Because mine is actually exhibiting symptoms of this problem. Besides, it is a work phone, so there is no guarantee that they will bump me up to ip6 once released.

Like I said....if it's not broke don't fix..Since yours is showing signs of problems then fix it.

I have just been on the phone to Apple regarding my repair. My phone has been on 'Diagnosing product' for 4 days now (2 of those days being weekends).

Support were very helpful, even tried to phone the repair centre to get more up to date information but was just told that there was an influx of devices at the moment with this being a new program.

The lady I spoke to could only offer to keep an eye on the repair status for me and call me with any changes. I said that was ok but I'd keep an eye on it myself. She has emailed me her direct contact details regardless.

I was told it can take 7-10 working days - so I could even be looking towards the end of next week before the repair finishes/I get my phone back.

If I'd have known that in reality it could take as long as that, I would have definitely made alternative arrangements, such as taking direct to store and getting a loaner :(

Wait till iPhone 6 is released, then grab a new/refurbished one from them - just cause it is fine doesnt mean it will be in the near future. Once you get your replacement, sell as fresh and brandnew which it is and upgrade to iPhone 6.

Interesting proposal. How long does this program last? Surely it doesn't run through the month of September, does it?

mine has been in the 'Diagnosing product" stage for 4 days also. I'm ok with the wait, as long as it's fixed. hoping for a new battery will also be a plus and worth the wait if it's done. I assume they'll connect it and run some test in which will find my battery was done.

Apple has had my phone for nearly two weeks now....much longer than the 4-6 days they told me...

It's been going on for a while...

This problem has actually been widespread since the iPhone 4. There have been a number of petitions, and a law suit regarding the issue. The button would fail almost exactly after the 1 year mark and Apple refused to do anything, baring a paid replacement. The fact that it's taken 4 generations and over 3 years to admit that this is design flaw is pathetic.

For an example, check out: https://discussions.apple.com/message/18013176#18013176

There are nearly 150,000 thousand page views...clearly some people were having this issue.

I got my phone back a few days ago and on the repair detail sheet the tech showed me I saw battery listed on the repair sheet so I'm hoping they replaced mine as my battery was really poor before sending it in and would always turn off around 40%.

mine would do the same or somewhere around 20-30%. at times going down to 1% it would stay that way for a long time of usage, plug it back in and jumps to 30% or something? just weird.

that was pretty quick. hopefully it ships out soon.

Theoretically, it should run through to end of March 2015, because Apple themselves say on their support page that: "The program covers iPhone 5 models for 2 years after the first retail sale of the unit". Since units manufactured through March 2013 are potentially eligible, looks like the first few months after iPhone 6 release will be covered.

Too bad Apple don't have a mix and match where you can drop it off at a store but then have them ship the repaired phone to your location of choice, but that's a first world problem.

Looks like Apple is shipping them from the repair centre in batches to individual stores rather than separately -- which makes sense and probably saves on delivery costs -- because UPS website is showing my phone's package to be 4.8 kilos :D
