Seems like Apple has bit off more than it can chew with Apple Intelligence. Maybe they should be pushing some of this stuff back to iOS 19?

The thing is that I have been doing everything a certain way for all these years that all these new AI work flow adjustments are not gonna be easy for me to adapt to. Habits are hard to break as a 36year old I guess 😅

It’s ok, grandpa. We know things were simpler in the olden times.

Does Siri gain any intelligence right off the bat or do we have to wait longer. Just want her to do simple commands on my phone operation, not asking her the meaning of life. . . .

If Apple Intelligence was important to me, I wouldn't buy the iPhone 16 until Apple actually releases it. I made a similar mistake when Apple released the first gen 11-inch iPad Pro and promised Photoshop and Lightroom were "coming soon". They ended up coming out only after the next iPad Pro was released. Of course, not entirely Apple's fault as those are Adobe products but nonetheless, a good reminder to not buy based on promises.

But it’s ok for every other OEM to rollout half baked garbage and charge for it?
Do you really want to include Apple with those other OEMs?
What happened to ‘insanely great’?
Has it been replaced by ‘we’re just as incompetent as the other guys’?

There was news about Germany or France release I think. Does it mean an EU release? If yes, what is blocking it, and how will it be resolved?

Siri was released in October 4, 2011. Seems like Siri is just a "hobby"🤣
A great big boon to Siri on October 4 would be very welcome birthday present for her, since she could stop being called dumb and hearing that she sucks.

thanks for posting that.

i would use slightly different labels for the various responses:

"Friendly" i would label "makes you sound like a 14 boy"
"Professional" i would label "makes you sound as if you have written it with AI"
"Concise" i would label as "call center escapee who found a position in marketing"
Outstanding. Sir please do not redeem the gift cards

This is incorrect. You do not need a US Apple ID. Language must be English(US) in Settings > Apple Intelligence and Siri, and Settings > General > Language and Region. Region does not have to be US, but does have to be a supported Region, ie not EU or China. UK region is OK.
Right, I was talking about the requirements in the EU, maybe that was the wrong context.

No E.U. release yet. Unclear if/when it will be. Apple likely needs reassurance from E.U. that the feature is compliant with the DMA. It’s unclear to me if it actually is.

I think in 2-3 years I’ll be able to make a well-reasoned decision about whether I remain with Apple or go Android for the first time (I’ve owned each one starting with my original iPhone back in ‘07 and stopping my yearly upgrade with the 13 Pro Max). I have a 15 pro for work.

My main issue is I don’t feel like the Pro phones are for me anymore. It’s videographers and people doing wild things with RAW and I question whether everyday folks use a fraction of those features or if it’s aspirational marketing. None of the features or tech I’m interested in is being put into the good phone anymore. AI is waiting-and-see because it’s changing so quickly. And I’m nonplused with the camera control button. I want to stick with Apple but they are pushing me away and seemingly not interested in customers in my position. I’m not tied to iMessage (or anything unique to the Apple ecosystem) as all my apps are cross-platform. I’d miss focus modes a little, and maybe car play but I haven’t found anything compelling in so long and it’s sad to me. The phones and OS feel stale. :(

I would just like Apple to see some basic improvements to make daily work easier. Why can I not dictate something into pages and have software figure out the obvious grammatical and spelling mistakes for me?

all of these other bells and whistles just seem like it distraction. I really wish Apple would focus more on the basics.

It absolutely was. Anything Apple doesn't think directly affects the stock price is a hobby. Wall Street has started voting with their dollars, so Apple paid attention.

OK. The EU situation seems a bit unclear to me from that link:

“For European Union residents: Apple Intelligence will not currently work if you are in the EU and if your Apple ID Country/Region is also in the EU. If traveling outside of the EU, Apple Intelligence will work when your device language and Siri language are set to a supported language.”

Does it mean either Apple ID or Region, or both? Sounds like EU residents travelling outside EU can get it if English (US) is set, even with EU AppleID/Region.

May as well keep my 15, the 16 will be a souped up 15 at launch. I will likely go for the Google Pixel next time.

From https://www.macrumors.com/2024/08/29/apple-intelligence-not-region-locked-betas/ I understood that it works geographically in the EU if you set your language to English (but your region setting doesn’t matter anymore) and use a US App Store ID (which incidentally isn’t necessarily the same as the Apple ID in Settings): “Note that […] users in the EU must still have a device signed in with a US App Store ID.”

In any case, as long as the US App Store ID requirement stands, this will only make a difference for very few EU users. And if Apple is truly worried about regulatory issues, then they can’t drop that requirement, as a EU App Store ID clearly implies that they are doing business in the EU with that device.

It's actually INSANE to me that the 16 series is quite literally being advertised as "with Apple Intelligence" but won't have the majority of features promised until the 17 is approaching and NONE of them until 18.1 drops in mid-late October. Very messy Apple...

The MacRumors article is the only place I can see that says Apple Store ID as opposed to the main Apple ID. It may be right but I can’t see that the Apple article I linked, or the 9to5 article that MR links, mention it.

Have we seen any reports from EU users who have set English (US) language and have US Apple ID? I suspect EU IP addresses are blocked regardless of Apple ID or language.

This new Apple Intelligence had better implement a better "autocorrect"! I don't want to see "duck" and other words that I don't even use that are crowd-sourced -- it's one of the most annoying buglets of iOS texting. A proper iOS AI should get to know MY use of language, typing cadence, etc.

It has also been reported here, for example: https://www.heise.de/en/news/iOS-18...ens-access-to-Apple-Intelligence-9855524.html
“you only need the US English language setting and a US App Store account.”

People have also reported it on Reddit:
