to be fair, is there an asset class that depreciates faster than electronics? Maybe unrefrigerated milk products? I don't expect any resale value and just give mine away to people I know who could use them.

Does that apply to the 2014 mac mini apple is still selling for the same price? Otherwise it’s hypocrisy at its finest.

WTF. Just last week I got my Apple Store Gift card for turning in my late-2010 27" iMac.
And I can't check the website with the serial number to see what the new value is.
Apple does not take any computers in store. It’s online only ...soooo yea...

Meanwhile a ton of folk have been volunteering their Apple Serial numbers to a company who apparently provide very little service in return for this potentially juicy info. o_O

Or am just being paranoid?

My mind can't figure out what to do with all those serial numbers but now you make me wonder?????

Nor can I, but I ponder why they need serial numbers when they could do just as well by getting model numbers, CPU, RAM, storage and condition information.

Like I say, I may be paranoid, but I do wonder about things like this. After all, they're not doing this out the goodness of their hearts.

The only thing I can think of is the serial # does give them an independent resource to verify the as built info.

Anyone who trades in computers or cell phones to various companies like this is either insane, filthy rich or really loves getting ripped off.

Can this be done in an Apple Store for immediate gift card?
[doublepost=1513104546][/doublepost]

I'm going to do this for my iMac when I get home. I bet I too will be laughing at the joke ;) I'll give it a shot and post.

Online only. Apple doesn't want people to break out into uncontrollable laughter in the store when they receive their trade-in quite. There is also the risk that someone standing nearby meght over hear the quote and offer a fair price.

macofalltrades is the best I've used for this exchange service. I have never had an issue with them "inspecting" my stuff and trying to undercut it. They have always paid the amount they say on the estimate.

I actually disagree. That little for a 2 or 3 year old Mac is ridiculous. Yes, many things depreciate fast, but that’s like offering someone $10,000 for their 2015 E Class. Nothing depreciates THAT fast.

My Late 2013 15” rMBP is STILL selling on eBay for $700-$800.

I also prefer to just give my old stuff away as well, but come on now.

Page isn't displaying the correct hardware information for mine, so wouldn't trust the quotes at the moment.

I paid close to $3K in March. They want to give me $910.00

Apple iMac 27" 2015 Core i7 4.0GHz 2TB Fusion

If you want full (or at least the most you can get) value, sell on your own. Yea there's a bit of risk, but you can get a lot more cash for your stuff. If you want to play it safe, then you're going to lose out on the value.

They just offered me $795 for a mid 2015 MBP with 1TB of SSD. How do these companies stay in business? Who sells their stuff to these people? What a joke lol.
