I actually disagree. That little for a 2 or 3 year old Mac is ridiculous. Yes, many things depreciate fast, but that’s like offering someone $10,000 for their 2015 E Class. Nothing depreciates THAT fast.

My Late 2013 15” rMBP is STILL selling on eBay for $700-$800.

I also prefer to just give my old stuff away as well, but come on now.

It is just an E-class, don't they just hand those things out anyway.

(I'm kidding)

Every time any one tries to get a valuation, apopuo shows up on Tim's computer and Tim laughs out loud:D

On a serious note, will this reduce the price on Craigslist? Why should I pay more than Apple's valuation for a used apple device?

No it will not. That’s cause nobody that stupid or high would list such low pricing on Craigslist or Kijiji and nobody buying on those sites would ever believe to see such a post and not think it’s a rock in the box!

Apple employees that created such partnerships need a smack! If they themselves wouldn’t be subjected to such despicable assessment and would not follow through then the partnership shouldn’t have been made. Apple should be doing his themselves online paying for national shipping and utilizing their stores as a central hub in some countries where it would make sense IF their serious about the environment and trying to close the supply chain loop they’ve talked about in 2017.

Shot like this only insults their user base.

I buy direct from the UK provider of this service - Brightstar. We get lists on a weekly basis on anywhere between 600-800 units, from across the EU. Brightstar basic checks & ISO standard drive wipes. Brightstar have to make a markup, and given that most of those who trade it in aren't honest with the condition and/or functionality of the product.

It works for me - so please keep trading in!

I think some people expect Apple to pay more than what they paid for, or at least the same amount, when they first bought their machine based on some of the comments on here lol. I guess some people don't know the meaning of USED.
No, Apple apologist, we understand USED; however, don't market "up to $2500" knowing full well that price would only be offered for a top-of-the-line iMac you brought home from the store yesterday. My 2014 iMac, in excellent shape, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD - $315. As someone else mentioned, I'll just donate mine to a friend or give it to charity.

to be fair, is there an asset class that depreciates faster than electronics? Maybe unrefrigerated milk products? I don't expect any resale value and just give mine away to people I know who could use them.

Just for kicks I checked the site for a value for my 2007 iMac knowing fully well it would be zero, and I was not disappointed. I am also not disappointed in the fact that my 2007 iMac still works well as the secondary computer in the house, great for all the basics such as email, web, and Quicken. Of course for that matter I have an original year Intel iMac that also works just fine. Maybe I can find a place to trade both of them in for an iMac Pro :)

My mid2012 15” i7 Unibody MacBook Pro is apparently worth $420. That was surprising. What’s a little more surprising is that it’s not worth much different from some way newer MacBook Pro’s posted about by others in this thread. I would have expected it to be worth less, not the same or more.

Mine was eligible. I used my serial number.

I wonder how much they’d give me for my 2011 Mac mini with an i7.
They'd probably offer you free shipping if it's in good shape.

Maybe my machine is special. . . $1585 for a 2017 Base 15" MacBook Pro ;)
It's special because it is practically new.

Trade in companies are about making money...so why is it a surprise that they don't want to give you what it's worth? With the amount of buy/sell/trade sites/apps there are nowadays it's a wonder anyone uses these "trade in" services.

If your Mac is more than 5 years old you should either just retain it (I still have a working 2006 MBP) or give it away. One of the selling points for Macs back in the day was their longevity. I don't know if that's still true.

That company is a farce. I figured them being recommended and touted by Apple, they'd be up to snuff, but nope. I tried turning over my pristine 2015 Macbook to them earlier this year and they offered $450. It didn't have a scratch on it. I wiped the SSD, reinstalled the newest version of macOS, and sent it in... including all of the original components, even the box. It was a shining example of "mint condition", but they got back to me with an offer of $250, because they said they couldn't restore the OS. Flashing folder and all that. They zeroed and wiped the SSD 5 times (you're not supposed to do this to SSDs, as they have a limited number of read/write cycles, just like any flash memory device)! Then they said they couldn't reinstall the OS. I told them to fornicate with themselves and send it back to me. The moment I got it back, I restored the OS and it worked perfectly. I sold it to a friend for $450. Ridiculous.

my 2012 11" MacBook Air is worth £110 to them.

ebay is between £250 and £400 depending on ram and SSD.

so considering they resell not mega low.
But I'd never go down that road as could sell local at £250 all day long.

Apple today increased its trade-in values for select Mac models released in 2009 and later. In partnership with buyback company Phobio, Apple now offers customers up to $2,500, compared to up to $1,500 previously.

The new trade-in values in the United States are as follows:

o MacBook: up to $1,110
o MacBook Air: up to $430
o MacBook Pro: up to $2,500
o iMac: up to $2,500
o Mac Pro: up to $1,560

To determine how much credit you can receive, visit the Phobio website, enter your Mac's serial number, and answer a few questions about its current condition. Phobio will then provide an estimate based on the information provided.

If you accept the quote, you'll receive payment after your Mac has been inspected and its condition has been verified. The payment can be in the form of an emailed Apple Store gift card, PayPal deposit, or a virtual prepaid Visa card.

A maxed-out 2017 15-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar in good condition, for example, has a trade-in value of $2,510. A maxed-out 2016 15-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar in good condition is eligible for $1,460 credit.

Apple's trade-up program is convenient, but customers can get better resale value by selling their Mac on eBay or listing it in classifieds such as Craigslist or the MacRumors Marketplace, so long as you adhere to our rules and requirements.

Apple also offers up to $500 for select PCs. Meanwhile, Macs released earlier than 2009 are eligible for Apple's free Renew and Recycling program only.

Well, I did a test run on the following:

Perfect condition iMac, i7 at 4 GHz, with a 1 TB Fusion and 32 GB of 1600 MHz DDR3 RAM. This is a 5K screen, of late 2014 vintage operating High Sierra 10.13.2. Designated as iMac15,1.
Given that, the quote was ONLY $750.00 and I think not! I’d be interested in the iMac Pro, but I am quite certain I can sell for a better price. At least that has been my experience in the past.

So, what was the quote?

$750

I think not!

My trade in value for my 2015 Macbook pro is $525, however I did contact phobio about the trade in value has gone up because of the post macrumors made and phobio said only 4 devices trade in value increased and mine is still the same. They also said that the rumors that macrumors posted are false. So I don't know who to believe [shrug].

lol what a complete joke. My amazing super reliable and fixable MBP 15 2012 with 16GB RAM i7 2.33 and 2 x 1TB SSD which has been running 24/7 for 3.5 years is worth $150 on trade in. to replace this i would have to pay somewhere in region of £3000-£3500 ;-) No thanks
