Good to see Apple update this. But I suspect a lot of people will be hating on it.

The price point is still a jump up from the typical Dell special.

This display is glossy, correct? That alone will likely mean that most Mac Pro buyers will stick with the 23" ACD.

So I think it it aimed solely at (new) MacBook family owners (all of which now come with glossy displays, as well).

I'm terribly disappointed with all the new releases. I can't imagine why the hell would they get rid of matte displays totally for their laptops and display? This is really getting a little too ridiculous.

I would love one of these along with a new MacBook or MacBook Pro. I wanted the Air, but the lack of the glass trackpad and whatnot make the Air suddenly less appealing. I also like the black framing and glass. I would probably choose the MB for the price and weight. Problem is I have a 24" aluminum iMac so I have no real need, and my work would never spring for it. That and I have a wife who would kill me. Maybe I can score a MacBook and forget about the display I don't need. /end drool.

IMO, it was a very bad decision to not offer both DVI and DisplayPort on this screen. I think I'll stick with a regular Cinema Display, not a $899 laptop accessory.

The new screen is priced at $899 and will be available in November and requires a new MacBook, MacBook Pro or MacBook Air with the Mini DisplayPort connector. More details can be found at http://www.apple.com/displays/

It won't actually require a macbook? That would be silly - I'm sure there's an adaptor for DVI to mini displayport. A key consumer for these are Mac Pro users after all.

So can we get a dongle to adapt this cool new display and connector strategy to, say, the 3 prior generations of MacBooks too so CPU hardware still in service can take advantage of the new display options?

It's just a cable, right?

For those concerned about glossy screens, just buy a plastic sheet like for iPhone users, but in matte style and place it right over the screen. Works great.

Not too happy about the fact that this display is only for laptops.

I hope that they come out with some DVI adapters for use on the MacPros and also that the USB will make it able to use the iSight on said MacPro.

Gee, um... Thanks

Wow. Great! A new Apple 24" display. WOOT.

Oh, wait. Ummm. I spent 4k on a Mac Pro 3 months ago.. and.. hmm... ummm, it's not compatible?

Sad day when Mac is not compatible with Mac.

Total Load of Horse Sh*t.

I will keep using my lovely Samsung 24" display that I paid $400 for.

It's times like these when I think of the threads about people dropping their iphone in water and asking advice if they should try and get a replacement. So many people shout "no, it's dishonest." Well, times like these make me think "they don't care about us, so f*ck 'em"

Shame it's shorter than the 24" iMac - would have been a perfect addition but may have looked odd on a 'long' stand.

Having read previous commments, is it possible to hook this up to an iMac or would I need the adaptor that is being mentioned ?

Don't get me wrong... I want one... but $900 for a 24" monitor? You've GOT to be kidding me! Dell's, HP's, etc. cost less than half of that!

Wow, you found a way to buy a Dell 24" Ultrasharp monitor for LESS than $450 when they retail for $699 ??? Check your facts before posting.
