Ok... if is not because Macrumors I would never knew about this replacement. Apple never sent an email.

That's what I thought: They know I post-ordered it, they sure know the serial number, they know my Apple ID which is my mail address, telephone number, home address.

But hey, it's not yet the 29th yet…

My iPhone is legible.
Perhaps they still might given that this just got announced.

----------

My friend's iPhone 5 powers off at around 30% battery, and if you plug it in, it powers right back up, with the percentage still at what it was.

And the left side of the screen has pressure issues because the battery's probably inflating.

It was purchased in FEBRUARY of 2013, so it is NOT eligible.
And it was manufactured in January, but sold in February. It says that phones sold into January are eligible. So being manufactured in January's not good enough even if it has the issue that prompted this whole replacement program?

Outrageous.
The date is more of a reference than anything else as the actual indicator of whether or not the phone falls under this is the serial number.

Had to replace my wife's launch day battery a few months ago. The Apple site showed she was ineligible... Got on the phone and got everything resolved. My refund should post to my checking account in 4 weeks.

Thanks Macrumors and Apple!

Yeah my Mom's is faulty, I'll be taking it in for her on Tuesday... it always has terrible battery life too. Why did Apple take so long to do this?

just checked mine and says it's not eligible, maybe it has something to do with the lock button replacement program that Apple initiated a while back?

I was told that when they replaced the lock button they had to replace the volume rockers/mute switch and put in a new battery.

Mine isn't eligible apparently. Shame my iPhone 5 battery life has been absolutely awful last few months.

Still take it to the apple store and show them your battery issues. Just because it says you're not eligible on the site doesn't meN you aren't eligible.

For instance with their sleep / wake button issue the website said it wasn't eligible, yet I was still able to get it fixed for free when the apple genius saw it didn't work. Additionally, the apple genius told me they also replaced the battery and the camera free of charge.

Stupid website is overloaded. My battery life has been total crap, especially the past few months. I thought 7.1 or 7.2 was the culprit. Or a rogue app. Went to bed last night with 22% of battery left, woke up with 1%. :(

Edit: Welp, not eligible.

22 to 1 overnight is "normal." I bought two at launch, a 16GB for my wife and a 32GB for me, both black and hers was noticeably worse than mine. She's a runner and would go out with the Nike app and sometimes she'd only get 5 miles on a full charge. It was so bad if she was going to be gone for any length of time, she had to plan to take a charger, so we replaced it early with an added line (giving the old to my daughter). Glad to see it on this list, because it was awful.

My 32GB is not on the list and it's had the "normal" life up until recently, but then again, it is about two years old. Battery isn't bad but I used to be able to make it home from work on a charge, now most days I need to plug up mid-day. Once in a while it seems like it goes into overdrive and it feels warm with no use and has to be charged 2-3 times in a day. Shutting down apps or rebooting the phone doesn't seem to help, so not sure what thats about. Ready for the 6.

My wife's iPhone 5 has the bad sleep wake button and is eligible for the battery replacement. Problem is the screen has a small crack around the home button. That means they won't fix it right?

This is great news. Been plagued with battery issues for about a year. Yesterday I my phone was at 91%. I shot 10 seconds of video before it turned off and only came back with the dead battery / plug in screen. I plugged the charger is, and after turning on, it showed 60%. I unplugged it, and within 30 seconds the 20% battery notification came up, followed shortly by the 10% notice. It then stayed at 5% for a couple hours.

I checked my status, and I'm eligible for replacement, but can't do it until the 29th in Canada.

Thank god!

Oh thank god! Mine is eligible. I know what I'm doing on Monday! :)

My battery life has been abysmal the last year. The phone gets down below 25% and it's a crap shoot as to when it's going to die. Maybe 25%, maybe 5%. I can at best get a day out of it. Of course I've gotten completely used to it.

Funnily enough the sleep/wake button just started acting up this week.

I'm about to replace it with an iPhone 6 but getting these fixed will help the resale value for sure.

Mine is not eligible but I got the sleep/wake button fixed when that started a while ago and i believe they replaced the battery when they did that because it doesn't shut off at higher % readings anymore. It also doesn't jump % when it's plugged in or unplugged. Before i was not able to get past 1-2pm without the phone turning off at stupid % readings. Now i have no problem worrying about the battery, thankfully!

at least good on Apple for acknowledging this and replacing what needs to be fixed. Not leaving us out to dry with no warranty and a half broken phone.

you may end up walking out with a refurb, lucky you. when the sleep/wake button replacement program started, others stated the genius just gave them a refurb as a replacement rather than sending it in for a fix. with 2 major flaws on your iPhone, i would think that would be the case. UNLESS they have zero iPhone 5's in stock for whatever reason?

is it eligible for both replacements? the screen being cracked would have nothing do to with it. she may get lucky and get a refurb instead. take it to an apple store and see what they say?

Damn you Apple!!! I just got off the phone with those pricks and they told me that I'm ***** out of luck because I performed a unauthorized repair. Hell yes I performed a unauthorized repair because I wasn't going to spend $80 on a freaking battery replacement. They won't even replace my battery with a genuine one.
Lucky for them the knock off battery works better than the original. I smell a class action lawsuit. No way in hell should I have to replace a battery after 13 months. And if my ***** catches fire I will be on the front page of MacRumors with my extra crispy iPhone. Shouldn't they replace the battery anyway since my unit is affected? They act like I took a axe to the phone when opening it up.
And for them to wait this long while people suffered with this crap . I first started noticing this issue late last year; right after the warranty ended. There had to be plenty of affected iPhones coming in for warranty repair.

Outrageous.

A bad battery maybe, but just not part of this identified issue. Not ALL phones in that period are affected by THIS identified issue.

MY phone was manufactured and purchased within the period, but not eligible (and I get pretty decent battery life).

Again, it's possible there's another bad batch of batteries that they haven't identified yet, or are still in the process of identifying. The most you can do is contact them and see what they think.

I knew something was wrong with them too! I took mine to the apple store in March and they said it had a bad cell. I paid $79.00 for the new battery. I talked to Apple and they are sending me a check in the mail!

I'm not eligible but my phone's battery is behaving wonky. At below 20% I find that sometimes it will shut down as if it went from 17% to 0% in seconds, then when I charge it a little it will report 18% again.

Yay, I'm Eligible

I have had to put up with my phone dying between 20% and 60% anymore. It may be late but better than never. I'll be able to use my phone all day now!!!

Bad battery for sure. It's funny now because a few months ago people did not believe me; called me a troll. Hope you people believe it now. From what I'm seeing the serial number range needs to be expanded.

My wife has been experiencing really poor battery life on her iPhone 5 as well. I was hoping her phone would be covered under the replacement program but, like you, it's ineligible. How frustrating.

My serial number is eligible, WHAT A SHOCK

I was in an apple store yesterday telling them I have to charge my iPhone 5 constantly as is dies very fast, sudden drops to zero at 30-40% even at 50% once. They even measured my phone having 70% capacity. Then they say pay $150 to replace battery, I told them go to hell and left

Now I'll be there tomorrow getting my free battery replacement

How can there be battery problems - people responding to the Samsung Wall Pluggers ad said that Samsung was wrong, dead wrong - iPhones have the best batteries in the business.

This is too funny.

Your reading comprehension does not seem to be the best. For simple people: only certain serial numbers are affected. Good luck with processing that information.

You guys can thank me for this one. Wife was having multiple issues with her phone including battery issues (out of warranty of course) so we bought her a 5s on the Next program and traded in her old phone. FML.
