How do you explain DeepSeek? That disproved the idea that LLM AI programs were difficult or time consuming to produce.
Because if Apple intelligence was originally meant for iOS 18 then it would have launched when the iPhone 16’s were launched & not on 18.1 release

OK, but did you want those things more than you might have wanted a capable AI personal assistant?
The op originally said: “ nobody wanted image playground etc”. It’s true I never asked Apple for that type of functionality. But that doesn’t mean I find it useless like op implied.

I barely use Siri or any other digital assistant, so I really didn’t care if apple made it better or not. Granted I’m one person, but we each have our lists of things.

At least there are alternatives to use in the meantime, but I like many sure are eager to finally get a truly useful Siri.

Sure, I barely use Siri either, if at all, but that might be because most of what Apple's been promising hasn't been delivered, so there's not much there to use, and of those parts of Siri that Apple has actually released, too much of it works poorly, intermittently, or not at all. If Siri was able to do now what Apple's been promising for about 15 years, then more people would be using it, maybe me too.

But the issue is a matter of resource allocation at Apple, regarding what would make the Apple ecosystem more useful on a faster timeframe than what they've been on. Genmoji and Image Playground could have been made lesser priorities compared to better implementing Siri's core functionality, after which Genmoji and Image Playground could have been released. As it is, it seems like releasing those things first was sort of like throwing a bone to try to keep the dogs away.

I understand why image playground and genmoji were done first. Those are quick (relatively) hits that draw people in. In the same way Memoji was available with Face ID. It’s a showcase for the technology.

People here have overwhelmingly said they don’t want Apple AI on their phones. Multiple times. What’s funny is they’re now taking Apple to task for not having it fully in place when the most recent iPhones were launched.

Go figure…

I can’t think of another recent iOS update where the main feature was delayed the entire year; yet still heavily promoted in ads from launch day. Apple needs to really learn from this.
They should’ve been sued for the ads. They ran ads for the phone before absolutely any AI features were added. Absolutely none came until 18.1 at least. That’s false advertising.

Thats the Price for sleeping too long and then rushing on AI. I dont like the Update policy they are doing with iOS18. All feauters should be availlable from the beginning. Not pice for pice in every Point Update. In my opinion this all AI stuff should be pushed until iOS 19 so we could get all in One. But it is what it is.

Yes, Apple has been resting on their laurels for so long. All the people saying iOS doesn't need more than 6 GB RAM are sure quiet today.

It is shocking that Apple, one of the richest companies on the planet, can't get it together. Seriously, whats is the issue?
The issue is, getting a reliable, fully functioning, private and largely on device model is REALLY hard. The other companies that are doing this are using online LLMs that get dumped large quantities of private information to analyse.
Doing this on device, and with apples decades long and proven approach of doing it the right way, even if it’s not as ‘good’, takes time to perfect.

Don’t like it, go buy from another company!

I trust apple to do what is right. Because they have demonstrated, for decades, that this is their driving force.

Spot-on. I think many people have no idea where Apple is going with AI and the massive scope that is involved. For starters, Apple is creating an AI server factory in Texas, as just one example. While many instead believing Apple's unique version of private/secure AI should have happened in a couple of months with a few dozen software engineers working on it in Cupertino.

I know the sentiment has always been Apple is “best when late to the party” but now lately it’s become the core detriment of their business. By the time Apple gets their **** together with intelligence, something else will be taking over the tech industry that they will once again be caught with their pants down. They were too late with smart speakers, too late with VR headsets, too late with TV, too late with intelligence, and they are probably going to be too late with foldables. All their new releases these days keeps seeming to land with a muted thud. Less and less people are excited about Apple products anymore and the remaining fandom is just always left “hoping”.

It’s time Apple actually started thinking different again.
