But they don’t. They always just say “later this year.” And it is definitely not clear to the more casual users.
For any software company saying within the next four months is pretty specific. And for most users it's good enough to decide whether to go with another brand or wait and see.

"Hello, Apple Intelligence" being the new tagline for both iPhones meanwhile it is not fully ready for another half a year is actually insane for Apple.
Hopefully this is the last time Timmy pulls this nonsense.
Dude that’s his modus operandi. Seems like Tim is just not involved on new techs. He’s always reactionary. Look at every Apple product they have released, when have they ever introduced groundbreaking products to the market after Jobs? They got so caught off guard with the AI thing, like they didn’t even know it existed

AirPods?
Apple Watch?
Apple Silicon?

But sure, Tim doesn’t know what he’s doing.

I ordered the brown one and I can wait for the "AI" nonsense no problem. We'll see if they are useful or if developers can create amazing apps for it. The main thing I look forward to is camera control, something that should have been there from the start, and something that will be on ALL new phones going forward. It will be interesting to see Android's take on it.

He would have shipped the phones.
That wouldn’t surprise me.

I really do wonder how many more years past Steve’s death we have to get before people drop this tired “Steve wouldn’t do that” or “what would Steve have done” stuff. People act like Steve never made mistakes…

If Tim was as clueless as so many here say he is, Apple probably wouldn’t be worth what it is…

This timeline lends credence to the supposition that Apple probably would have preferred to bake many of these features into iOS 19 and MacOS 16, but ChatGPT’s sudden precocity and Google and Microsoft’s own haste to deploy “intelligent” features across Android and Windows appear to have thrown that timeline into a bit of disarray.
… Sir, Apple has billions of dollars, they could’ve been the first. If not for chatGPT or google, i assure you Apple’s original plan would be rolling out AI in iOS 29 not 19.

It's unconscionable that the new iPhones are shipping with the same, horrible Siri and no AI. Awful. They should have delayed them.

Imagine if Steve were still in charge....
He’s gone for over 10 years, let him rest in peace…
And if you didn’t k is, he named Tin Cook as his successor, for a good reason

Absolutely wild that there is no reason to upgrade to iPhone 16 besides the Apple intelligent features, yet it will only be fully ready around the time of iPhone 17 release.
Upgrade from what? 11? 12? 13? 14? 15?
This is just plain nonsense

They've mentioned nothing about if or how it will work with HomeKit and HomePods. Which desperately need help. What about talking to apps? I still run back to Google for most these tasks as Siri is just not up to it. Making any HomeKit investments pointless. Stick to the cheaper non HomeKit versions.

Well I do think I can benefit from upgrading my iPhone 13. I suppose I could upgrade to a 15 but I figure why not get 16 with the assortment of other minor upgrades and also at least be ready when AI stuff rolls out in a few months. Then when I get my next phone (probably the 19) it will be even better for AI and such than even the 17. I suspect many others are in a similar situation. Now if I had a 15 then, yeah, I would wait at least until the 17.

I don't consider there to be a hard relationship between the OS versions and the hardware, only some little dependencies here and there.

"Later this year", and yes.
Is visual intelligence the same thing as visual look up that iPadOS already has? The same Feature where you take a picture of some thing and it tells you what it is or what kind it is of something? If it is, I hope it is much more accurate. Yes today I was looking at my iPad picture that said I was looking at an elm tree when I know for a fact that it was Virginia creeper.

My only concern is how long it will take to have something I consider useful. As it is now, it's pathetic.

They've got my money, I want results.
I realize it's too late now, but if the value of a new phone depends on these new features being fully working then it would have been reasonable to wait until reviews showing all the features you need/want are ready.

Surely, and I edited my response to reflect sound, purchase sense.

There sure is a lot of whining about features that anyone who followed the announcements about iOS at WWDC would have already known. I am more excited about the camera features than AI tricks. At least Apple’s AI stuff will be more practical than stupid Copilot or whatever Microsoft is rebranding it to. Man, already working on their third rebranding. I just hope that Apple Intelligence is not annoyingly in my face and just silently works when they release it.
