25 years ago I proposed that my college build a Craigslist-like website for students to easily connect and sell used textbooks to each other.

I got immediate pushback from the bookstore who wanted to protect their insanely low buyback prices.

🤣

Though this should be good news, all it does is demonstrate a lack of integrity. If Apple was serious about their environmental credentials, they would be doing more to entice users to trade-in.

They (Apple) no doubt fell the pressure lately surrounding the concern of trade-in values, and have responded to that rather than providing a fair price in the first place. And this is still worser value than the previous price changes.
They're running a business, not a charity. They are under no obligation to provide a fair price, only to provide one that the market allows.

If Apple truly wanted to make a positive impact, they should make their own version of craigslist, and allow people to sell Macs through their site. Anything you sell would be verified through mandatory diagnostics tests. Would be very trustworthy!
They'd want 30%.

I need to know what thought process led some people to believe their mac should be worth even 50% of what they paid for, Apple is not going to resell those machines as refurbished. Don't like the price? You can risk it on ebay.

Does Apple refurb and resell these devices, or are they all dismantled? I thought reselling to another user was more environmentally responsible than sending it to Apple for destruction.

Trading in is something of a convenience. But selling it privately is better for your pocket book.
eBay is a high-priced cesspool of third rate flea market chicanery and FaceBook Marketplace isn't far behind (although at least is free). My last half dozen experiences were so bad, they make me not want to buy new stuff anymore because I cannot throw away perfectly usable old stuff, and selling it makes me question the state of humanity.

Wow...I went really dark there for a second. Sorry about that!😜

Even their trade in values are stingy 😂 $20-$30 increase to entice buyers 😂😂😂

Company is fast becoming a joke in all senses.

I've bought from eBay hundreds of times, I'd say less than 1% of purchases were bad experiences. Not sure who you're buying from, eBay has a great protection policy for buyers. Facebook on the other hand... seen scams there many times.

These trade in values are closer to what the products are actually worth.

Mac Pro at $1250 when it’s like $6k new is a joke.

As far as I know, this third party that works through Apple; Apple has no say in the pricing.

$1,250 for a Mac Pro. That’s hilarious. Imagine paying $20,000 or even $50,000 for your Mac Pro and only getting $1,250.

All jokes aside, $600 for a 13 Pro Max is actually solid. Not going to lie. Wish MacBook Pro was up to $1,000+. Can’t win them all
Yeah... only getting $575 for an iMac Pro (down from $600?) is pretty awful too. I mean, that's presumably for a top-end configuration of one of those too; not the standard config most people seem to own.

The 27" 5K resolution display in one of those nearly justifies just keeping it, if that's all you're getting in trade! I've got one of them myself and it's still the best looking display in my house.

Nice try, Apple! Do you think you are going to get me to give up my valuable, and soon to be rare, iDevices with Lightning connectors? I will keep living in the Good Old Days, thank you very much!

So a fully maxed out 2021 MB Pro with AppleCare in perfect condition might get you only $720?
No. A fully maxed out 2021 MB Pro with AppleCare in perfect condition might get one only $720 if they decide to trade in their device with Apple. It’s fairly universally understood that anyone that wants more money wouldn’t be going through Apple in the first place.

Unless they have nullumaluphobia, in which case they’re forced to use the service emblazoned with the Apple logo.

It says “no change” for the iPad Pro, but for curiosity’s sake, I wanted to see if that only applied to “half-recent” models with at least 3-digit values. It apparently applies to every model: my 1st-gen, 9.7-inch iPad Pro still gets the same non-starter $45.

my 16" 2019 maxed out macbook pro (brought refurbished) keeps appreciating in value, from $560 about 6 months ago, to $670 up until yesterday, and now $730 in this latest update.

pretty amazing that a 2.3ghz 8core i9 64GB Ram and 4TB laptop commands only about 100 bucks more than a phone.

This is a spare parts / recycle trade in list. They're not selling them on, so they are fair prices.

I was talking about selling on eBay, not buying.
