I got a refund! I had my battery replaced at the Apple store a month ago. I was thinking about going the iFixit route, but a little voice inside my head told me to do it the Apple way. Glad I did. Thank you MacRumors for the heads up. Thank you Apple. And thank you little voice inside my head. :)

I'm eligible! That explains why my battery performance has been abysmal of late. I assumed it was the iOS 8 beta and didn't think more about it.

Quick question: Will I need to have iOS 7 before I get my appointment?

I had my battery replaced today and ios 8 wasn't an issue. The program doesn't start in the UK until next week, so I was given the choice of pay and request refund or to come back next week. So I paid and now have a new battery.

I'll request a refund next Friday when the program launches I the UK.

Done

Had my battery replaced this morning. It took about 30 min. They said they broke the front glass when taking it off so they gave me a new one. No charge. Will wait and see how the new battery holds up.

"A few faulty ones" wouldn't warrant replacement program.

No one expects to produce 150 million iPhones and have no lemons. Just like no one expects to produce 150 million lemons and have no lemon lemons.

However, when faulty units make up a real percentage of the product, it then doesn't matter if you've made 100,000 or 100 million, the problem group scales with production size.

I would have thought this was fairly obvious.

If you were to bother to read the whole conversation you would realize that I was talking about the 5s which isn't part of this program because it doesn't have the same problem.

I posted about this issue back in Feb/March 2014 that my battery was shutting down at 15-20% and it was happening to a lot of other people, there is a thread about it here on the forum. I knew this was a defective battery as it should not be shutting down without warning.

I got my phone in Nov 2012 and my battery started doing this about 15 months later. I took it to the Apple store and they hooked it up and showed it needed to be replaced but I had to pay $79.00 plus tax, she put in all my notes that phone was shutting down without warning at 15-20% but I still had to pay. Since getting the new battery it's been perfect, no issues.

Thanks MacRumors for this article.
Even though my serial # said it wasn't in the range, it also said that it showed I had my battery replaced and that I may be eligible for a refund, so I called Apple and they opened a case, I spent 30 mins and uploaded my Apple receipt showing I paid $79.00 for a new battery (thank goodness I keep receipts) I was in the range of purchasing my iPhone 5 between those dates affected so Apple said I should expect a refund in several weeks, he said I am eligible for refund.

This is why Apple customer service is rated so high, it may take them awhile but they always make good on their products. This is why I love Apple.

anyone know how long the battery replacement takes? I have an appt today with the local apple store.

will I get it back right away?

I've been very whiny about my girlfriends iPhone 5 battery that started to suck the same day she updated to iOS7. Now, everyday it shuts down at 20-30% regardless if its calibrated. And now we're getting a new free battery :D:cool::eek:

I often wonder what would happen if the rest of the company was as well run as customer service, and the excellent level of attention one gets in the stores.

They always wait as long as possible before starting recalls/replacement programs. And only in as few countries as possible. After 2 years many people have bought another device anyway. No true moral to be found here, just usual company business.

duff battery

i got a launch day unit, & after a year if i used it outside with 50% or less battery level would drop & shut off within 30 seconds, I've always thought it maybe had the temperature sensor on the outside of it which being metal shut itself down. so i'd run the screen & back vigorously to warm it up & it helped.
Hope i get a replacement as whats the point in having a smart phone when your up some remote mountain, injure yourself & whip out your phone to call SOS only fro it to go shut down !!

They ran the test for like 20 seconds, it was like faulty battery, the lady was like "Oh", I think it came back quicker than she expected, mine must have been really bad.

I'd been having the symptoms described with my battery. Based in Ireland so no apple shop to call to. However rang support, they ran diagnostics to verify battery was ok. Support guy said there was something else obviously causing the drain so sent me an exchange phone. Not bad considering phone 5 is just short of two year old and I was giving to. Y daughter next month anyway

Should I do it or not? I am slightly OCD and my Iphone qualifies but they are probably just checking the serial # for the date purchased.

The only reason why I ask as it dying at 20% or lower as only happened twice that I can remember since I had it since launch week. One well more than 2 yrs ago and last night it died at 23% after being completely off for a few days (long story), if I just use as alarm and ocassionally text I can literally get a week out of the battery.

Should I go for this just because of last night's incident or see if it is persistent before I consider? Could last night have been a fluke or?
I would totally do it. It's quick and easy and it will be better for when you want to sell or give the phone to family/friends.

A few months ago, the battery in my wife's iPhone 5 started to swell up, enough that it started lifting the glass away from the phone's sides so you could see the backlight bleeding through the gap in the side of the phone.

She also had the power button issue with her phone, but lived with it for a while because the official Apple fix for that issue is a send-away repair job. Even though she didn't buy AppleCare, the Genius didn't need any prompting to give her a free replacement.

I had to get my own iPhone 5 replaced for a glitched-out camera sensor.

We've both owned iPhones for a long time (I go back to the original 2007 model), and this is the first time either of us have had to get our phones repaired or replaced by Apple.

This is corporate spin/propaganda you've regurgitated, FYI.

Let me guess, you are either an attorney, are married to one, work in an attorney office, or...

Every class action I've ever been involved in has been a failure in that they have never delivered what they claim to rope people into the class. It's always eaten up by 'fees', and 'costs'. Also rarely, is in nearly never do the corporations involved ever have to admit they did wrong.

So, yeah, suing Apple for bad batteries, and getting a coupon for an app from the app store sure helps out those stuck with bad batteries, but the attorneys can finally get that new Bentley with the $450.00 per hour they 'billed' for. PLUS 'expenses'!

He followed a script I think.

My wife was having terrible battery problems. We took it in last week. It was purchased within the time frame but we were unaware of the program. They hooked her phone up and there was a big red block in the test screen. He asked if we ever went to the beach and said yes. He said the sun got the phone too hot on one of those outings and then said 79 dollars please.
Was he trained for that because of the program? I coughed up the money and she is very happy. Everybody's happy except my wallet.
No, I probably won't call......

I'm one of the effected iPhone users. I've had to buy an extra charger for use at my desk, so I could make it thru the day without a dead phone. Glad to find out I was eligible.

But... sadly, there's a hairline crack in my phone screen and the apple store wouldn't take it:(

The guy at the store said that removing the screen to replace the battery would cause the screen break more or all the way.

Not worth fixing the screen since I'm out of contract and the new phone will be out next month. But could of really used the battery replacement. :(
