does someone know when? If they would be talking to McLaren but have not informed their shareholders yet, they would have to deny it, at least until they inform their shareholders.?!

BREAKING NEWS: Samsung in talks to acquire KIA.
That *actually* wouldn't surprise me if Apple acquired an automotive entity. Jelly with envy. Samsung would definitely collect more crap... And polish that turd until mirror-finish.

I think Lotus would be a better acquisition for Apple as it has a long history of designing for mass-market car makers and, of course, the original Tesla was effectively an electrified Elise.

If this happens, the McLaren Pro will never be updated!
[doublepost=1474498307][/doublepost]True, but the iMcLaren Pro will autoupdate. Unfortunately, like the OS X windows-reversed scroll wheel, you will need to get used to a new reversed standard for brake and accelerator pedal positions.
