I would like to point out that going from $1.50 to $2.00 is a 33% raise. That is not what I'd consider a "slight increase"!

Yes, it's only 50¢ in absolute terms, but I don't have a good sense of what is standard in these countries.

Absolute terms are all people see these days. “Oh, 50 cents is nothing.”

That’s how we got to the point of paying $500 for headphones and $200+ for AirPods.

Spotify, YouTube and my local iTunes playlist is enough for me.

Good mention.
I forgot that I do use YouTube and YouTubeMusic since I'm a YT Premium subscriber

I'm on a free trial of Apple Music right now that I honestly forgot about.
I find the software to be really weird and unpleasant to use/discover with.

As usual with modern Apple, their software continues to disappoint me.

This strategy also means you'll basically never have current music.
Naw, it's more like buying outdated fashion. Eventually, it will be the current fashion.

My SO heard Latto's Big Energy recently and was like HUH??? that's Tom Tom Club's Genius of Love. And when we googled it Big Energy is Mariah Carey's Fantasy... which is Tom Tom Club's Genius of Love...

If you were to use Big Energy in a YouTube video you could get three copyright strikes.

So, yeah, save money and get the older versions.

HaHa. Storage is needed for any computing anyway. So use a portion of the storage purchased for anything one does with their computer to store relatively small music files in some of the space. Or maybe you mean iDevice storage? If so, as someone preferring to own, I do tend to buy a tier or two higher than baseline storage for synching lots of favorite playlists and some ripped videos when I'll be traveling. But if I was that pinched, I could very easily build lots of playlists on the computer and then sync a few at a time based on my impending plans. With laptops tending to be the "main" computer more and more, it's probably going along with me on any big trip too, so I have all songs and all playlist to adjust what is on my iDevice at any given time too.

Yes, but the amount of storage needed for, say, text files, is a lot different to that needed for a comprehensive music library.

Honestly, I didn't get through the rest of your post. To be clear, I'm not even saying that the option you've proposed is a bad option, just that it also includes a bunch of costs that you ignored in your original post and has very clear downsides.

I can't tell if you're being serious or this is a joke I just don't get.

It is a slight decrease in the ridiculously low likely lost leader pricing that at $1.99 is still $8 off the regular 9.99 price. It’s the cost of buying two singles downloads for 50 million songs

Yes, but the amount of storage needed for, say, text files, is a lot different to that needed for a comprehensive music library.

My existing accumulated library- about 15K songs- takes up about 388MB. I'd never want the whole thing with me as many albums have fluff I never care to hear again. Based on playlists I've assembled to my own tastes, my repeat listening pool from 15K is down to about 4K songs. They represent the MAX upside I'd generally like to be available at any given time.

The playlists I generally sync to my iDevice take up 126GB. If I needed that to use less space, I could opt to sync fewer lists at any given time (maybe rotate lists if I liked all of them equally)... or I could check one box to sync them as 160kpbs instead of AAC+... or 128kbps to really get the total size down. For all of that, I no longer have any ongoing costs. None of it can be taken away from me at any time by not paying Apple something monthly.

I DO choose to add select singles and a few albums to it each year but this approach has piled up so much that I could basically STOP doing much of that at all and probably never tire of the listening variety I've accumulated. Nevertheless, if I was a person who wanted to keep building- and I am- a smallish budget covers the small range of new songs that I consider long-term "keepers" to add each year.

None of this says renting Music is entirely bad- it has its place- but for those whining about price increases (with only more to definitely follow over the years as it does/will in all rental-driven models)- this is THE Apple-endorsed option for many years that is still fully available to anyone, still fully functional and requires no ongoing monthly fee to serve owned music for up to the rest of anyone's life.

The price of Apple Music for Student is also increased in Vietnam, from 29.000₫ to 35,000₫, as shown on Apple website in Vietnam market.

My music collection is roughly 90GB, but I like listening to full albums rather than playlists. I know people with much larger libraries. People approach music differently.

The cost of living in South Africa is 66% lower. In US currency the non-discounted South African price of Apple Music is $3.79.

Of course, and I'm definitely NOT saying my way is the ONLY way here. I've simply been chipping in for those unhappy with a rent price increase... which will only be followed by more of them in the future. There is another way- fully endorsed by Apple as THE way for many years.

The way I've shared is one which- by design- doesn't allow someone else the ability to demand more & more money from my own "streams" of music at ANY point in the future. Those able to "think different" about it all have very tangible alternative options than "I'll just pay more" or "I'll whine loudly but just pay more."

For context the non-discounted price is 59,000đ.
59,000đ = $2.55 USD
29,000đ = $1.25 USD
35,000đ = $1.51 USD

That's a 10% increase. Not as bad as some places, but not insignificant either.

Inflation is global. Someone, somewhere has to pay. In this case the people using it are splitting the costs with apple employees and shareholders. It is just like taxes, a person somewhere is paying, it is just a question of which person, except inflation is highly regressive.

Inflation is global ... and yet Apple just set a record-breaking quarter. Give me a break..

So what is it exactly that you’re complaining about? The fact that consumers are spending their money on Apple products? FYI, it’s not just products consumers are spending their money on, it’s also services that Apple has exceedingly done very well with.

Absolute value isn't a fair way to evaluate it. Look at it as a 34% increase.

And of course, to get how the crowd here really feels about "small" price increases in streaming services around here, swap the player away from being Apple. Browse any given "Netflix raising $1/month thread" like this one: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...-plans-4k-streaming-now-20-per-month.2331263/ How different "we" feel about "tiny" price increases when it's not Apple. ;)

Amazon Prime increase sentiment: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...embership-fee-by-17-for-us-customers.2333685/

ESPN+ increase sentiment: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...spn-to-6-99-per-month-69-99-per-year.2304043/

Search and see. It appears anyone else asks for a little more: bad, robbery, ripoff, rebellion, gather the torches & pitchforks. They should pay ME that much to take the service. Bait & Switch. There should be a law against. Get the stake ready and start the fire. Etc. ;)
